Is dental crowns/bonding necessary? (Bite issues and more) in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Thanks so much, really, thanks a million! 🙂

Thanks for the reply! I actually spent some time browsing my dentist's website to check out the pricing for crowns, and apparently, a porcelain-fused-to-metal one is about $0.50. Honestly, I was expecting it to be way more expensive, so that price point feels totally doable for me.

Just one more thing—do you think it's okay to just leave things as they are for a few weeks until I can get an appointment with my regular dentist?

To be totally honest, I’m a little strapped for cash right now, so I can't afford to get my crown fixed immediately. Because of that, I wanted to ask—do you think it would be okay to just leave it looking like this for a little while? 🤔

So, here’s the deal: my top four teeth basically split in half about three years ago. After that mess, I went to the dentist, they cleaned everything out, and put in this composite filling—you know, like a little tooth replacement—that actually looked and felt like a real tooth. It was super solid and stayed perfectly in place until about a month ago, when I accidentally tugged on it with some dental floss and the whole thing just popped right out. My dentist cleaned the area again, filled it up with some material (I’m not really sure what it was, I don't know the lingo), sealed it, and put that little filling back on top.
Now, it hasn't even been three weeks, and I was eating some chips and—bam—it fell out again! It’s not like the tooth is wide open or anything; you can just see that flat white filling material mixed in with a bit of gum tissue. To be honest? It doesn't hurt at all. In fact, it actually feels way more comfortable this way than when I had that replacement filling, because I was constantly terrified of biting down too hard or worrying it would just pop out mid-meal.
What I'm really wondering is, do I absolutely *have* to get that replacement filling done again? My big worry is whether having that extra pressure on the remaining part of my tooth is going to cause it to crack or maybe even split the root or something like that? Or is there a risk that the internal filling isn't supposed to be exposed to air or used for chewing without the outer layer? 🤔 Because honestly, I feel totally fine as is, but if my dentist puts that filling back in, it’s clearly just going to fall out again the next time I grab a snack.

Can anyone help me out here? Is it okay to just leave it like this? And to make matters worse, my dentist is out of town on vacation for another three weeks!
Flu symptoms in Health ·
Is it actually normal for a primary care doctor to insist you show up in person just to get a sick note for the flu?

The guy was hit with a 102 fever yesterday afternoon—muscle aches, killer headache, the whole classic flu experience. We were trying everything to bring the temperature down, but by this morning, it had spiked right back up. He can barely even stand; he looks like death warmed over. He calls the doctor around 7:30 AM, and they tell him it’s probably the flu and they’ll write him a sick note, but then the nurse jumps in and says, "Nope, nothing can be done over the phone, the doctor has to see him first." So now, he had to trek out there while being incredibly contagious. We sat there waiting for maybe 45 minutes because he didn't have an appointment, and honestly, he probably infected half the waiting room, including me since I had to go with him. He was so weak, and it was just brutal watching him struggle to stay upright with a massive fever just so a doctor could spend two measly minutes signing a piece of paper.😕

I really don't get this approach. Whenever I'm sick, I always head over and wait outside the door if I'm not working, because I know the nurse is always going to say you have to come in. But this is the flu! The person is a walking contagion! It's obvious that because they have to deal with all the people who are faking it, the ones who are actually suffering end up getting punished for it.🙂
Religion classes in school - Megathread in Students & Teens ·
Honestly, I went through absolute hell in elementary school because of religious studies classes. Just thinking about 👎 I think I was the only kid in all four grades who didn't attend, plus there was this one Muslim boy in our class who skipped it too. But man, I felt targeted. For eight whole years, everyone was constantly on my case, asking, "Why don't you go to religion class?" On top of that, I was such a shy, withdrawn kid back then. It really left a mark on me. My mom actually had to go talk to the principal when I started school because there wasn't any official option for me other than sitting in the hallway, so they agreed I could stay in the classroom and just do something else, like my homework. But even then, during prayer time, everyone would turn around and stare at me while they prayed—whispering, glancing, just total playground terror. Later on, they started asking if I was Muslim, and when I told them no, they’d just say, "Yeah, right, we don't believe you." Kids aren't to blame, obviously—they just repeat what they hear at home—but I lived in an environment, specifically in New York City, where almost everyone was deeply religious, and that makes such a huge difference. We even had those days where they'd bless bread in the hallway; all the students would gather around the priest for the blessing, and I’d just sit there feeling so incredibly awkward because everyone was looking at me. When you grow up feeling like you never quite fit into the crowd, it becomes such a heavy burden to carry... I couldn't wait to leave, and I finally felt like I could breathe again once I hit high school. I didn't say anything to my mom when I was little; she didn't even realize how much I was struggling, and honestly, I didn't fully understand it myself either. I just knew I felt uncomfortable whenever religion class rolled around. On the days we didn't have it, we all felt like "one of them," but the moment that class showed up... ugh, it was awful.
I definitely don't want my future child to go through something like that, but at the same time, I don't see myself enrolling them in those classes.
Project: Find a Friend (Classifieds / Meetup Thread) in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hey there! 🙂
So, I posted an ad over on some niche dating sites, and I actually had some pretty interesting people reach out... so I figured, why not give it a shot here too?
First things first, though—I’m looking to connect with women specifically, since I’m already seeing someone.
I'm 23. I know age isn't everything, but I do have a minor medical thing I should mention; if you're curious, feel free to shoot me a DM and we can chat about it privately. 😁
I'm based in New York City
Hope everyone's having a good one!

Can someone walk me through how sleep aids actually work? Like, what’s the deal with the mechanics of them, and how long does it usually take before you're wide awake in the morning? Also, I was wondering—can you just pick some up at a local CVS or Walgreens without needing a prescription from a doctor? Thanks!
and if anyone has any recommendations... please...
I am dealing with some really heavy-duty sleep issues lately.
