But they could definitely lean harder into that indie vibe. 🍿 😁
Sure... Mumford & Sons and Florence + The Machine (she’s got a gap in her tour schedule between June 19th and 25th). That’s actually a realistic set of expectations when you factor in Damien Rice and Belle and Sebastian. 👍
Future Islands, Frank Turner, Of Monsters and Men, Death Cab for Cutie... It’s a solid little indie appetizer 😬 I'm personally holding out hope for Damien Rice or Belle and Sebastian. They both spend enough time hitting up festivals 🙂 The headliners need to bring some actual energy. Think Pearl Jam 🕺 or Radiohead 🙂 or The Cure 🙂
The lineup isn't actually bad so far. :klap: But since it’s an anniversary year, I’m holding out hope for at least two massive names... maybe something like Pearl Jam 🕺 Last year they were just doing an album tour, but now they could really go big for the festival crowd 🙂
Watched this the other day... Meh. 🙂 It was an okay movie, nothing special. Jennifer Aniston is good, sure, but there’s nothing here worth an Oscar. It might be smart if she stays in this lane; maybe she'll actually pick up a Golden Globe one of these days. 😉
Not sure how they’ll title this one here. Probably just "Cake." Basically, it's the new Jennifer Aniston flick that earned her a Golden Globe nod for Best Actress in a Drama. She didn't take it home, though—that went to Julianna Moore for "still Alice." I haven't actually sat down to watch "Cake" or "still Alice," but I'm sure Julianna Moore earned it. Still, I'm pretty stoked for Jennifer Aniston; she's finally stepping outside her usual bubble and playing someone with actual depth for once. If I had to pick a lighter attempt at this, maybe "Management." Some people are already whispering about Oscar nominations.
You can check out the official trailer HERE.
Here's the gist of it (via IMDb):
"Claire becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support group while grappling with her own, very raw personal tragedy."
So, yet another movie about finding the meaning of life. I say "yet another" like it's a bad thing, but... you know. 😬
The cast includes Jennifer Aniston, Adriana Barraza, Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, and Felicity Huffman. Director: Daniel Barnz
I don't know... I walked up at 8:10 PM and there were about five or six of us in line. The security guards at the entrance told us we had to wait until the song finished before they’d let us in, saying it was only the first one. How does someone play three songs in ten minutes? 😲
The setlist order was totally off. I caught it immediately since I skipped the first track, and the second one was "It's all over now..." just like I mentioned before. Whatever though. 🙂 Joan 😍
I honestly don't even know how to put tonight's concert into words without sounding like I'm exaggerating, though even then, I'd probably miss the mark. I had goosebumps from head to toe, multiple times. Joan is just breathtaking—truly incredible. She felt perfect in that venue, though personally, I think she deserves a massive arena to herself. If you haven't heard of her before (which, based on everyone I ran into tonight, is a lot of people), she’ll completely pull you in. There's this radiant energy she carries, and she just pours it right into the music. I actually showed up at 7:30 PM, but I still missed the first song because security held me up at the entrance. Apparently, my SIGG water bottle wasn't allowed, and I wasn't about to leave it sitting by the door; I insisted on taking it to the bar so they'd watch it for me. By the time I got in, the first song was done, and I was immediately hit by the second one, "It's all over now, baby blue," which is my favorite Dylan cover of hers. It was also pretty sweet when she covered that song by The Beatles, "Ima neka tajna veza"—even though I usually don't vibe with that track, she did it so well with those little stylistic touches... To wrap up the main set, she played "Diamonds and Rust," and it was flawless. Also, that girl doing backup vocals? Her voice is unreal. It's like instead of breathing, she just sings 😁 Anyway... I rarely enjoy encores, but with her, I could have listened to a hundred more. Long story short... I checked a huge item off my bucket list tonight. I went solo and genuinely enjoyed my own company 😬
I jumped in there, but honestly, I was mostly just talking to myself. I’ve had my fair share of concerts where I walked away thinking it would have been way better if I’d just gone solo... 😉
Here’s the official single: I Don't Want to Change You Full
Full version
If this isn't about Lisa... 🤷 It’s been years, and he’s clearly changed. You can hear it in these tracks. Honestly, I think his whole concept of love has shifted. Eight or more years ago, everything was just emotional chaos. Now, it feels like he’s found some kind of peace, even within that unrequited thing he had with Lisa. Mostly digging it.
If anyone is heading out to Milan on October 18th from somewhere like Chicago, Detroit, or anywhere else in the States for Damien Rice, hit me up via DM. We’ve got a car, but we’re missing a driver... looking to head out from the Chicago area! There are three of us right now... we’re thinking costs would be around $83 per person for the round trip. We'll be heading back right after the show ends. The only tickets left are in the last section for 28 bucks.
Here it is... she's back with some fresh material 🙂
The new album drops on October 31st "My Favorite Faded Fantasy" . A lot of words in that title, 😬 pretty much . Anyway, here's Song Here . And here’s another track from the album, live version: The Box . Me and my buddy Damien are renewing love 😍 .
(spoiler) The whole subplot with the aunt and dad felt totally unnecessary to me. It’s like they couldn't just settle for them being biological parents; they had to make them half-siblings too. Just extra noise. As for the idea that there's too much dialogue or that it's all surface-level—I’m going to have to disagree with you there. I mean, if they actually sat down and explored every single backstory, we'd be watching a movie within a movie. Everything feels pretty well-handled; you get enough insight into everyone's character to actually form an opinion while you're watching.
It’s a David O. Russell film starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Both are Oscar nominees here—Meryl for lead, Julia for supporting. Honestly, they both crushed it. Meryl has always been one of my favorites; she just has this way of inhabiting any role completely. She absolutely tore it apart here. Playing that scattered, unstable woman hooked on pills? It looked effortless, like she’s done it a hundred times before. Even though the competition in the women's category is pretty brutal this year... if she takes it home again, I wouldn't complain. (Though I suspect Cate Blanchett might snag it, mostly because she carried a tedious movie like "Blue Jasmine" solely on the strength of her acting.) I’m pulling for Julia this time around. To me, none of the other actresses delivered a performance quite as solid as hers..
August: Osage County is about a totally messed up family that reconvenes at the same old spot after the father disappears. It’s really just the story of three sisters and their dysfunctional mother.
By the end of the two-hour runtime (which always feels longer to me because I tend to overthink the plot).. I was actually pretty happy with it. As the secrets start spilling out, the hysteria kicks in—just constant fighting, accusations, all tangled up with the mother's pill addiction. Some people might find the yelling and the chaos a bit much.. But since I have a bit of a wild streak myself sometimes, it hit harder. There’s a perfect quote from Karenina that fits: "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way". That’s basically this entire movie in a nutshell.
The pacing might feel slow or boring to some, but hey.. it worked for me 🙂.
quietbison86 said:I totally forgot to mention how much this movie hammers home that whole homophobic, super conservative vibe from the South—it’s absolutely loaded with messages, honestly more than 12 Years a Slave ever was. Because of that, I'm giving it the edge in this matchup 🙂
