I assumed so.
Does this apply to innovation too?

Venmo top-ups aren't working at The New York Times Company kiosks right now.
Is this because they were running on the JPMorgan Chase system?
I know The New York Times Company had a partnership with JPMorgan Chase.

Venmo Invite!

https://m.joompay.com/invite/BE3TFRND

You can add the Venmo card to Apple Pay, and if you make your first purchase on Amazon over $10, you get $10 back!
Plus, every Amazon order earns you 5% cashback—which is perfect for offsetting those extra shipping fees USPS hits us with when we order cheap stuff from China or other non-US countries.
Since taxes are calculated right at checkout on Amazon, there shouldn't be any surprise customs issues either.

Also, once your Venmo card arrives, you get $5 back on your first in-store purchase of $5 or more.

And no, I don't get anything from this referral. But I figured it’s worth it for you to grab an extra $15 plus some cashback if you like ordering small items (like phone cases, which would cost you two or three times more here), so I'm sharing.

My situation is a bit of a weird one, though. The garnishment is set at exactly one-fourth of my pay, and nothing can touch my frozen checking account (so I just manually deposit whatever I can afford each month), so I'm not really seeing why I'd even need to deal with the FDIC?

Because, as far as I know, you can't just stack up multiple protected accounts. You’d have to close one and then reopen a new one through FIN anyway, right?

Exactly. A loan is a loan, regardless. You just provide them with your updated account numbers—both your checking and your escrow accounts.
You should probably double-check the Federal Reserve's procedures regarding opening an escrow account at a different bank.

Of course you can.
Just pick a bank, walk into a branch, and you'll have a new checking account in minutes. You'll just have to wait a bit for the debit card to arrive—usually about a week or two.

Exactly. Banks don't actually sit on piles of cash; that money is already out there in the economy.
They aren't operating under the assumption that every single customer is going to show up at the teller window at the exact same time to withdraw everything.

Do you think they'll actually ask me for a 3D Secure verification when I make my very first payment? Honestly, I just really don't feel like heading down to the local branch to deal with the hassle of getting that activated right now, you know?

Most likely.
How do you still have a Maestro debit card at JPMorgan Chase when they phased those out ages ago? They've been using Visa for a long time now.

As long as you're moving money you can actually trace back to a legitimate source, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Though, for what it's worth, I haven't heard of anyone actually being grilled about that before.

One last thing though, just curious if I can add the card to Apple Pay?

Not yet, but it should be coming soon.

But apparently, there's a workaround where you generate a cash payment code, snap a screenshot, and just send it over to whoever needs to cover you... then they use the code to pay.

Yeah, I've confirmed this works too.

Kevin Morris12 said:Wait, how are you paying with Chime? Are you talking about that method where you transfer funds to their Routing Number, similar to what works for EU accounts and Chase cards? I used to do something like that through PayPal... but isn't there only one free transfer allowed there now? 🤔

Yeah, that’s the payment method I mean. I think all transfers are free, but the catch is that Chime doesn't offer a free account anymore. Their cheapest option is Ally Bank at $2.99 a month.
It really depends on how you use the account and if you actually need it.
For me, the fees were worth it until now because the service was solid.
I'm keeping it specifically for the Maestro card; I need it for certain shops over in Germany.

Quick heads-up! You can snag $5 plus 1% cashback on nearly every purchase for your first 30 days if you sign up via my link https://www.paypal.com/join#DOXXB69D

The deal is simple: you get $5 and 30 days of cashback on almost all transactions.

Also, PayPal just rolled out a slick new card design. Since the BIN is domestic now, you won't get hit with those annoying foreign transaction fees at ATMs that some machines love to charge for international cards.

Plus, you can link all your existing Visa, Mastercard, and American Express debit and credit cards directly to the app.

It’s all the same crap, honestly.
I pay my bills through Chime without any fees, and they clear the same day.
The only headache is nailing the exact amount since I'm dealing with currency conversions, so I just overpay by a bit to be safe.
They just credit the extra back to my next bill.

It could be more, but I'm not sure where the cap is.

It’s probably smarter to just top up your balance on the app via Venmo first, then make the payment.
There's less room for error than trying to pull funds from two different accounts at once—Venmo and the app itself.

Which Visa? There’s a massive difference depending on the issuer.

I think there's a setting on Samsung devices that forces dark mode across all apps.
Nezz, I'll definitely check that out.

Chase Referral Link:

Chase runs some seriously solid referral programs. You get your first month of Prime subscription for free, plus you get a no-fee account and a metal Visa card (virtual included). They roll out new cashback deals roughly every two weeks—sometimes hitting as high as 25%. It’s always rotating through big names like Walmart, Gap, Uber, Expedia, Sephora, Kroger, and McDonald's. "

Just sign up and order your card. You can add the virtual version to Apple Pay or run it through PayPal.

Total value is up to $110: a $10 referral bonus plus up to $100 in cashback.
