Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Jeremy Peterson4 said:Exactly. In Russia, it’s all just propaganda and fairy tales.
Russia: Sanctions don't work, we're unstoppable.
Russia: Please, take the sanctions off us.
Russia: Sanctions are just an excuse for the war.

🤣

I think you missed the biggest point here.

The exchange rate is 200 rubles to a single US dollar. 😁

Biden blames Putin for inflation

Biden says 'Putin's tax on both food and gas' is to blame for record-high inflation

It seems like you can't even keep track of who put the sanctions on whom anymore. 🤣

Have you?

Don't exhaust yourself trying to sound like an expert; it’s a total mission impossible for someone like you.

Were you just this delusional for the last eight years while all the fighting was going down in Luhansk and Donetsk?
Oh right, I forgot, those are just "Asian hordes" to you—second-class victims, so it doesn't really count, I guess.☕

I should probably point out, though, that for the people who love using that phrase about "Asian hordes" (which the pro-Ukrainian crowd seems to adore), the concept of an invasion from Asia actually started on Germany's eastern border.

The threat of nuclear war is really moving along nicely.

Wait, is she the one who faked her degree?

analogbear5 said:It’s all part of the play—Putin needs those Russian media outlets to go absolutely ballistic, barking and making threats left and right. It makes him look calm and collected by comparison, like some rational leader amidst all the hysteria.

Oh, sure, because everyone here obviously speaks fluent Russian and spends all day glued to state-run propaganda outlets.😁

I guess people always jump to the conclusion that we're all just getting our news from some biased, conspiracy-theory-fueled morning tabloid or a sensationalist site like CNN.

What are the odds they actually slap sanctions on India and China because of all that Russian oil they're buying?

I mean, look, if you decide to mess with a top-tier nuclear superpower, don't act all surprised when you end up getting punched in the face. That's just how realpolitik works, I guess.

Or am I totally off base here?

Doesn't really matter.
You’ve got a traditional Russian adversary over there poking them right in the eye.

By teaming up with the Brits, Ukraine is basically turning itself into a massive long-term headache.

Ever since they left the European Union, the Brits have been leaning back into that old-school aggressive geopolitics, basically sabotaging the European Union whenever they get the chance.

Looking at those photos taken in front of the shopping mall, you can see quite a few guys decked out in dark green... I mean, it’s pretty easy to assume there might be a deployed military unit stationed nearby or something.

Now that they're officially broke, I wonder... does asset seizure follow? Like, obviously we're talking about stuff outside the country, right?

It’s probably not the first time that the Canadians have been the only ones in the European Union actually thinking clearly.
Sooner or later, everyone else is going to end up seeing things their way, I guess.

We need a truce, and we need it right now.

Jeremy Peterson4 said:Honestly, why even bother? They don't even need to be lifted. It’s the same old song and dance with Russia—they claim all these sanctions are useless, yet the second they sit down at the negotiating table, it's "okay, now can we get rid of them?"

The Russian people are basically paying the tab for their leader's ego, and they're totally fine with it. Anyone actually buying the line that they have no idea what's happening in their own country is just being incredibly naive.

The West completely miscalculated things. For all their arrogance, their actual power is pretty limited, I guess.

How successful these sanctions really are? Just look at how they have to keep dreaming up endless new rounds of them while a recession is practically knocking on the door of the European Union.

Russia heads towards default as payment deadline looms

They’re basically staring down the barrel of a 'technical' bankruptcy pretty soon.

electricsurfer47 said:Okay, let's play out a scenario where Ukraine actually gets everything back.
In my opinion, we shouldn't even think about lifting sanctions until Russia sits down and strikes a deal with Ukraine to pay for all the damages. I mean, seriously, those sanctions should stay put unless there's actual compensation involved.

Honestly, I don't see those sanctions ever being lifted, even if they somehow manage to reach a peace agreement tomorrow.

Bryan Booth82 said:Honestly, shouldn't we look at this from a more positive angle? These sanctions are designed to squeeze Putin, and back home, they’re just going to kickstart the transition away from fossil fuels that was already well underway.

The Germans have this obsession with debating everything to death beforehand just to send a message to their government—which, let's be honest, usually just comes across as endless complaining.

Companies aren't going to just shut down overnight, but they will be forced to accelerate their transformation... all while soaking up massive government subsidies, which is the ultimate goal here... just more complaining.

Best,

Replacing fossil fuels with coal and nuclear plants? Honestly, who knows what kind of "green" nonsense they'll try to push on us next. You can tell these people are just pawns, basically trained in certain political academies to follow orders.

To them, Orbán is nothing more than a distraction.

First they go ahead and slap on all these sanctions, and then they act all shocked and offended when someone actually hits back. It’s like Germany can't make up its mind—they want to play tough one minute and then totally chicken out the next:

mellowdrifter80 said:The sanctions against Russia were hammered out by all 27 EU member states and backed by essentially unanimous resolutions from the European Parliament. Does it really seem plausible that every single one of them is simply too incompetent to grasp the situation, somehow requiring us to blindly take Putin and Zakharov at their word?

It looks like

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/21/w...l-embargo.html

unknown

Some of the oil products exported by India have been shipped to the United States, United Kingdom, France and Italy

Once the refiners turn oil into diesel or gasoline, no one can distinguish whether the fuels they ship to Europe and elsewhere come from Russian crude. That means unknown

Basically, the European Union shot itself in the foot.
