Unpleasant menstrual odor in Women's Health ·
It honestly depends on the specific brand you're using. Personally, I find Always pads a bit of a headache because they feel way too plastic-heavy, whereas I much prefer Libresse or those Virginia 80 mesh ones.

Elizabeth Davis said:I don't think that's quite right. The article starts by saying the pimples are painful, huge, and located near the anus, and that they're linked to hair growth... I stopped reading there because I just couldn't relate to that description at all.😬

For me, it’s all basically the same thing—just whether the pimples are big or small.😬

The author suggests exfoliating two to three times a week (ideally in the shower when the skin is soft), followed by using witch hazel and aloe vera gel, then switching to cotton underwear and staying away from oily lotions and soaps, and so on.

Gregory Mitchell90 said:Well, I guess I’m officially joining the "painful periods club!"
It usually starts right in the middle of my cycle—though not every single time since my ovulation isn't exactly predictable—and the pain lingers for a few days before finally letting up. Then, the nightmare repeats the morning before my period actually hits. Once it arrives, I’m basically glued to painkillers for the first three days, even though they barely touch the pain. On day one, I’m knocking back about seven pills, then five on the second day, and maybe two on the third. My gynecologist actually suggested this specific routine because I can only really tolerate Lupocet; nothing else seems to work for me, and even that just takes the edge off a little. For those first two days, I’m completely out of commission and can't even make it to school. The flow is intense—lots of heavy clotting—and I get these sharp pains in my right ovary and cramps so bad that sitting down is impossible. I just have to lie flat, and sometimes I even run a fever.

Does anyone know of any exercises that actually help ease the cramps and pain? I feel like I’ve tried everything under the sun. When I went in for my high school entrance physical, the doctors actually suggested hormone therapy to try and regulate my cycle (since it's all over the place—sometimes I get it every 2-3 weeks, other times it's been 50 days), but they warned me there was a risk it could affect my ability to have kids later on or trigger other health issues.

Those would be pelvic floor strengthening exercises; they work by relaxing all the muscles "down there." For example:

There is also a yoga routine available:

Yeah, standard pharmacies (Walgreens usually carries it) and health food stores (like Whole Foods).

The hemp tincture is manufactured by Suban; they call it Evine drops.

I suspect the stress has completely thrown my system out of whack; now I’m dealing with these sudden hot flashes in the morning, intense pains, and even mid-cycle cramping—likely ovulation, I suppose. Just the day before yesterday, right before my period actually started, I felt so nauseous on the subway that I genuinely thought I was about to die... it’s honestly never been this bad. Fortunately, some pills help, though I try not to rely on them too heavily—maybe just two or three during those first three days at night. Since I'm still a student, I'm lucky enough to avoid a rigid work schedule, which usually means I can dodge heavy lifting or having to leave the house when I'm feeling like death. I used to take Advil—it’s number one in my book—but the relief doesn't last very long, maybe just a few hours. Still, it works incredibly fast; within ten minutes, I start to feel some easing of the pain, which is vital on those once-a-year occasions where the agony is so sharp I feel like screaming. However, it started making me feel a bit queasy, so lately I’ve switched to Neofen or Knavon. Interestingly, Voltaren hasn't worked for me at all—it's far too slow to kick in, so it’s just not worth the hassle.
I’ve considered whether hormonal contraception might be a real solution—my OB-GYN certainly suggested it—but I’ve personally declined to go that route... then again, perhaps there are herbal remedies? A close friend of mine practically underwent a total transformation after she started drinking this specific tea designed for women's health; before that, she could barely crawl out of bed, though she did find birth control left her feeling just as exhausted and drained, so she quit that too. I tried starting that same tea, but I have such a low tolerance for herbal brews—they always make me feel sick to my stomach. Since you have to drink it three times a day, I eventually gave up... For me, it isn't even the physical pain that's the worst part, but rather this strange, pervasive weakness, those sudden waves of heat, and the sheer inability to function like a normal human being...🙂 But what can you do? It is what it is...

Have you tried any drops, like hemp tincture, or maybe evening primrose oil in capsules? Those two seem to get the most praise on the forums.
For me, the tincture helped quite a bit.
Dyslexia Survey in Health ·
Amanda Jackson6 said:Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on my senior thesis regarding typography adaptation and font design specifically for people living with dyslexia. To gather data, I put together a survey intended for both individuals with dyslexia and those without it.

