Independence Day and Anti-Fascist Struggle Day in Close to Politics ·
bluecyclist64 said:The reality is that the civil war actually kicked off on April 10th, when a certain faction of the population began systematically targeting anyone who didn't fit their specific ideology or genetic profile.
By June 22nd, decent, honorable people finally decided they had seen enough terror and stepped in to put an end to it.

Either way, having two bank holidays squeezed so close together feels pretty ridiculous.

The civil war didn't start in April, it started on June 22nd, and honestly, this whole mess is just a massive failure by our politicians! For us Americans, it probably would have been better if none of these dates even existed. You had decent folks fighting on both sides, whether they were in the Nazi Germany ranks or joining the guerrillas of the Communist Party! We’re still paying the price for how America was built, and we’ll be feeling the fallout from its collapse for at least another 40 years until the last defenders of the Republic of America pass away.

If you ask me, we should just scrap these two holidays entirely and stick to celebrating the Founding Day of the National Guard, January 15th, and August 5th, the Day of Homeland Gratitude!

What we should really be celebrating are our own decisions, which eventually led to that recognition.
We were already an independent nation before anyone else acknowledged it. We should celebrate the day we actually declared our independence. Whether that's June 25th or October 8th is something for the historians to argue about.

Our moves back then didn't exactly follow the rules of the old republic or the laws of the global community! If you ask me, Independence Day should be January 15th. That was when the late president, Franjo Harmon, stepped up as the leader of the Republic of America. Once that happened, you finally get actual standing at the UN and can actually communicate with other nations as a legitimate state!

To take this a step further; when exactly is the national day for Palestine?

Look, I think people are missing the point here—April 10, 1941, didn't mean a thing once the war ended! And June 25th? Nobody in the world actually recognized us then; instead, all the big global players just sat back and let the US Armed Forces and Americans try to crush us! It wasn't until January 15th that we were finally recognized as a country. They gave us that recognition while the fighting was still going on and used the UN to make sure America kept its borders after 1945!
June 25th doesn't carry any weight, and neither does April 10, unless you actually win the war and get international recognition!

We have our own American Civil War and our own heroes. Why should we care who fought on which side during WW2, the Napoleonic Wars, or the conflicts between the Persians and the Greeks?

I'm being dead serious. During WW2, we had Americans fighting for disgusting Nazis and Americans fighting for an America I couldn't care less about.

Both outcomes were terrible for us. There’s nothing to celebrate here; just show respect to all the innocent victims.

The whole foundation for the American Civil War was actually the formation of the National Guard! Instead of celebrating that, we end up celebrating the setup of partisan units organized by the Communist Party, which operated throughout what used to be the failed Kingdom of America and Nazi Germany!

I'm right there with you on honoring the victims! We need to show that respect for everyone, from Auschwitz to Wounded Knee, all on the same day.

velvetmaker3 said:There’s really no reason to celebrate June 22nd. I mean, why should the entire country be celebrating an uprising started by some 70 Communists just because they were attacked by a big brother figure?

June 25th would be more appropriate, and so would October 8th, since that was when Congress passed the decision following the referendum—basically honoring the will of the vast majority of the population in the United States.

If we had seen a peaceful breakup right after June 25th, things would have been totally different! If you look at June 25th versus April 10th and the declaration of the Independent State of America, there's a huge gap. Once the Independent State of America was proclaimed, it actually got international recognition! But nothing happened after June 25th; nobody recognized us back then. We only got that recognition after the tragedy in El Paso and all those sacrifices. Honestly, if we had lost everything like back in 1945, June 25th would just be another forgotten footnote in history, just like April 10th, 1941!

I’ve laid out three dates that actually matter: the formation of the National Guard, International recognition and entry into Little Rock! Those are the real milestones for today's America!

Ideally, those would be the days we actually celebrate, rather than focusing on the specific moments when certain decisions were pushed through in Congress—not to mention how people conveniently forget which representatives walked out in protest at the time.

Independence Day: Jan 15th.
Victory Day: Aug 5th.

The fact that we gained international recognition and entry into Little Rock on August 5, 1995, isn't up for debate—that moment when the flag went up over the fortress should be hardwired into the minds of the American people! I might not remember the exact date of January 15th, but I can still feel that rush of pure joy when the news hit the TV about us getting official recognition, and I definitely remember the excitement a River City Resident felt during the New Year's Day celebrations!
For all of that to happen, forming the National Guard was absolutely essential, especially since we could follow them along on TV, unlike the lucky folks who actually got to be right there on the ground!

