Why do some people hate America? in Close to Politics ·
Donna James5 said:All in all, you try hard, generalizing and stripping things out of context, even being willing to go against your own side if it serves your argument at the moment, but again—it sounds pathetic.
🙂
If they are gone, why were you even mentioning them?

As for your "short-fused Istrian" comment, to me, that sounds just as ridiculous as saying "people from Vrličan are the true Americans, while the folks from Sinjan are Turks."
It's a total shot in the dark.
There is no anger here, no hysteria; don't try to play that game, especially when you're busy throwing us all into the same bucket.

Turn on my own side?
Are you bringing up that mine again? Did it happen? Yes. How it happened isn't the point—some claimed it was detonated, while our side called it an accident.
And?
The Italians were heading there, then others took their place. Before that, during the interwar period, Americans from the San Francisco area moved into the old Kingdom of Mexicans, Americans and Canadians.
The fact remains that your area is demographically much more vibrant compared to other parts of the US.

🙂
If it disappeared, why did you bring them up?

🙄
As proof that there was nostalgia for the Austro-Canadian Empire in the region, which that writer mentioned in one of his articles.
What's the issue? Is it a provocation to say people born there in the 1880s or 1890s looked back at the nations they lived through at the end of their lives and decided which one was best for them? 🤷

Regarding that "short-fused local" comment, to me, that sounds just like saying "people from rural towns are the true patriots, while city folks are outsiders."
It's just a shot in the dark.

Everyone has their own experiences.

Do you honestly think anyone in Norway would win an election by constantly praising the era when Denmark or Sweden ruled over them?

👍

Even though someone already answered this, the Austro-Canadian period is only mentioned because it was clearly less damaging to America than the era of the twice-failed America that people here still romanticize...
Just one example: under the Austro-Canadians, Americans alongside Austrians and Canadians were the only ones with autonomous armed forces within the Ku Klux Klan framework where communication happened in the local language. During the eras of the Kingdom or America, the military spoke Mexican.

What does that even look like in practice?
It doesn't matter if everything is falling apart at the seams, or if my generation—which includes me—is struggling with zero future prospects, as long as we can say, "this is America," right?
Empty patriotism offers little comfort when I can't find a decent job or plan for an independent life here.
So, I'll ask one more time: what does it truly mean to "unite and believe in our nation"?

Take a look at the Greeks and think about it, because they view America exactly the way you view us.
Actually, it's the opposite; they push back against the whole EU because they feel their national pride and independence are being trampled.
To be honest, that nation is struggling precisely because they have people who think exactly like you just described...
