Would it be worth running a TORCH panel, or at least testing specifically for toxoplasmosis? 🤷 My OB-GYN actually ordered those tests the second she confirmed my pregnancy and found out I had a cat My husband has taken over all the litter box duties entirely And honestly, Bella the cat is safe—the real risk comes from undercooked meat, not from an indoor cat who isn't eating raw scraps
Angela Davis74 said:The next time some mother with an undisciplined kid tries to lecture me with that "you'll see" nonsense, I’m going to tell her to focus on raising her own child instead of trying to educate mine.
Screw you all, you lunatics! 😠
Hey girl, looks like that birthday party last night was quite the blast! 😬
Anyway—that whole "you'll see" attitude really gets under my skin.
slybadger99 said:Haha, honestly, even we aren't entirely sure what's going on yet since my little one refuses to roll over just to show us 🤣
But based on one quick photo we caught, I'm pretty sure it's a boy!
It seems like everyone's first reaction when they see me is to ask "what happened??"
And some people don't even bother saying hello before they jump straight to comments like, "Wow, you haven't gained any weight at all!"
Well, I haven't, because I'm actually being really mindful of what and how much I eat!
Besides, why does anyone even care about my weight?? It's not like they're actually wishing for me to look like an elephant☕
I'm in the exact same boat It's constant—comments like, "Oh, you didn't put on any weight," or "You've only got a little belly," or even, "Wait, we thought you'd have gained at least 40 pounds by now." 🙂 🙄
Honestly, I've always been a bigger girl and struggled with my weight—so I guess everyone just expected me to blow up like a balloon during this pregnancy. 🤷 Instead of being happy for me because things are going well, they just stare at me in total shock and disbelief.
Nathan Kelly said:And once he finally makes it home, what’s his routine? Does he just collapse onto the couch and pass out? 🤷 until his next shift starts?
No, he’s currently laying tile in our new place... plus, we have a massive yard—about 10,000 square feet—filled with fruit trees, flowers, and landscaping... that needs constant upkeep all year round. To me, it just makes more sense for my mom to come over and help out with the housework, while he stays busy with his projects so we can move into the new house sooner.
You’re looking at this strictly from your own perspective—I'm assuming you live in a 500-square-foot apartment on the 8th floor of a high-rise, where the only thing to do after work is crash on the sofa and watch TV.
I’m looking at this from mine—which is everything I just mentioned.
Different lifestyles require different approaches. If you honestly find that hard to wrap your head around, then I don't even know what to tell you.
And what really gets under my skin is how some people go overboard defending their husbands—acting like he's some martyr just because he pulls a 6 AM to 6 PM shift. So what? Big deal. ☕
Anyway, I'm done playing the "nice girl" role.
Go ahead, tear me apart. 🙂
As far as my understanding of the laws of physics goes—and let's be honest, they haven't changed lately—it’s still physically impossible to be in two places at once. So, while he’s busy working, it’s perfectly reasonable that he can't simultaneously juggle a hundred other things around the kid—cooking, laundry, cleaning... you get the idea. Is it really any wonder?
Look, I’m not really interested in getting into a back-and-forth debate with you—not because I'm avoiding the topic, but because we simply see things through different lenses. You have your perspective, and I have mine. Honestly? No matter what I write to you, I’m not going to budge on my stance, and I doubt you’ll change yours either. Why bother spinning our wheels?
Nathan Kelly said:I honestly don't get it when someone’s mom or mother-in-law shows up just to scrub the floors and whip up lunch... I mean, seriously, what exactly is the husband doing while all that's happening? 🤔
Work—you know the drill. It’s that grind where you’re up at 6:00 AM and don't crawl back through your front door until 6:00 PM. Exhausting? Absolutely.
northernseal6 — I hear you on what you’re getting at—I was just using that as an example to show how things play out on my end. And honestly? I’m right there with you. There is absolutely no reason to be dividing up jobs based on whether someone is a man or a woman.
northernseal6 said:Look, I don't mind if someone's mom helps out, I just don't get why the dads never show up to help. Unless they're stuck in a wheelchair, I guess? 😉
In my house, while Mom was handling the housework, Dad would be busy painting the new apartment—so he was definitely contributing, just in a different way.
It's pretty much the same deal for me right now; since Mom isn't working, she can drop by whenever she wants. But as for Dad? He actually needs to take some vacation days to make it happen.
northernseal6 said:I don't get the whole thing about the two women. Is tidying up somehow hardwired into female DNA while men are exempt?😕
The way people say "wittle baby," "sweetie pie," or "little munchkin" drives me absolutely crazy. I just say "child," but apparently that isn't "motherly" enough. Also, hearing the word "mommy" used in every single context—at the doctor, at daycare, even on this forum—really bugs me. It blows my mind how everyone acts shocked when I say I want my child to take my last name. I honestly don't see any reason why a kid should automatically carry the father's name instead of mine. It really irritates me when women call their moms to come over and clean or cook after they give birth, yet they rarely mention their husbands, boyfriends, or dads helping out. Sure, not everyone can cook, but anyone can wash dishes, vacuum, or run to the grocery store. Everything else is just an excuse. And it totally gets under my skin when people claim women are more naturally bonded to kids, or that we want them more, or that we're better at changing and bathing them. From where I'm standing, the only difference between me and a guy is that he can't give birth or breastfeed. P.S. Obviously, I'm excited about my baby and I love them!🙂 Alright, go ahead and tear me apart.
