Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·

The VHS-2? Honestly, who even cares anymore—is anyone actually still using that stuff? says:
What kind of moral slap in the face is the Government dealing right now? Seriously—something weird is going down here. Erdogan is basically pointing fingers at the Government in broad daylight... and then there's this sudden prisoner swap. At this rate, I’m just waiting for Lukashenko to find some way to embarrass the Government too, so we can all just pack up our cables and head home.🙂
I'm sure Azov will be absolutely thrilled to welcome back their buddies—the ones Russia was generous enough to swap.

How many opportunists from Ukraine fled all over the globe instead of actually defending their own backyard, only to sit around whining now?
It’s almost a given that tactical nukes will be used on Ukrainian soil—but who cares, right? It’s all at a safe distance from the US. Nobody gave a damn when they dropped nukes on Japan, either. As long as these people are dying and their land is being poisoned, it doesn't matter. All that depleted uranium will just sit there, ruining their soil and water until the local population pays the price. Meanwhile, the real puppet masters of war just keep stacking up the profits. ☕

And I suppose the IRS is going to start mowing the lawns too?

Not long ago, Mil Mil was trying to hand New York City over to some developers who pulled the exact same stunt in Mexico City—just leaving a massive mess behind. If he’d actually managed to hand the keys to his buddies from the Gulf, we would’ve seen money flooding in from everywhere with zero oversight. Just like always. And you can bet that would have sent NYC housing prices through the roof.

Are we actually going to see a superior, updated zoning plan? It remains to be seen. Just three days ago, Nikša Božić stepped into his role, bringing a wealth of expertise in urban planning to the table.

An investor who plays by the rules, respects every requirement, and voluntarily sets aside portions of their land for public parks or community spaces is what I would call a quality developer. A competent local government recognizes that value and rewards it accordingly.

But right now, we are stuck with an incompetent clique that can't even count floors or grasp the fundamentals of a city's master plan. If this continues, the era of predatory development will only intensify.

That’s certainly not why I cast my vote.

And will the city even check if these developers actually paid taxes on the money they're using for construction? Or are they just pulling untraceable cash out of a suitcase? Ensuring only clean, legal money enters the market is huge—it's what would actually bring down apartment prices in New York City.

lazy boy...

Covo is basically like Professor Balthazar from the cartoons—he spends forever thinking and thinking, then finally comes up with something and announces it with such pride.
Then you look at American life, where people spout terrible, heavy accusations every single day and nobody bats an eye.
Take sports—when the national soccer team or some big club plays, you'll have an entire stadium screaming death threats and absolutely nothing happens.
Insults, threats, and straight-up crudeness have just become part of the standard scenery in American public life.

Sure, we can't have a composting site or a waste incinerator—but apparently, handing out construction permits right next to the thermal plant chimney in Jankomir or those residential blocks by Dom Sportova is totally fine.
Our local plants don't even bother with proper flue gas filters, so all those combustion particles just drift over the entire city.
If the city actually insisted on installing filters in these facilities, having an incinerator anywhere in town wouldn't be such a massive issue, would it?

Emily Smith6 said:“We’re earmarking $50 million for preschools over the next two years. Meanwhile, just one year of the parent-as-caregiver program costs even more.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated on Monday that NYC intends to build 13 new preschools and expand eight existing ones over the next two years, an undertaking that will require roughly $50 million.

To achieve this, the city has submitted 21 projects totaling $70 million to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for funding. ”The plan involves constructing 13 new facilities and upgrading eight others. However, we can only pull about 25 percent from European Union funds—so, less than $18 million—meaning the rest has to come straight out of the city budget,” he noted.

If New York City actually wants to increase preschool capacity, I suppose it can't simultaneously be shelling out $65 million for the parent-as-caregiver initiative.

Ahead of tomorrow's City Council session, Adams also announced the formation of a new commercial entity, Sunroof Inc., which will focus on installing solar arrays on public buildings. ”

Bravo, things are finally starting to change.

That’s how you run a city. A lot more people benefit from a handful of new daycares (assuming they cost $30 million each) than from a tiny circle of Milton Berle's parasites.
If we need to organize a protest against these caregiver policies, I'm in—people will see there are way more citizens against this kind of reckless spending.

Word on the street is they’re replacing the damaged water mains with those ancient steel pipes—you know, the ones filled with concrete.
Does everything seriously have to be designed by retirees who haven't even looked at modern materials in decades?
We need to hire an actual engineering firm that’ll pitch a project using cutting-edge polymer pipes and fittings—stuff that doesn't corrode and uses high-tech connections instead of old-school welding. When you're overhauling New York City's water grid, you should be using state-of-the-art tech, not relying on designs from the Stone Age just because the people drafting them are 80 years old and working out of pure habit.

Noah Perez5 said:I think the sheer extent of this shamelessness is highlighted by the fact that local elections—specifically those for municipal and county governments—really have nothing to do with the government covid stimulus issued by the US Federal Government.

I imagine someone might actually end up voting for the current mayor of a small town like Glina based on this stimulus money, even though there isn't any actual connection there.

It's really just basic political structure.

They truly seem to think we are fools.

People will vote for him simply because they're terrified for their own lives—and their families' lives—no matter how broke they might be.

