Rachel Barrett8 said:I don't see it as a timeline issue at all. For me, the real problem is subsidizing private corporations, but generally speaking, not just with Musk.

We shouldn't be doing this, but everyone in the European Union does it.
It's just like handing out subsidies so someone can buy some overpriced electric piece of junk.
Or paying someone to clear-cut a forest just so they can run an AC unit.
And so on.

There’s just no end to the wasting of taxpayer money.

Look, capital is invested in private companies so they create jobs and bolster the tax base—that’s standard practice everywhere. I'm not against subsidies, provided there's transparency and actual rules in place.
Those new employees pay income tax, which then funds infrastructure and raises the standard of living. That's a different story from what we see here, where money just vanishes into the pockets of political cronies...

Rachel Barrett8 said:Every single person using European Union funds is facing delays or setbacks because of COVID-19. We all have extensions to deal with; Musk isn't some special case here.

It's funny how much the Russian Federation and people like you care when Musk gets $7 million from the European Union, yet it’s perfectly fine when massive shipyards swallow up $600 million from the federal budget... then suddenly it's okay.

Excuse me... if I’m reading the news correctly... the first extension was set for June 30, 2021, which passed. Fine, things fell apart because of all the chaos. But it looks like the request to extend until June 30, 2022, wasn't even filed until July 22. What happened between June 30 and July 22? And right in the middle of that gap, there's Ursula (on July 8) making her little appearance. At the exact moment the deadline hit, nobody knew anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my issue is strictly with the timeline. It's not about the extensions themselves. Extensions have been granted for much stupider reasons than pandemic-related delays.

Rachel Barrett8 said:Musk isn't some shady nonprofit or a group for lazy veterans just looking for a handout.

He's an automaker. He's actually out there making money.

Musk was way too late filing his extension... And just as his project gets stuck in the same bureaucratic nightmare that blocks everyone else using European Union funds, suddenly Ursula decides to pay him a visit. And nobody bats an eye. Who do you think gave her the nudge? Maybe she just felt like it on a Sunday... Someone had to point her in the right direction. Which brings us back to the joke that is Musk and his old dealings with the Republican Party during those dark days. (Not to mention the cash used to kickstart Vern’s unfinished studies). But hey, I shouldn't even think it, let alone say it! Otherwise, I’m just some jealous amateur, right?...

I honestly don't get why Đakić was forced to sit out the election for the county Republican Party chair. If the party pressured him into stepping down, then why on earth let him remain the head of Hvidra? It’s not like they have any real control there anyway... The mere fact that he’s still running Hvidra means his spot on the 2024 Congressional ticket is basically guaranteed. So what's the point of all this maneuvering? They haven't even cleaned house at the county level: Kiro is still calling the shots, nobody knows what's happening with Palma, and all of Rokso's people are still holding their positions. I just don't see the logic here...

Kyle Nelson2 said:The Republican Party isn't winning elections because they’re actually doing a good job... it’s just that the Democratic Party is such a disaster.

And honestly, this court ruling? It’s not going to change a single thing.

The Republican Party wins because half the voters stay home on election day. That gives them a free pass to screw everyone over for the next four years...

I’m still waiting to see if anyone actually has a point here... because right now, it feels like we're just circling the drain. Everyone is shouting, but nobody is saying anything worth hearing. It's exhausting... kaže:
The people I know wouldn't vote for the Republican Party even if their lives depended on it... ☕
I don't actually know the people I was talking about personally. I only know their mother. She used to work with us. Every single time the Republican Party isn't in power, I hear all these terrifying warnings about imminent danger... If her kids aren't lying, they're thinking along the exact same lines.
Look, I don't think the overseas voters are the issue here. It’s just three votes... nothing moves the needle. The real problem is voter apathy. Those people would be the easiest ones to get logged in and voting online. Now, just imagine what the election results would look like if we actually had a 30 percent increase in turnout. Out of that extra 30 percent, you wouldn't get even a 0.3 percent share for the Republican Party. In the US, we have hundreds of congressional seats at stake, whereas those overseas districts only account for a tiny handful of votes...
In that scenario, even the Republican Party wouldn't walk away as the winner...

If the folks over in Ireland don't have a local Republican Party branch there, how does it work? Could they end up messing up the diaspora vote, or if they’re registered locally, could they throw off the results for the local candidates here at home?
Do you guys realize the kind of chaos 100,000 votes like that could cause?

You’re mixing apples and oranges. Young families working abroad in Ireland, Sweden, Germany, or Canada are loyal Republican Party voters. Why shouldn't their kids carry on the proud tradition of their parents? Besides, they aren't blaming the Republican Party for having to move to wealthy parts of Europe. I know parents personally—with two out of three kids living in Germany—and I can tell you, much to my dismay, they don't blame the party for anything. In their minds, it's all just God's will. On top of that, they actually believe America would come back if people stopped voting for the Republican Party.

Peter Sanders4 said:offtopic apology

Using Vote.org would boost turnout. Period. You’re worried about security because you don't grasp the technical side, but I’m telling you, it can be done securely.

If I had the option to vote online, my participation wouldn't hover around 50%; it would likely hit 100%. Apply that logic to the rest of the country.

They just don't want you showing up to the polls... It's a risk they aren't willing to take...

Emily Smith6 said:Meryl Streep: It’s not like George W. Bush was stealing money as a hobby; he was doing it while he was running the country

Kudos to Maja Sever! Is there actually a single other journalist at the public broadcaster who looks at the Republican Party objectively? Thank God she’s the union head, because if she weren't, she’d be getting pushed out by the ones currently cozying up to Republican Party bosses on party buses...

p.s. It would be nice if the reporters at the Associated Press took a few lessons from someone like the BBC—an institution that actually strikes fear into the hearts of politicians everywhere...