Right now, I’ve seen a decent response from people without dyslexia, but the turnout from those actually dealing with dyslexia has been pretty low. I would be incredibly grateful if you could take a moment to fill out this SURVEY. If you have dyslexia, your input is especially vital, though honestly, anyone is welcome to participate!

If I may be so bold as to ask for a favor, if you know someone who struggles with dyslexia and wouldn't mind helping, please consider passing this link along to them. If not, no worries at all. 😉

Thanks!

Hi there!

I actually have dyslexia myself, though I was never officially diagnosed. About a year ago, I went to the Mayo Clinic to get evaluated. I've never undergone formal therapy, so I've just had to figure out how to manage it on my own over the years (I'm 35 now).

Would you like me to fill out the survey, or are you looking specifically for people who received an official diagnosis back when they were in school?

Best, 🙂

Ear discharge: What should I do? in Health ·
I dealt with similar issues when I was younger, though I never actually suffered from infections. For me, the culprit is always the pillow—specifically the filling. Feathers just irritate me too much, so I have to stick to synthetic fills.

I'm facing some minor struggles again now, but I suspect it’s the pillow acting up, specifically my contoured one from Tempur-Sealy. 🙂

And whatever you do, stay away from nasal sprays; they really just make things worse in the long run.

Have you had a chance to see an ENT yet?

At least you don't have to shove it up your butt. 😬

Just be careful with those weights. If they slip, they'll definitely crush your toes. 🤣

Don't get too frustrated with yourself. It’s completely normal to accidentally squeeze other muscles; those exercises are incredibly tough when you're just starting out.

Do you think a device like this might be more helpful?

Kegel exercises / Kegel muscles in Women's Health ·
I gave up on Kegel's exercises pretty quickly because I just couldn't manage to fully empty my bladder. The only real benefit I got was being able to better locate where my pelvic muscles actually are.

If you can feel those muscles and are able to contract them, you might try strengthening them through incidental movement so you don't have to set aside dedicated time for workouts—especially if you have kids running around:

1. While walking: My physical therapist suggested that while I'm walking, I should squeeze the muscles for three steps, then relax for the next three, then squeeze again for three steps, and so on.

2. On stairs: Squeeze the muscles as hard as you can while taking a few steps up the stairs. It’s recommended to stand on the balls of your feet rather than your whole foot. You could also do this on a stepper machine at the gym.

3. While driving (specifically when you press down on the gas or the brake).

4. While listening to music: Just contract the muscles in rhythm with whatever song is playing.

5. While cycling: Every time you push down on the pedal, squeeze your pelvic muscles.

6. When standing up from a chair, out of a car, or similar movements.
Chest breakouts and skin irritation: Any advice? in Women's Health ·
Hi there!

Your post is a bit dated, but I still wanted to share my own experience.

I deal with pretty problematic skin issues on my face, chest, and décolletage. One time, I actually tried to squeeze one of those breakouts, and a red patch appeared right where I touched it, which then slowly started spreading. It got serious enough that they performed a biopsy and sent the sample off for testing. In the end, it wasn't anything life-threatening; it turned out to be pseudolymphoma, what doctors call a "false tumor" of the skin.

My dermatologist explained that my case was essentially an allergic reaction to metals in my environment, specifically things like nickel and chromium.

mellowfox56 said:If you're running a small business, say you issue an invoice dated November 30th, and that’s your only one for the period, you’d pay the sales tax by December 31st. You just file your return with the IRS—you can grab the forms at Staples or Best Buy if you want to go old school. So, if your service is $2,000.00, then adding 23% tax means another $460.00, bringing your total invoice to $820.
Yeah, you only deal with this if you've actually registered for sales tax collection, and honestly, I don't see why you'd bother doing that right out of the gate.
That said, your best bet is to sit down with a CPA. It's hard for me to give you a full breakdown without knowing more about your specific setup, but hopefully, that gives you a starting point.

Thanks for the response, but I'm not dealing with sales tax here—it's my income tax that's the issue.

Hi everyone!

I have a question, though I hope it doesn't sound too naive.

I’m currently employed at a company, but I also run my own freelance translation business as an independent contractor. I’m responsible for my own income tax. This month, I’m finally supposed to issue my very first invoice.

The part that’s stressing me out is how the tax calculation and payment actually work. Is it handled through a specific form, a standard check, or just a direct transfer to a specific account?

Help a beginner out. 😬