The forests here look more like the Amazon.
Hundreds of semi-trucks haul stuff through America or across the border, and neither the police nor customs seem to give a damn.
Foreigners are basically picking us clean under the guise of "renewable energy"—they get to dump their wind farms on us for next to nothing, and now we're stuck paying for them like they’re made of solid gold.
The Republican Party paved the way for this, with the Democratic Party playing a small part since they weren't in power for long.

For years, they've been aggressively logging areas populated by displaced Mexicans and Americans—places that actually need social support. Even state forests aren't safe.
Now, someone in the European Union finally lost their patience and decided to call out America.

There isn't just one worst spot. They're logging everywhere—cutting it down and hauling it off.
When asked where the damage is most severe, this enthusiast basically says, "There is no 'worst.' Everything is a disaster. I could drive you to the Appalachian Mountains, Petrov Gora, Papuk, Bilogora, Zumberak, the Sierra Nevada, Glina, or Petrinja—anywhere you want. It's happening everywhere. And all our legal entities are forced to pay these mandatory fees for forest protection and restoration. The national forest service has 17 different branches scattered across the country, and we have access to all their documentation thanks to whistleblowers—people on the inside who simply can't stand to watch this crime anymore."

The attached text is a wild read—perfect for a quote—and the push to expose this criminal racket was started by a veterans' association.

I guess we’ll eventually find out which year they're actually aiming for...

PPD would never be able to pull off what they do if the octopus hadn't cleared the way.
Everything is coming full circle now.

Jose Collins86 said:This transition occurred long ago. For years, the media has merely echoed the rhetoric of the ruling class; blacklists exist containing names of individuals forbidden from appearing in mainstream outlets; journalists and editors hold clandestine meetings with the President and the Governor to negotiate financial arrangements (bribery); fundamental democratic rights, such as referendums, have been abolished; laws are passed that eighty percent of Americans oppose—laws that the Republican Party never even included in their campaign platforms (a blatant deception of the electorate); they form coalitions with parties that are formally their polar opposites (the Independent Party, the Democratic Party)—another betrayal of the voters; and finally, the Supreme Court acts in direct opposition to the Constitution and the citizens, remaining entirely under the thumb of The Administration.

In short, the dictatorship is already here; it has merely arrived quietly, dressed in an expensive suit, wearing fine European spectacles, perfectly groomed, polyglot, and shielded by a media that insists we are actually paragons of democracy, warning us to beware of those "populists" or "fascists" who might supposedly dismantle this perfect system. It is black and white. Slavery is freedom. Ignorance is power.

Just more disciples of Soros. They all follow the exact same script. And Vucic? He's playing the same game.

Nothing ever actually gets decided here at home. From the outside, they completely overhauled our entire social order—installing all these hand-picked puppets to dictate how we live. They marched in and ordered the dismantling of our domestic industry, the privatization of our banks, joining NATO, and the whole nine yards. They’re just sitting back watching the fabric of this society unravel while they strip the last few resources bare. All they really gained was a massive pool of cheap, disposable labor—but around here, there's neither the work nor the places left to do it.
The real question is what they shook hands on once everything was truly gutted.

There’s no turning back this time.
It’s just pure chaos.
Knowing the people running tourism along the coast—I can't even imagine what they'll do once the summer crowds vanish.
Then you've got those big-shot corporate elites in Washington, D.C.—a massive crew, sure, but they're handpicked. Once the perks and government paychecks dry up? Every single person working for state agencies, public firms, retirees, veterans... when the system actually starts cracking, the President will probably just bolt for Belgium.
The only silver lining is hoping our allies pulling the strings globally might give us another shot at building an honest, self-sustaining nation—since this version under Franjo Harmon clearly isn't cutting it. Or maybe they'll just decide we aren't worth the trouble and carve us up between the neighboring superpowers. Honestly, it'll likely happen to all the former states from the old America era; they're all facing the exact same mess.

So, I'm hunting for a mouse for my mom—she's got larger hands and some swelling in her fingers, so she needs something beefier and less complicated. Does anything like that actually exist 🙂?

Over in the Elm Street area—specifically in the courtyard at the Maxx Fashion center—there are these two shops right next to each other. One’s pretty casual, the other’s more upscale... it's basically what you hit if you're walking down the street past the Bank of America on the left side.

Then there's that Lady XXL place over in the Heights—you know, if you're heading from the market toward the Chase building, it's on the right just past the Bank of America (which, honestly, is my only landmark🙂). I'm just not a huge fan of their styles... plus, everything is cut short, so if you're actually tall, you have to order online.

Personally, I'm a pretty big girl—size 20 in US terms—so I usually stick to Marks & Spencer, though I did manage to find some jeans at Dorothy Perkins in the mall (they carry up to a size 20 there).

Finding clothes in larger sizes that actually look decent without breaking the bank isn't really the issue out here...

Though, learning how to sew definitely helps.🙂

When I'm in the city, I usually hit up Marks & Spencer for tees—though you can find larger sizes at Nam—especially if you look through the Liscine collection. I also picked up some long-sleeved shirts at Amadeus last fall; who knows if they’ve switched to summer stock in bigger sizes yet? Just grabbed a few XXL shirts from Ledy over on Tratinska today, $50 they're actually pretty great...
Plus, whenever I'm traveling abroad, I make sure to hunt for deals. Like the girls mentioned, C&A, H&M, and Ulla Popken are solid finds in Austria. Just a heads-up though... if you're shopping at Ulla Popken, grab one size smaller than usual 🙂