Peter Sanders4 said:An apology is essentially an admission of guilt, which inevitably leads to bad press. I see why they made that call. It was the right move.

Not really. Everyone who votes for the Republican Party is going to keep voting for them regardless. You could convict them for the most heinous crimes in the Penal Code and it wouldn't matter. It's just like any other cult—the followers stick by their leader even when he's accused of the most depraved things imaginable. An apology gives them everything to gain and nothing to lose. Especially since the guy they love a leader was technically just a high-ranking official, not even a formal party member during the whole mess. He was "just" a Under Secretary... basically second tier...

I’m struggling to wrap my head around one little thing here... What excuses are the Republicans actually using to dodge an apology? I must have missed it entirely. And honestly, even Joe Biden doesn't have the right to stay silent—even if he wasn't a member of the Republican Party back then—because he was right there in the inner circle alongside the cabinet members.
If they truly believe an apology isn't necessary, then fine—let them just hand back every single piece of real estate owned by the Republican Party, since they seem to be disowning them in practice. I can only imagine the total cognitive dissonance happening in those Republican heads: on one hand, you have Ronald Reagan and the glory days of the nineties; on the other, everything supposedly went south once Joe Biden took charge, perhaps starting at that Democratic Party convention where Joe Biden spoke about the party being held hostage by one man.

Would Tom Emmer, acting as the Mayor of Des Moines, ever dream of hiring someone with a criminal record to handle any kind of business operations within the city limits?

Don't hold your breath... if he hadn't been on the Republican Party ticket, Tom Emmer would be looking at US Congress as nothing more than a postcard. Everything else is irrelevant. When you have a boss, you bow down and shake his hand. You don't dare step out of line...
It's a good thing George Patton isn't around to see this.

big news, Edward Lee7,

anyway, where’s Kamala Harris over at CNN? she’s really the only one with the guts to push the Leader's buttons,

☕

The Republican Party wouldn't have tolerated that kind of confrontation yesterday... is it possible they've lost their edge?

Rachel Barrett8 said:What I was told was that the bags were filled with old collections of erotica.😁

I got paid $1,100 to deliver them to someone at a local corporation, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me at the time.

Nobody tells me anything. I honestly thought I was doing some good work, helping out those housewives who needed to catch up on their reading... then my buddy tells me that for fifty bucks, he walked away with a bottle of Jack Daniel's and three issues of Alan Ford. 🤣

Rachel Barrett8 said:I don't see why we're jumping to conclusions about people who haven't actually done anything wrong.

I mean, hasn't every single one of us, at least once in our lives, carried a bag full of cash without even realizing what was inside?😁

Since nobody bothered to tell me... I just assumed I was carrying around the collected works of Janko Matko in a soft binding! 😵😵😵

crimsonwolf26 said:I really think it’s time for an American version of "manapuliti." Honestly, all the ingredients seem to be there right now. We need to see the current political establishment—the same structures that have had a stranglehold on the system for the last thirty years—completely collapse so we can actually try to build something from scratch. My only hope is that this time, we don't end up with an American Berlusconi.🙂

What a load of nonsense... Did you even listen to the Great Leader yesterday? There isn't a single dirty hand in the Republican Party; they've always been squeaky clean. Well, except for Ivo Sanders's lot, but he's already behind bars. So yeah, America really is a phenomenal place to live...

If Americans just swallow these excuses that Branko di keeps parroting using Bačić's cash, then we might as well scrap our status as a nation because what’s the point! They were completely clueless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If they knew absolutely nothing, then they should be stripped of their right to conduct business!
Is he forbidden from saying anything more than what the Great Leader said yesterday, or is he just incapable of forming an original thought?
While he was working alongside Sanders, did he ever suspect a thing? Krešić asks. Bačić doesn't answer. He just repeats that he already covered that part...
This is disgraceful.
Look at how Bačić stumbles... hahahahahaha He had zero information regarding the Verona scandal, even though every single newspaper was covering it
And the kicker: he claims the Republican Party wasn't declared a criminal organization by court order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were simply blowing through money that their president and his little gang stole. And who were they stealing it for, if all that cash was ending up in the Republican Party's coffers?

Exactly! That’s definitely the headline of the week. Because clearly, everyone else is just exactly the same, and I simply can't have that. We already have confirmation that the Republican Party is nothing but a criminal enterprise. As for the rest? They should be kept on a very short leash...

Noah Perez5 said:Is there even any connection left between today's Republican Party and the one back in 2007?

I mean, just think about how many people who used to vote for that kleptomaniac Dad are now casting their ballots for Plenković.

It’s probably a massive number, I suppose.

The same folks who were out there campaigning for Dad are now backing Plenković.

I guess you could say the Republican Party crowd lacks sincerity, if not with others, then certainly with themselves.

As for Bačić, he isn't really relevant to anything, but honestly, you have to be incredibly shameless to even try and weigh in on this topic.

Bačić served as a state secretary, then became the Republican Party's chief of staff, plotting with Kosorica over funds that supposedly didn't exist on paper.
Joe Biden was a state secretary, even if he wasn't an official party member.
Mike Johnson used to be a minister and sat on the Republican National Committee (he seems like the weakest link in this whole saga to me).
Đakić was a member of Congress.
Marić was a state secretary, despite being outside the party.
Bošnjaković held a state secretary position.
Obulja Koržinek worked as an assistant minister.
Borić was an assistant minister...
And now... they’re all claiming they had no idea what was happening. If they truly were in the dark, then we have a massive problem...

If this had gone down in any established democracy, there would be an absolute uproar. But here? The wolves just eat the sheep without a second thought...