Ryan Ward2 said:It looks like we have two major national holidays coming up on the horizon: June 22nd, marking our anti-fascist struggle, and June 25th, which is Independence Day.
While both dates are officially recognized, there’s a palpable divide in how they're perceived. It feels as though the first date holds much more weight for those on the political left, whereas the second is the primary focus for those on the right.
One could even argue that these two milestones exist in a state of mutual exclusion, almost at odds with one another.
But I have to wonder—is that really the case? Are there any of you out there who view both dates as equally significant and worthy of celebration, or does such a balanced perspective simply not exist here in the USA?

Honestly, neither of these holidays means anything to the American people and they should just be scrapped altogether!

Back on June 22, 1941, a civil war broke out among Americans, and all it led to was Marshall's America, which isn't even around anymore!

As for June 25th, that was just some bureaucratic decision made by Parliament that most of the world didn't even bother recognizing!
The day that actually matters for America is when the National Guard was established in Washington, D.C., not some guerrilla unit organized by the Communist Party back in '41!
For us, the real Independence Day is in January, when we finally gained recognition from Vatican City and the European Union after months of bloody warfare and total devastation!

Susan Peterson7 said:How is it even possible that in the capital of a nation, building facades fall onto pedestrians, roads are so riddled with potholes that driving feels like an obstacle course, and the historic downtown is paved with nothing but dull gray asphalt? To top it all off, we see multi-million dollar restroom projects being commissioned while police officers seem to be stationed on every single corner. Now, they’re pushing ahead with this "Washington, D.C. Waterfront" project that is supposedly going to define the capital's aesthetic forever. Their grand plan? To erect these hideous concrete and metal blocks 🤦 instead of preserving beautiful buildings in the classic architectural style, complete with cozy cafes, tree-lined promenades, and bike paths—you know, the things that actually make a proper metropolitan city feel livable.

But I won't dwell solely on the utter neglect of the capital—which really should serve as the face of the entire country. Just drive along any major roadway and you'll see nothing but blight: overgrown fields, houses with crumbling exteriors, and trash piling up in yards (especially in those underserved settlements, which is just heartbreaking).

Why does the government and society at large just tolerate this? 🤷 Why aren't those neglected fields being leased to the state or to individuals who could actually farm them to bolster the US economy, rather than just letting them sit idle? Why is it acceptable for a house to stand without any exterior finish? If someone has the capital to build a home, surely they can scrape together a little more for the facade—or perhaps the government should provide subsidies for lower-income citizens to maintain their properties. And why is it permissible to let scrap metal and refuse accumulate in backyards? There should be fines for that kind of negligence, just like anywhere else.

I am glad to see that recent cleanup efforts for illegal dumping sites have finally begun. It was long overdue, and it's heartening to see people volunteering their time to help clean up their own country.

If the mod doesn't take this down, I’m gonna drop another question. Seriously, why is the government—from The Cabinet all the way down to the counties and local towns—basically ignoring the Farm Bill by not even putting out a single public tender for state land across 182 different municipalities and cities between 2001 and 2012? Honestly, I already know the answer to that one!

What kind of "state" are we even talking about when it comes to leasing out neglected farmland?

And what can regular folks actually do if they want to step up and farm this land themselves?
The laws are all cooked up by the state, specifically by US Congress!

I wasn't really talking about different species here, I was just saying they get pushed out once those walnut branches start spreading out! In that specific setup, I know for a fact you can go with peach trees because they fruit pretty fast, but since they don't live all that long, some of them will just dry up once the walnut canopy takes over. I've even seen people mix walnuts with hazelnuts before!

Sophia Lee74 said:Hello there. I have quite a large supply of walnuts on hand, so I am curious about the minimum quantity required to qualify for a government subsidy. Additionally, my walnut trees aren't all located in one single plot; they are actually scattered across several different parcels of land.

When you're filling out the paperwork for the subsidy or logging everything in Arkad, you just list the specific portion of the plot where the walnut trees are located. Like, if you have a 20,000 square foot lot, you just report the 1,000 walnut trees on it and mark the rest as farmland or whatever else it is. It’s all pretty straightforward when you look at the satellite imagery, but you really need to head down to the office where you file everything and make sure you have your property deeds or lease agreements ready to go.

Douglas Sullivan9 said:Does anyone know if there's a specific plant or fruit tree that plays well with walnuts? I have a feeling they might be great neighbors...

