Best PC build for gaming and live streaming? in Desktops ·
Like Chris Robinson25 was saying, streaming isn't really worth the effort if you're looking for big numbers right away. When you're just starting out, you basically have zero viewers, and let's be honest—the Twitch front page is pretty much reserved for the massive pros.
The only people actually watching would probably just be your buddies clicking a link you sent them.

I actually tried jumping into it myself last year when Titanfall was still a thing, and man, it’s a total grind. It can be pretty discouraging.
You'll need to grab Xplit Gamecaster to handle the stream itself, plus if you want to get fancy with editing titles or adding things like "Top Donors" on screen, you might look into Wirecast.
Gaming build + looking for a price check in Desktops ·
If I end up picking up a new GPU anytime soon, there's a pretty good chance I'll go with the ASUS Strix GTX 970. Sure, it’s maybe $100 more expensive than the Gigabyte model, but honestly, I think it's worth the extra cash.
Does anyone know if there are actual benchmarks for GPU coolers? Like, how can you tell if the WF3 is actually better than the DirectCU II?

From what I can gather looking at these two cards, I’d personally lean toward the ASUS Strix model. It comes with the DirectCU II cooler straight from the factory and stays about 30% quieter during use.
I think the MSI version lacks that 0dB fan technology, which basically means the fans stay totally silent when you're just idling or doing light tasks.

Yeah, honestly. You’re probably going to be stuck with a GTX970 that'll start hitting a massive bottleneck by next year if developers keep pushing things this hard.

Larry Ortiz5 said:I actually finished Dying Light and uninstalled it right after. By the way, I've heard people saying the game plays way smoother now that they've slapped on that latest 1.4.0 patch. If you haven't grabbed the update yet, you definitely should just to see for yourself.

EDIT: My monitor's resolution is 1680x1050. Whatever, I'm just gonna redownload the game and install the update now to see what's what. Looking at some YouTube clips of the updated version, the game isn't even hitting 3300MB. Looks like that update actually did its job.

Even at 3300MB, that GPU usage is still pretty high.
They really need to nerf that a bit more—get it down below 3.

Man, that's wild. You might want to try holding off on the confetti for a bit.

Man... 21 pages just to assemble a damn coffee maker.
You could've probably built a NASA space shuttle in that time instead. 😳

I wouldn't know. I'm running a TFII.

Mine is still running smooth as silk. Aside from some issues when I try to overclock, it’s been totally fine.

This is getting ridiculous 😳
Just trolls as far as the eye can see 🍿

Plus, the weather's been pretty miserable lately—super humid, and honestly, the weeds in my yard are growing like crazy...

Time to go pull some weeds.

I’d probably go with the BlackWidow.
It seems like the go-to choice for most hardcore gamers out there.

The only catch is the price tag—it’s over $100, which feels pretty steep.
Especially if you want the Chroma version with all those colors; that one'll run you closer to $433.
New monitor or a PC upgrade? in Desktops ·
Robert Rodriguez2 said:Drew Sanchez82, I can't say I agree that the price for a 970 is reasonable. Over here, it’s $1000 sitting at about $500, while in the States you can grab one for anywhere from $300 to $350 depending on the brand—so roughly $1800-$700. That's a massive chunk of change. With what we pay for a 970 here, you could easily walk into a store in the US, pick up a 980, and still have cash left over.

It's pretty much common knowledge that prices in our neck of the woods are totally inflated compared to, say, America, but people are still buying this card like crazy.
For a card that's strictly high-end gaming, that number seems fine to me, especially since if you aren't planning an upgrade anytime soon, you're set for a long time.
I remember back in the day when cards with only 3-4GB of VRAM were priced $100-$200 higher than this.

The 970 even has some $917 praise in Media outlets.

But looking at his budget of $600, honestly, it might be better to just sell the current NVIDIA GTX 7850 and go for an R9 290 instead.

copperwolf89 said:Is the price a bit steep? 😲 My PC has been running for about two years now and it’s been serving me incredibly well, though I did run into one annoying issue: my C drive is only 60GB, so it feels like it's constantly hitting capacity. Looking back, I really should have opted for a larger SSD from the start. As for upgrading the graphics card, I think I might hold off on that for a moment and focus on getting a better monitor instead... I'm still weighing my options, honestly.

On another note, does anyone have an idea of what I could get for this setup if I decided to sell it? Would it make sense to add the cost of a new graphics card to the sale price and just trade it all in for something newer and more powerful as a complete bundle? Thanks!

Look, yeah, the price tag isn't exactly small, but you're basically set for a long time once you pull the trigger. Honestly, when you look at how they actually perform, it’s actually a pretty decent deal.
And hey, if dropping three grand all at once feels like too much of a hit to your wallet, you can always just swing the cost over a few months with some financing. No biggie.
PSU recommendations? in Desktops ·
mellowsurfer59 said:My bad, I actually meant the 290—that one’s probably about $150 more. Honestly, though, that's just a side note. What I’m really focused on is the power supply. I’ve got maybe $150 set aside for it, and I was thinking about grabbing something around 750W.

A 750W unit is total overkill for a GPU running in single mode, and even the 290 doesn't really need that much juice.
Just grab one of those 80+ Gold rated units in the 600-650W range; that should be your limit.

Looks pretty solid to me. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Is this guy just copying his own build? Again.
I mean, it's all subjective, right? Just a matter of taste.
Nancy Kelly31 said:What on earth is this supposed to mean—60 images per second? That’s what pops up whenever I try to book tickets online... Just how many images are they running through there, honestly? Images per second? Is that considered more or less than the average? Does it even matter at all?

Standard movies usually run at 24 fps, though some of those newer 3D blockbusters, like the hobbit, have versions at 48 fps to make the movement look smoother and more natural.
Looks like everyone is starting to push for a 60 fps upgrade now.

Roger Mitchell4 said:Mclovin has 8GB of RAM, while this setup from Timothy Kim60 only has 4GB. That’s why I’m leaning toward buying from Mclovin. What do you guys think?

It shouldn't be much of a headache to just toss another 4GB into Timothy Kim60's rig.😁

Timothy Kim60 said:By the way, if you go with MSI, Asus, or Gigabyte, you get an extra year of warranty.

That's true. My MSI board actually came with a 3-year warranty.
Looks like my next upgrade is probably gonna be MSI too.
