Caught a movie last night. It was pretty good—definitely worth a watch—but I’m still scratching my head over how the whole thing kicked off, and honestly, that ending left me a little lost.
I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7, but I've hit a wall—it just won't boot. It keeps giving me this "Cannot boot from CD" error. The weird thing is, when I did this a little while ago, I didn't even have to deal with booting; it was almost like I just ran the installer right from my desktop like it was some basic program or something. Has anyone else run into this headache before? Any ideas on how I can get past this?
Keith Bennett38 said:I'm not entirely sure I follow the question, but I think I get what you're getting at! Try running "check now"—it scans the files on the drive and tries to fix any errors it finds. If it cuts out halfway through, it basically means your USB stick is acting up. Have you tried plugging it into a different computer yet?? If that doesn't work and the data is super important, just Google "USB flash drive repair." You'll find plenty of recovery software—some are free, some will cost you a bit. 🙂
Just let the check run. Honestly, I think I messed up by hitting "check now" on the drive when I probably shouldn't have—that's why some files won't open. Thankfully, the files aren't actually lost, thank God. Here’s a screenshot: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/64/unlednd.jpg/ For example, you can see my Pictures—that opens fine and everything I need is in there—but then there are these white file icons that just won't open. Some work if I use specific programs like Photoshop, but others just won't budge. Before all this, I noticed some files were showing up as empty: "This folder is empty" keeps popping up whenever I plug the USB into my PC after installing Windows 7. Hopefully, the screenshot I posted makes sense—that's the main issue, I just can't open them.
So, what actually happens if I hit "check now" on a drive with a USB stick plugged in and then the connection cuts out halfway through? Now some of my files won't even open... I'm honestly freaking out because everything on there is super important—like, life-or-death kind of important.

Some of the files actually have content, but then others are totally empty—like, I see some images appearing fine, while others just won't show up at all. Honestly, I have no clue why this is happening...
So, I just finished installing Windows 7, plugged in my USB drive, and now some of my files are showing up as totally empty? I moved all my photos and docs onto the thumb drive before the install to make sure they wouldn't get wiped out—I had no clue I was supposed to format it first, but hey, mistakes happen, right? Anyway, how do I actually get those files back or even just make them show up instead of these blank icons?
Honestly, I don't think Windows 7 is a bad OS at all—in fact, I'd say it’s probably the best one out there without too many downsides. Since I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an installation soon, does anyone know for sure if Windows 7 is going to run smoothly on my rig?
Thanks for all the input, everyone. If I run into any snags during the process, I'll definitely be back here to pick your brains again 🙂

And honestly, stick with the x32 version if you're running less than 4GB of RAM😉
Gotcha. Just curious though, where'd you get ASUS from? I checked everything and my board is actually a Gigabyte. That’s why I couldn't find anything useful on that ASUS link you sent.
Here's my motherboard: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/com...ents&os=64-bit Think it'll work?
Douglas Garcia52 said:Yeah, you can definitely run Windows 7 there—just make sure you double-check if all the drivers for your specific motherboard are actually available first.
Older Asus boards can be a bit of a headache with that stuff. 🙂
Alright, regarding those drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/o.htm?.../mb/Windows_7/ What do you think? Does it look like there's anything for my board? Since you can see my specs, which version should I go with, 32-bit or 64-bit? If I don't have at least 4GB of RAM, is it better to just stick with the 32-bit version?
I'm thinking about finally making the jump from Windows XP over to Windows 7, but I wanted to be smart about it—you know, make sure my old rig could actually handle it first. So, I downloaded the Windows 7 Advisor, got it installed, hit that "check start" button... and absolutely nothing happened. Just dead air. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
The world’s gone totally materialistic lately—our society is just one giant consumerist machine now, way more hierarchical and honestly, kind of slave-like compared to how things used to be. People don't even care about who you actually are anymore; they only care about what you’ve got. It’s all driven by this ego trip society forces on us, where we think "more money equals more respect." We all know deep down that power and cash tend to corrupt people, but let's be real—most of us secretly crave that bank account boost, and if we saw a pile of cash sitting there, we'd probably grab 😁 It’s pretty wild when you think about it—back in the day, you could have just two or three people working to feed a whole family, right? But nowadays, that’s nowhere near enough. We’re grinding harder and longer than ever before, which makes zero sense considering how much technology has automated everything. Despite all those advancements, we’re still stuck working ourselves to the bone because the cost of living keeps climbing and the paycheck never feels like enough.
