Joseph Thompson4 said:Man, this thread... clearly not many people have watched this yet, and half the discussion isn't even about the movie. It’s definitely worth your time. It isn't as flashy or high-energy as Wolf with WS, but it’s educational, and I think a lot of people will be drawn to it because of the whole pharmaceutical angle—basically how big corporations are poisoning us. I didn't find it boring at all, which is a massive change of pace from American Hustle. Personally, I’m giving both Matthew McConaughey and Leto my vote 👍 though I wouldn't go so far as to say they'll win an Oscar (even if I am rooting for Leto). I think I'll actually give Mud a watch too. I was originally going to start with that, but then I pivoted to DBC since Oscar season is officially upon us.
I'm with you on that. I'm leaning towards Leto just because it’s about time he finally gets an Oscar, but honestly, I won't complain if Matthew wins. 🙂 I watched American Hustle last night and there were definitely moments where I wanted to fast-forward through it.
Though... I thought Jonah Hill was pretty good in Wolf... so I'm really not sure who I'd pick for Best Supporting Actor.. 🤷
The movie is great, though maybe not quite an Oscar contender. Still, Matthew McConaughey is incredible. For the first five minutes, I thought it was getting a bit too loud and forced, but then it just smoothed out. Seriously, props to him! Someone mentioned he’s just playing another Texan cowboy and only actually lost weight. Total nonsense. This is easily his most complex role yet, and he nailed it. Everything he's been doing lately is solid. Paper Boy, Wolf of Wall Street, True Detective, Magic Make (even if he's a bit much there)... Anyway, I really hope he takes home the Oscar. He earned it.
Just checking in to see if anyone’s actually awake in this thread. The title says it all, pretty much 😉 I figured I'd drop one of their more "appropriate" tracks here...
So, Mario Huljev has been hanging around the music scene for ages, but he’s never really stepped into the spotlight properly. Honestly, I think his moment is finally arriving. He’s got this killer, distinct voice. A little mix of funk and pop. The industry is starting to notice, too—he just picked up some recognition at the Grammy Awards and a local festival that named him best newcomer.
Ten years late to the party, but I finally sat down and watched this movie.
It’s good. The dialogue hits home. The story works... though it feels a little messy in the execution. Bradley Cooper is such a powerhouse.. honestly, he’s outgrown the "best actor" labels for me.. he’s got everything: the raw emotion, the presence, the charm, and most importantly.. he actually makes me believe him when he's acting.. Cate Blanchett is exactly the same way.. they really complement each other. 👍
I’ve always had a soft spot for American cinema. 🙂
This movie actually caught me off guard. I really wasn't expecting much... It isn't some shallow flick, either. The relationships have actual depth. Especially the dynamic between Joanne and Alex. There's this heavy emotional bond there, and by the end, you're left wondering if it was just a love that never got its shot, or if they totally blew it when they split up. Is it too late to fix those old mistakes, or is the whole thing just an illusion?
Then you have Michael and Laura, which is a completely different vibe... more about raw passion, instinct, and that sheer rush. Though, it felt like she had these massive expectations that she eventually just crushed herself, almost like she was kidding herself. At least, that’s how it landed with me.
I walked away feeling like everyone in this story messed up somehow. But Joanne and Alex seem like they'll be the ones hurting most. Alex especially. Guillaume Canet was excellent in his role.
Even though the pacing is pretty slow, it does a great job of setting the mood. I think you get it better once you've lived through similar stuff yourself 😉 whether that's been a good experience or a bad one 😬
Total garbage movie. I’m trying to give it a second chance, but I just hit the 50-minute mark and... yeah, no. I can't do it. It's just way too bloated.
Not that I really expected much... honestly, I just downloaded it on a whim without doing any homework. The title 😬 was the only thing that caught my eye. That scene from a movie where the kid falls into the lake? Absolutely gut-wrenching. It’s heavy, intense, and the acting is just spot on. 🙏
Marion and Matthias both crushed their roles too.