Honestly, walnut is probably the least profitable fruit crop out there! My sister and I have about 200 of them planted, and this year we're looking at a total of zero, $0.00! If you're going to start a walnut orchard, you really should mix in some other fruit trees that produce earlier, because once those walnuts spread their canopy and take over, you basically have to cut the other stuff out

People didn't vote for the KUKURUKU crowd because they were desperate to see the Republican Party lose. Plain and simple.
Now, the KUKURUKU group has to prove they aren't just a carbon copy of their biggest rivals. It’s crucial they show they're different.
The scandals hitting them now are nothing compared to what the Republican Party used to pull, but we'll have plenty of time to see how this plays out.

I’m going to be blunt about the voters here. A lot of people act like politics is some magical force that can fix everything, or that everything is solely the responsibility of politicians. But it doesn't work like that. People who obsess over conspiracies or Illuminati plots just make the electorate dull and unhealthy. They end up blocking good ideas, even when those ideas take a decade to pay off. We have a simple decision to make: who do we trust?
Do you put more faith in Scheeks or Šprem? That’s the real question.
If we end up with two identical options, it's a dead heat. And to make sure we aren't just picking between two dying horses that we're expected to feed, we need to pick the healthier one—someone with actual strength and sense.
The smart, capable, and well-rounded people don't want anything to do with politics. They’ve already landed high-paying jobs in some skyscraper. All we're left with is choosing between the ones who couldn't make it elsewhere, the ones who cause the least amount of damage, and the ones we can actually envision moving us forward. The choice is garbage, but even so, this administration has earned more "of the people" labels in three months than the last one did in seven and a half years of power.

The media and Mladen Bajić basically ran the entire election campaign for KUKURUKU! As an independent
citizen, I was totally certain about getting rid of the Republican Party and all their hangers-on, but honestly, I just didn't see a real alternative in KUKURUKU. Plan 21 was nothing more than a glorified pamphlet. And now look at us—we've got a 25% sales tax, 20% electricity rates, 22% gas prices, and even bans on using federal land...
Under our current election law in Congress, we're stuck with a group of politicians who are clearly incompetent. Without direct elections for Congress and local councils, there's no way for us to kick these proven failures off the political stage.

Father Grubišić will always be more of a man of God than Mr. Miklenić is of anything other than small, bloated ideas.
Everyone who voted for this government chose:
-the lesser of two evils
-they chose "no"
-they gave it a shot

That last one is somewhat acceptable, isn't it? Trying to fix things after the country was nearly gutted by a bunch of national idiots and thieves.
The government is "of the people" only because it was built from a fragmented base; it’s a compromise aimed at doing better than the failed big shots who were deciding the fate of the homeland until yesterday.
This isn't just one party's idea; it’s an alliance, which gives it more right to call itself a popular government than, say, Jacin's party.
The majority decided to call for a representative government. Whether they can actually maintain a government that serves the people through the end of the term remains to be seen. Personally, I want to believe they can..

Back during the last elections, I was actually an independent candidate on a minor party's ticket!
I told the party president straight up that we wouldn't even hit 5% of the vote, and man, was I right. I even handed out some materials to high school kids and asked them if they understood the American election law. They said they had no clue! So I explained it to them like this: imagine you're looking at a list of 14 guys, and you're forced to marry the very first person on that list. The girls said that wasn't a choice, and the boys felt the exact same way!
When it came down to circling the KUKURUK list, less than 40% of the citizens actually did it.
Not a single representative from their list made the cut! That's not a government of the people, and it certainly isn't an elected government!
It's all just pure engineering, and it flies right in the face of Article 72 of their own Constitution, which calls for direct, secret ballots. I actually had to look up the definition of the word "direct" in the dictionary! If there's an English professor reading this, please, could you explain to me—and the rest of us—what "direct" actually means in this context? Thanks!

Joshua Davis79 said:We operate under a representative system where we vote for political parties, and then those parties select the representatives who sit in Congress. We don't actually get to vote directly for our individual representatives, nor do we have a direct vote to choose the President or the Administration. While there’s definitely an argument to be made that we should change that to allow for more direct accountability, we still have our parliamentary elections where the primary focus remains on choosing which party gets to lead.
Holding organized parliamentary elections like this is really about giving the winning parties the legitimacy they need to actually go out and form an administration. It’s a standard way of doing things; even much older democracies have been using party lists to handle their voting processes for ages.
If we ever want to see a day where voters can elect individual representatives to Congress by their actual names rather than just voting for a party list, we’re going to need a specific kind of shift in power. Under our current laws, you'd need an administration in office that actually has the political will to overhaul the system and pass those reforms through a vote. Looking at the landscape right now, it's clear that neither the Democratic Party nor the Republican Party is going to be the one to make that happen.
Keep making those choices...

