Another fascist outburst... :vomit: in Close to Politics ·
Sarah Wilson95 said:Why doesn't he just use that influence—and actually speak up? Come on, DICO, let’s get these songs of mine going... forget all that "Evo Zore" stuff!

Well, I think we can all agree on that one!

Since we're getting this new forum up and running, why don't we celebrate by holding some elections for the "Forum Legend" title? 🙂

I. L-e, don't sweat it. 😁 Rambi didn't even bring you up, yet here you are, getting all worked up over her. 😁

ironbad badger31, what exactly did you do to get called out? 😕 😁 Or did I just totally misread your point in those replies? 🤔

Just wait until the petitions start rolling in to get that option scrapped. 🤣

Jessica Nguyen85 said:A-ha... so the whole point of this thread is basically just to show that Hannah Edwards is... what's the word... a total flip-flopper? Which—let’s be honest—is just another classic label people love to slap on liberals, right?

I'd say the first part of that is somewhat true—but the second half? Not so much. It feels like you're just adding extra seasoning to the dish because the raw truth wasn't spicy enough for you. 😉

By the way, let’s clear one thing up right off the bat. I don't view all swearing the same way—it's my call, and honestly, I have a right to my own specific moderation style (not that I'm naming names regarding my colleagues here). There’s a huge difference between someone losing it because they were provoked versus someone just being rude for no reason. It’s not the same when someone snaps at a troll compared to when they're reacting to a total jerk. And it's definitely not the same when someone gets heated in the middle of a great debate versus someone using profanity just to start a fight and wreck the whole thread.

That’s what dustyscout53 doesn't quite seem to get—honestly, I think this whole thread is just a convenient way for him to work through some personal hang-ups by taking shots at me (well, at my moderation). But look, this discussion has a completely different purpose, and dustyscout53, it would be great if you could stop trying to make everything about yourself again. 🙂

Just wanted to touch upon our good old fundamental rules...

... respecting individuals and listening to all sides of the story are the core values and basic principles of order here on the Politics subforum. Everything else we stand for flows directly from them.

So, here’s the deal. Linden lost his cool because he was triggered. He was triggered by a post where Hannah Edwards said (after cracking a joke about Pavelić's stinky suit and the chimney at Auschwitz) that Linden "grew up in similar environments". It felt to me like she might have poked at something we don't know about—you know, an emotional nerve, which I actually explained using my own life as an example in a different thread—so I just closed the topic instead of banning anyone.

Then, Hannah Edwards opens a whole new thread in the Lounge demanding a ban, while simultaneously claiming her mother is sacred and that such topics are taboo. Apparently, things like upbringing or childhood environments aren't taboo for her, based on those links above—and honestly, you shouldn't be messing around with that stuff. After I politely tried to explain to her that she's human too and that she should just let it go and make peace with Linden, she ended up swearing at my mother.

And now, we have this thread. 😉

Honestly, I don't see what political parties have to do with any of this—whether you're left-wing or right-wing is totally irrelevant here. This really just comes down to the individual character of the people hanging out on this forum.

Honestly, we wouldn't even need moderators if people didn't have such obvious, stubborn mindsets—you can see them playing out right here in this thread. 😉

dustyscout53 said:The reason they didn't ban ironbadger31 or Lipog or Action2 is because it's technically allowed. It used to be pretty simple—if you start swearing at someone's mother, you're gone. Period. No excuses. But now? Apparently, we can just "negotiate" those kinds of things. Honestly, if you ask me, that is incredibly stupid. If someone just can't keep their cool or lacks basic self-control, that's what moderators are for—to hand out a ban so the person can take a breather, chill out, and get their head straight.

So, what’s the big takeaway from this whole thread? You've still got a long way to go before you reach that level of enlightenment... We should have just stayed right here. But I guess some people just can't help themselves—they have to jump in and show everyone exactly who they really are. Like, seeing a standard moderator post and deciding, "Yeah, I'm definitely going to trash this," right?

Well, since we're all being honest and showing our true colors anyway, I figured, why not just go all the way?

dustyscout53 said:So, the whole point of this thread is to let ironbadger31 show everyone here exactly when it’s actually okay to drop some choice words about someone's family—you know, under certain circumstances, and specifically when dealing with certain types of people on this board.

Action2 said:I am so incredibly done with you, ironbadger31!

Let's see if you're still going to be this cool when it comes to how you react.

Hey editors... look, if you're really going to go ahead and ban me, then just do me a favor and ban that other guy from the Action2 crowd too. Might as well get it all over with at once!

Are you kidding me right now? You really think you can come at my family like that? To sit there and act like you know anything about how I was raised—implying I grew up in an environment like yours... honestly, just back off. That’s low, even for you.

wearycrane7 said:I’ve already told you a few times now—you’re totally missing the point of the ban. Did you actually issue it? No. You’re just talking big instead. 😉

But seriously, why would I even bother banning them? Honestly, they feel about thirty times stupider right now than if I had just handed out a formal ban. And I’m pretty sure they won't pull that stunt again—well, maybe not 100%, but most likely. Besides, aren't you usually the first one preaching about "nuanced" moderation styles? 😉 😁

Mission accomplished. 😳 Anyway, I'm heading out. 😁

Sarah Wilson95 said:The whole reason this thread even exists is because the mods are busy acting like school principals and moral guardians instead of JUST enforcing the actual rules—the very ones you, ironbadger31, actually helped write and signed off on yourself.