🤣 Of everything you listed, what really gets under my skin is the whole "Mom [Last Name]" thing—you know, when people address you at the doctor's office or anywhere else by calling you "Mom" instead of using your actual name? It just feels... off. I have a name, after all; feel free to just call me Mrs. [Last Name] if you must!
As for the moms and grandmas who step up to help out—I am 100% on board with that. I’ll take help from anyone I can, and I don't see anything wrong with it at all. 😁 Why should my partner and I be completely wiped out from exhaustion if grandparents, aunts, or anyone else is willing to lend a hand? 🤷
Honestly, my own brain is driving me up the wall lately—I’m convinced I can tackle a hundred different tasks at once, but the second I actually try, my body hits me with such a brutal reality check that I just have to throw in the towel. The other day, I went out for a walk with a friend and we barely managed to cover a quarter of our usual route—and we were moving at a snail's pace, too—before I just completely hit a wall. Cleaning the house now takes me three whole days, whereas it used to be something I could knock out in a single afternoon.
And lately, what irritates me most of all is hearing people say, "just wait until you see...> "Just wait until you see what being pregnant is really like." "Oh, just wait until you see how hard things *actually* get"—and look, I’m not even complaining (except here on this forum, 😬, because let's face it, it *is* hard 🤷). "Just wait until you see what it's like to never sleep again." "Just wait until you see what it's like when you have zero time for anything except the baby." "Just wait until you see how tough motherhood really is." .......... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
John Wilson9 said:I actually saw one the other day at Walmart and it caught me totally off guard.
The local Walmart near us has them too, though they only have one register open—and wouldn't you know it? It’s never working when I stop by. It was closed today, too.😳
Nathan Kelly said:Everyone keeps telling me I’ve "filled out," which is basically code for saying I have a masculine build now
I can't tell if people are actually trying to be nice or just being blunt, but honestly? They aren't wrong—there is definitely a more masculine energy to my frame these days🙂
I actually wrote a few pages about this before my aunt's mother-in-law even said anything. My uncle: You're carrying a boy, aren't you? Me: Yeah, it's a boy. My uncle: Well, usually women glow more when they have boys, but you don't seem to be glowing at all.
🙂
Was she just trying to insult me, or does she honestly think she knows more than the doctor who confirmed the gender?🤷
Yesterday, the cashier at my local bakery asked me—how much longer do you have left? Me: Two months. Cashier: Oh, and what’s it going to be? Me: I don't know (and honestly, I really didn't feel like getting into a debate with a stranger about my baby's gender) Cashier: Well, it's a boy—I can just tell by the bump!
ironjackal20 I completely get where you're coming from—that's honestly just as frustrating for me. Regarding breastfeeding, our visiting nurse was actually really helpful during our prenatal classes. She mentioned there's a dedicated nutrition and lactation clinic over at the local community health center on Main Street—she suggested we check it out too. Try giving them a call at 555-0123 and ask to speak with Alice.
Oh, Kevin Martinez76 😂 I know your blood pressure was hitting 160, but honestly, I can’t stop laughing at this. It totally takes me back to something that happened just two weeks ago. I dropped by my aunt's place, and her mother-in-law immediately starts hovering on the balcony—just watching everything. She begins grilling me about all sorts of things, and then she drops this: "So, you're carrying a boy, huh? Well, usually boys make women look more beautiful, but I wouldn't say that applies to you." First, I was just stunned—completely speechless—and then I just lost it and started cracking up. 😂
@fadedridge14 🙂 this is just appalling. I mean, where is the common sense? How can anyone say something like that to a pregnant woman waiting in an OB-GYN emergency room? 🙂
I really hope everything turns out perfectly with your CTG and the little one.
Let me share something that actually caught me off guard the other day—in a good way 🙂 The butcher over at my local Safeway in Scottsdale gave me some soup bones for free 😁 Look, I get it—they're just bones, and they barely cost a dime—but it genuinely touched my heart. I guess I just really needed a little bit of kindness right about now 😬
And honestly? It doesn't take much more than that to get me riled up or frustrated 😂 , but let's save that vent for another time
Morgan Kim2 said:My sister was told by one of those visiting nurses that they actually have a breastfeeding support group that meets once a month—and apparently, we're all welcome to join.
Thanks for the heads-up. The topic for our class next week is breastfeeding, so I'll definitely dig for more details then. My nurse told me about a month ago that nothing like that existed here in Cleveland—so maybe things have changed?
Yesterday, my neighbor asked Alexander Chase54 what we’re naming the baby—and I just gave him a polite, firm answer: "I'm not telling anyone anything." 🙄
And then comes the comment from the neighbor—"Why so secretive? I don't like that attitude." Honestly, who asked for his opinion? You pick a name for your kid because you want to, and I'll pick one for mine.
It didn't even rattle me that much.
What really gets under my skin is that here in Cleveland, there isn't a single breastfeeding class to be found—not through home health visits, nor is there any local parenting association or group dedicated to actually educating us expectant mothers. On top of that, it drives me crazy that the local hospital has these ridiculous rules about how far along you have to be to sign up for their classes—but by the time you're actually that far along, they just brush you off because they're "full." Give me a break!