Look, there's a Constitutional solution here that doesn't depend on whether the Republican Party or the Democratic Party holds the majority, and that's holding a referendum on the Election Law ! To make it happen, you just need a member of Congress to propose it, gather signatures from 10% of the voters, and then it goes to a referendum where the people decide YES or NO. Those referendum decisions are totally binding! You can use a referendum to change the Constitution or a Law !

So, how many adult voters out there actually know about this?

rowdyowl said:Hold on. If independents can win local races as mayors or county executives, why couldn't they do the same as members of Congress? 🤷

Look, if you actually want to make any real decisions or pick who sits in the Government, you’ve got to hold a majority in Congress, whether you won it outright or cut a deal to get there. Under the current Constitution, we aren't going to end up with 81 independent representatives just wandering around trying to cobble together a majority on their own. And let me tell you, if you're some independent mayor out there, don't expect the folks in the Government to roll out the red carpet just to help you fix things in your city; if you don't have a solid majority behind you, they’ll just use the local council to tear you down instead.

Look, I already laid out my position on this back when we were talking about those top eight lists that pull in the most signatures for Congress, and honestly, I still stand by it—we should be moving toward direct election for representatives based strictly on the total number of votes their specific list earns, and we really need to apply that same logic to our local government too.

Joshua Davis79 said:Any government that people actually vote for at the polls is, by definition, a government of the people.
The problem is that some folks act more like sheep in a flock, constantly voting for the very same leaders who just end up fleecing them over and over again...

Check out post 3! > Any government that the people pick during an election is technically their own government > Well, the people actually voted for 8 representatives (representing minority groups) for the President of the USA, plus various county executives, mayors, and local officials! But the people didn't vote for those 143 representatives, members of the Government, or all those council members in the cities and counties!
Mark Lopez8 said:Honestly, it would be a total win if the USA just fell apart before we even got pulled into its mess. Slow down there, you optimists—you’re going to realize what this whole union actually is soon enough. Every time we get closer to joining or move a step further into negotiations, the poverty and desperation in this country just seem to spike. The worst is definitely yet to come. Western dominance on the global stage is basically hitting a dead end; all those countries that used to be loaded are losing their footing and sinking straight into the mud. The USA might buy them a little more time, but it isn't stopping the collapse.

It’s not going to fall apart before America joins! Our agricultural negotiators have already done a number on us, and we're basically being run by AT&T, MOL, foreign banks, and those predatory currency clauses! Everything else I mentioned, Mark Lopez8, is staring us right in the face!
An Unpopular Government in Close to Politics ·
Look, I’ve said this plenty of times before, but the real issue here is the way our Electoral College and local government systems are set up! Under the current rules, minority representatives basically get picked by just circling names on a list, which is wild because those people are supposed to be our representatives! You end up with 143 representatives spread across 11 different lists who aren't actually accountable to anyone, and they just go ahead and hand-pick a Federal Government that suits their own interests. They use those lists to grab seats on local councils in towns, cities, and counties, even though we didn't vote for them either! So you have these minority reps sitting there alongside the President of the United States, governors, mayors, and county executives. That's where the real mess starts—if the mayors and governors we actually voted for don't have a majority, they start playing games with the budget and pushing for early elections that the local leaders won't even show up for. If voters screw up and elect the wrong people, technically they could try to kick them out via a referendum, but it's a headache. To me, true popular sovereignty means being able to vote for people by their actual names, not having them hide behind party lists. I truly believe there are some high-quality people out there who deserve a shot if we just fixed the electoral laws. The current crowd in Congress, and honestly even some of the ministers in the Federal Government, aren't the future of this country, and at the local level, it's basically just one giant web of influence.
bluerider63 said:The European Union isn't just going to fall apart overnight.

There's just no way the USA can hang on forever! It’s basically just a setup designed to serve specific interests by keeping markets open and maintaining control without even needing to roll out the tanks. Honestly, the people who voted YES in that referendum, along with the government that pushed it through, should really take responsibility for where we ended up!

If you honestly believe April 10, 1941, was the absolute lowest point in our nation's history, then you’ve got it all wrong! The darkest day for the American people was actually June 22, 1941. That was when the communists, led by Josip Broz, kicked off a full-blown civil war and started slaughtering Americans right on our own soil within the Axis-aligned state! I can see the direct consequences of that right in front of me—I've got a list here of 84 defenders of the Axis-aligned state and several partisans from my own hometown. We're talking about kids, most of them under 30!
I really think this year we should take those survivors who are still around and send them to Auschwitz, Wounded Knee, and then Stalingrad to lay wreaths together, just so we ensure this never happens again. A pozdeav to the partisans, their kids, and their grandkids, and also to the sons of the soldiers who were there at Wounded Knee and walked the Way of the Cross!