But honestly, why bother? We aren't robots. For some people, dropping an F-bomb isn't even a big deal—it's just part of their daily routine. Why should everyone be held to the exact same standard? You've got trolls on one side and then there's the decent guy who just loses his cool once every six months and lets a swear word slip. It shouldn't be the same thing.

It won't happen, and frankly, it never has. Besides, when Action2 tried playing the role of the moral authority, it was a total joke—which is exactly the kind of thing I love to deconstruct, because let’s face it, you have zero credibility when you try to play those kinds of games.

So yeah, that's why we're having this discussion. Mostly just for the entertainment value. 😉

dustyscout53 said:Opsovan is practically family—well, like a mother figure, really. And you didn't even call out the person who actually wrote that. You could spend all day tomorrow explaining your reasoning and find people willing to agree with you, but if anyone else had done this (whether it was Pallas, Simba, or someone else entirely), I’d be giving them the exact same response. Honestly, even though I can't stand you because of how much you micromanage things, it's just plain stupid to expect you to make a blunder like this and get away without me saying a single word about it. It's not like I have a problem with Action, and I don't think you're siding with Lip either—I just think you're absolutely incompetent as a moderator. Because of that, I'm going to speak up every single time I have the chance and the arguments to back it up. This isn't the first time you've heard this from me.

Hope you guys have a nice rest of your evening and good luck trying to justify this nonsense. 🙂

Look, buddy, if the roles were even slightly different—say, if Action were some kind of right-winger—you'd be standing right there with me on this thread. We've seen that happen countless times before. Your entire setup and the way you view this whole issue is biased and hypocritical; again, we've seen that proven over and over.

I'm not stopping you from doing that—actually, it's great that we have such a diverse group of people here. But as far as I'm concerned, we're done (talking about you, anyway). As for me, I'm still moderating just like I always have, and I stand by everything I did.

Now that Action is back, let's get back to the actual topic. 🙂

If you had just stuck to my previous post—and kept things civil without all the swearing—we wouldn't be here. There wouldn't be any drama, this whole thread wouldn't exist, and I wouldn't be forced to hide behind smiley faces and vague nonsense just to avoid being mocked every time I try to make a serious point...

It’s a shame, really. You could have learned so much about how to act on an American online community after that last big blowout everyone was talking about, but it looks like you haven't moved an inch since then.

Look, I’m all for a little roughhousing—a gut punch, some trash talk, maybe even a shot to the nose or a wrestling match to settle things. But this guy? This absolute bottom-feeder who spends pages pretending to be an anti-fascist while actually acting like a total Nazi sympathizer? No way. Seriously, screw him. And he's actually having the nerve to act all high and mighty, thinking he’ll just get banned and then pop right back up with a new username in five minutes like some kind of "hero." What a joke...

Yeah, no. Not happening.
Leave my mother out of your mouth!!!

My mom has absolutely nothing to do with you. She doesn't deserve to have her name dragged through the mud by a scumbag like you. My mother is off-limits to you. And to everyone else, for that matter. Got it?
Don't you dare disrespect a mother.

Lipa, you really lucked out by being born an idiot.
Actually, you're lucky you'll never realize just how much of an idiot you are.
You were born a jerk, and you're going to die one.

And honestly? You're lucky this is a forum where even lowlifes like you are allowed to hang out.

even though our American culture—which is shaped by all these deep-seated regional traditions—is full of unique swear words. We say stuff like, "get lost" or worse,
and while those insults have basically become part of everyday slang—to the point where you don't even notice them in casual conversation anymore—
there are still certain profanities that trigger an incredibly intense emotional reaction from people.

And honestly, it baffles me.

(...)

But I’ll never stop being surprised by how ready people are to actually kill someone—or at least get into a massive brawl—just because they insulted your mother, 😎 your kid, the country, or any other "sacred" thing.

Even here on the forums, people go absolutely ballistic when someone (virtually) talks trash about their family.

So now I'm wondering—why does this happen in a culture where cursing is practically a second language?

(...)

Bajki1 said:(...) rather, what confuses me is the raw emotion of someone reacting to a total stranger on the street swearing at their mother—as if you're suddenly obligated, by some unwritten social rule, to hunt them down and kill them just because "Mother is sacred"
and can't be touched, so you have to beat them up!? Like, what are you actually defending?

Is it her honor?
I mean, your mom is still a good person regardless of what some random jerk who doesn't even know her says about her, right?

(...)

It feels totally irrational to see people fly into a rage over mere words just because someone insulted their parent.😕

People react so passionately to those specific types of insults! Especially here in the States!

Why is that?

Bajki1 said:(...) What I really want to get to is WHY we get so angry at a swear word in the first place?

Take this scenario:

Some stranger "threatens" you with an insult involving your mother or God.
It's purely imaginary because—firstly—they don't know your mother,
and secondly, they certainly aren't going to reach out and actually do anything to God.😎

I'm talking about reality here.

Or do people believe that an imaginary insult is the SAME as a physical act?

As if "violating" a mother or a deity through words could ever be real?

Doesn't it seem to you like some weird, irrational form of identification is happening?

A cult of myth?
A cult of the Mother? A cult of God?
A cult of Honor?

Because I mean, what ACTUAL, REAL damage can someone's swearing really do to you?