That makes three great American films in a row for me!
redtiger53 said:It’s a great documentary. You hit the nail on the head, so I'll just throw in my own suggestions. Best bet is to watch it without looking up anything beforehand. Spoilers will ruin the whole vibe. 😉
Yeah... that was my approach too. Had zero clue what it was about... just knew it involved some musician nobody had ever heard of before.🙂
I listened to that other album, "Coming from reality," today. It's killer. Man, it would be incredible to catch one of his shows live.😉
It’s a beautiful, heavy, life-altering story about a guy who had every single chance to become the next Bob Dylan here in the States—at least according to someone who thinks Dylan was the greatest poet of the 20th century. It's the story of the legendary musician Sixto Rodriguez. But... life doesn't always play by the rules. Honestly, this documentary is more about those people out there with massive talent who just, for whatever reason, never quite reach the stratosphere. Or maybe it’s about how you’re never too old to dream, and how wild things can happen when you least expect them.
Bottom line... after watching this, I hopped onto Amazon and ordered his album. People like him deserve the recognition.
It blows my mind that it took forty years for his music to actually find its way to us.
Just watch the documentary. Seriously. You might not even be into this kind of music, but you will love the story. It rightfully picked up an Oscar along with a bunch of other awards.
I see on IMDb that it’s been playing in theaters across America. Maybe some of you were 😉

And to wrap it up—or start it off—give this song a listen (though, like me, you should probably watch the doc first, then go down the rabbit hole: Searching for Sugar Man
I’ve been listening to him for years... seven, eight? Honestly, who knows anymore. I’ve practically worn out both albums. Then he and Lisa broke up and he just vanished, except for that little track he did with Melanie. Even then, I was still blasting his albums, dreaming about actually seeing him live one day. If a concert had happened three or four years ago, it probably would’ve felt like some kind of catharsis. But man, he basically fell off the face of the earth until about a year ago. By then, I’d already aged right past him.
Still... for the sake of all those years, I’d go. He’s playing near the Czech Republic this summer, which is the closest thing I'll get. 🤷
It's not at the local Health Center. It's over in that massive building right where Horvaćanski meets Savska and Jadranska.
That building is right next to mine.

As far as the music scene goes, it’s going downhill.
After last year's lineup (2012), there's no way you can call this the biggest festival in America anymore. Not by a long shot.
Booking Franz Ferdinand—who haven't put out anything decent in years and nobody really cares about anymore—is just a sign of how much things are sliding. And don't even get me started on some of the other names.
Nicholas Nguyen said:I handle my typing with my left hand while everything else is done with my right, just like any other "normal" right-handed person. Which category does that put me in then? 🤔
ambidekster 🤷 And when you try doing all that right-handed stuff with your left... are you just clumsy or what?
No clue... maybe you're like me. Nobody ever bothered to correct you, so you just practiced until it stuck. 😉
Here’s an example... how you actually "learn" left-handedness.
I’ve used a steak knife in my left hand my entire life. Nobody ever bothered to correct me, and honestly, it’s just easier that way. I tried using my right hand once—it felt clumsy, sure, but if I actually put in the effort, I could probably reach some level of "perfection." But since it doesn't really matter to me, I can't be bothered to
Same goes for texting on my phone... I use my left hand for that, among other things.
But no, I'm not ambidextrous. 🙂
👋
Anyway, we’ll see eye to eye on this. This whole thread feels like it's just a place for certain lefties to come and brag, which proves nothing because there isn't even any scientific evidence to back it up 😁. Looking at four lefties I know personally, they're totally ordinary. Nothing special, nothing different about them. In fact... if I wanted to brag, I'd say I'm better than most of them at the stuff mentioned in the original post 🤣 🤣. Actually, when it comes to certain things, none of those four are even good 😁—it's almost laughable. And two of them are just incompetent, to put it mildly 😂 🤣
