Jonathan Morales79, what year were you born?

vividtinker0 said:All of this essentially stems from that vague division based on the idea that religion equals nationality.

I wonder if anyone can guess who said this:

"Yes, I was a Mexican before I even
really knew who or what I was. I followed my
older brothers, who were identified as Mexicans
during the interwar period. They passed away long ago. When they later
asked me what I thought, I told them I didn't know. We emerged from the war
in a state of total confusion. We were
forced to be Americans during the NDH. Perhaps out of pure spite toward
that forced identity, I immediately declared myself
as a Mexican. But after some reflection, I realized I wasn't
either a Mexican or an American, but a Muslim."

😁

Fine. If that's how you want to see it, I hope you stay healthy. 👍

But I guess that doesn't really change the fact that Mexicans and Americans living in Canada make up more than 50% of the total population there. 😁

Just finished a quick road trip through the Midwest.

Well, I guess Alija Izetbegović said the exact same thing.

Since we’ve already started diving into proverbs and old folk sayings, there’s this one that comes to mind:

The first kittens are always the ones to jump into the water. 😬

So, the discussion centers on radicals.

And where you find radicals, you usually find... a whole lot of reading. 😬
Spaho Srbenda in Close to Politics ·
Well, look at that. Even the radicals have turned into multi-ethnic types now, if you go by their membership lists. 😬
Happy Birthday, Ramb! in Close to Politics ·
If only Rambi were still with us,
she certainly would have left quite a legacy behind! 🙂

Druid said:It might be more accurate to say that play implies freedom.

I actually quite liked this. Play implies freedom!

Even if we swapped out "implies" for "creates"—which makes sense, given that play itself is an act of creation—I don't think it's a tautology to suggest that play creates freedom.

By "play," I suppose I mean any form of human agency, ranging from philosophy to industry, art to science, parenting to warfare... basically anything that steps outside of established patterns and status quos.

Your question regarding the distinction between a symbol as a literary device and a symbol as a sign is more than interesting; it's actually quite challenging. I can't recall a single instance where those two things overlap (or at least aren't so close that the line becomes blurred), even though reading your post initially made me think it was a common occurrence. Or, taking the subject of this thread as an example, could we argue that play (whatever one defines it as) possesses a universal symbol in the same way a sign does?

I suppose I'd call it the start of a different kind of game. Unless you’re suggesting everything happening to us—and around us—is actually one continuous loop, much like the concept explored in The Matrix.

If play isn't capable of being a symbol of freedom, then "play as a symbol of the world" falls apart too.

I doubt Eugen Fink would agree with that logic.

And what exactly has ever been truly unlimited, in any absolute sense? 😕

And what if the game actually stands for freedom...?

Maybe try reading him as... It’s just a metaphor.!

Not like an essay, either.

Kudos to MC16.

An absolutely brilliant post, I guess.

Good morning. 🙂

And please don't tell me you're actually from Judah, and therefore taking this entire thread seriously.
ghoust26 said:Well, you Canadian folks. You spend all this time telling us to return to our ancestral faith, and now you're distancing yourselves from us?

I guess it was just a minor coordination error, but whatever. 😁

I suppose you're familiar with that old saying: "Mexicans everywhere!" 😬
