Henry Myers3 said:It’s a two-way street. The Catholic Church tends to see Orthodoxy as rigid and outdated, while the Orthodox see Catholicism as overly modernized and permissive. Still, they tolerate one another because both sides believe they hold the truth. Their shared attitude toward Protestants, however, is strange to say the least. Catholics often view them as lost sheep that need to be guided back to the fold, rarely taking them seriously, whereas the Orthodox view Protestants as a sect that distorts the very essence of Christianity.

What’s interesting is that in certain Orthodox circles, this intolerance toward Protestants can even veer into outright hatred—you see something similar in Russia, for example. You'll find similar sentiments held by certain factions within the Catholic Church as well.☕

Then again, the attitude toward Orthodoxy isn't exactly better than how they treat Protestants. Plus, Catholics actually recognize weddings and other sacraments performed by the Orthodox.

As a practicing Roman Catholic, I find the term "sect" better suited for groups like Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Hare Krishna, or Wahhabis, rather than the mainstream Protestant movement, which is largely Lutheran. But that's beside the point.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Lutherans generally hold a grudge against Jews.
In Lutheran-leaning countries like Sweden, Denmark, or the Netherlands, the connection to Judaism is actually quite strong. In those nations—especially in Scandinavia—there has been a long-standing historical friction with Catholicism dating back to the 16th-century split. Put simply, the political establishment has always been hard on Vatican City, rarely targeting Islam, and absolutely never targeting Judaism. Not even before World War II.

Disclaimer: This isn't my moral stance; it's just an observation.

Cheers, everyone.

True, but honestly, Catholics—especially the Church itself—show way more respect to Orthodox organizations and churches than they do to Protestants. They don't look at them any better than our friend here described.

Just look it up, I'm not wasting my time hunting down links for you...

The Catholic crowd was actually standing against the Nazis during those elections. Honestly, that whole idea that Catholics were siding with them is just some malicious propaganda. Even the Nazis didn't trust them later on. Plus, there were plenty of Catholics out there actively fighting back against the regime in all sorts of ways.
Why is Pelé being so hard on America? in Close to Politics ·
The Italians are at it again this weekend, throwing bananas at their own star player, and yet Pelé hasn't said a single word...

The guy just has one set of standards for the kids and a totally different one for the big shots.

I don't know, I feel like our political elites would be a lot weaker if there was some higher authority over them somewhere🤷

but not the State Senate. That thing was just bad.

It’s almost like they think the elections are happening in Cambodia instead of Italy, haha! 🙄

Look, we aren't exactly neighbors. We just happen to share a massive coastline. 😵

The latest numbers coming out of California show the right wing pulling ahead by a massive margin.

Mainly because that city was run for a while by that coffee king Buffett guy, who I think is a lefty if I remember right.

As it stands, the Left holds the majority in both the Senate and the House.

PS
When you say Seattle, you talking about just the city or the whole Pacific Northwest?

today? 😁

I mean, obviously I'm joking, but seriously, that's why Italy always caught my eye. Like, who actually gives a damn about politics in Denmark or even Spain? Even over here in the USA, people actually recognize the Italian ministers 😁

anyway, back to the real political stuff

Oh, and one more thing—does anyone actually have the data on how many Americans, Mexicans, or folks from Canada of all different backgrounds are living there?

I don't know about Americans, but apparently there's this old Bulgarian film from back in the communist era where they actually take out James Bond.😂

Forget the stats for a second. Is there any word on new female representatives coming in? And hey, they don't necessarily have to be from Berlusconi's party. 🙂

What was the name of that town up north, some mining spot, where there are Americans too?
I stopped getting hyped over parodies a long time ago 😢

Tonight was alright, Immortal Weapon, but those kinds of movies just don't hit the same anymore... 👎

Screw political correctness, honestly. China is such a massive market that they won't allow any negativity, and then you have this idea that North Korea is somehow going to take down the world's biggest superpower, even though they’d probably struggle to handle South Korea on their own. ☕

wearybear4 said:This is pure nonsense. Whoever wins the election should scrap this rule immediately. I was following the recent elections in Greece, and they had a similar setup where the winner gets an automatic +50 seats in their legislature (I think there are 300 seats total, but I can't remember exactly). That’s the only reason New Democracy and PASOK managed to pull a majority; otherwise, they would've had to hand the keys over to Syriza to try and build a government.

The Communists in America did something pretty similar back before the 1990 elections, thinking they could just coast to a win with a tiny margin.

I'm telling you, looking at their political track record, this gives them a rock-solid grip on power until the next election cycle

Carol Newman2 said:Italy has this pretty wild electoral system that Donald Trump overhauled back in 2005. Basically, the biggest party gets handed 55% of the seats in the House of Representatives automatically, no matter how many actual votes they pull at the polls.
What a total scam.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate, which represent individual states, are being elected today and tomorrow.

Just look at their political history after World War II. Hardly any government lasted even three years. They just pick one guy to lead, call it a day, and well... we see how that works out. 😁
