I’ve been sitting here for the last hour staring at my monitor, just thinking about the sheer velocity of language in our current political climate. It feels like we’ve reached this weird, uncomfortable inflection point where the metaphors we use to describe "the other side" aren't just metaphors anymore. They feel visceral. They feel heavy. And honestly, they feel a little bit dangerous.

I remember back in the day—and I know this might be a massive generational gap, so bear with me—that political disagreements felt like they were about policy, or at least about the *direction* of the country. You could call someone a "warmonger" or a "radical," and while those were sharp words, they still lived within the realm of ideological critique. Now? It feels like the vocabulary has shifted toward the medieval. We’re seeing people use imagery that sounds like it was ripped straight out of a dark fantasy novel or a history textbook about the Middle Ages. There’s this creeping sense of physical extremity in how we talk about our own party members or our opponents.

I’m not even talking about the "opponents" specifically, though that’s a huge part of it. What’s really bothering me is the way this language is being used *internally*. I was reading a thread the other day about how certain factions within a movement are starting to view their own moderate or "establishment" colleagues as existential threats that need to be physically or metaphorically eradicated. It’s one thing to say, "I disagree with your stance on healthcare," but it’s a whole different beast to use language that suggests a person should be treated like a monster or a trophy.

I had a buddy in college who got so deep into certain activist circles that he stopped seeing people as humans and started seeing them as "obstacles" or "symbols of oppression." It was a slippery slope. Once you stop seeing a person as a person with a family and a history, and start seeing them as a symbol that needs to be "dealt with," the guardrails of civil society just... evaporate. It’s a psychological shift that I think a lot of us are experiencing right now, whether we realize it or not. We're being conditioned to use high-octane, violent imagery because it generates engagement and it feels "authentic" to our convictions. But at what cost?

There’s this weird phenomenon where, if you don't use the most extreme language possible, you're accused of being a "sellout" or being "weak." It’s like a race to the bottom of the rhetorical barrel. If you don't describe your political rival in terms of something grotesque or subhuman, are you even "fighting the good fight"? It’s a terrifying standard to live by. It creates this environment where even a slip of the tongue—or a leaked comment from a private meeting—can trigger a massive, polarizing firestorm that has nothing to do with the actual substance of the debate.

I worry about the "normalization" of this. If we spend all our time talking about heads on pikes and monsters in the woods, we lose the ability to actually govern. We lose the ability to sit in a room and say, "I think your economic plan is flawed, but I still recognize your right to exist and participate in this democracy." When the language becomes this visceral, the middle ground doesn't just disappear; it becomes a death zone.

I’m curious to hear what you all think. Do you feel like the language we use to describe political figures has become fundamentally more violent, or is this just the same old vitriol that's always existed, just being amplified by social media and 24-hour news cycles? Where do you personally draw the line between "passionate advocacy" and "dangerous rhetoric"?

Apparently, they don't even ship to the States anymore.

Every single one of my cakes and desserts came from slasica Tom and Anne out in Suburban Chicago, and honestly? They were absolutely incredible.
I had ordered this really complicated cake, but they pulled it off perfectly—it was exactly what I had envisioned,
I mean, I actually lost my mind a little when I saw it because it looked identical to the photo I brought them,
and the taste was just phenomenal; you could tell it was made with real, homemade sponge and creams.

So, just a few days ago, I actually went out and picked up this incredibly cute bat-sleeved shirt over at the Takko Fashion in the CC1 East mall...😁

Thanks Jason Moore63, I’m actually thinking about heading over to the Mana shop. This one you posted looks really nice. I was flipping through their catalog earlier and saw a bunch of dresses too. I know they carry larger sizes because I picked up some t-shirts and a skirt from them last year...

Bella... look, I don't really have much time here. I’m getting married in a month. I already have my wedding dress, but since the ceremony falls on a holiday at the courthouse, we’re doing the actual wedding a day early.
I definitely won't be wearing the gown then—I mean, I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise for my fiancé, and honestly, I can't exactly walk down the aisle in denim jeans...
We just finalized everything a few days ago, right after filing the paperwork at the clerk's office...
So, yeah, I guess I actually do need something nice to wear for the reception... ufff.

bella... thanks, I'll take a look... I was also thinking about checking out some stores at Target... I've managed to find a few decent tops and skirts there before...

kris79... so, something I could actually wear to work every day, maybe, or if we're going out to dinner or attending a wedding...
I don't want to just wear it once for my wedding and then shove it in the back of my closet forever...
Something along these lines, I guess:

God, it’s so frustrating seeing all these photos of gorgeous clothes made for curvy women when you can't even find anything like it in this damn country... 🙂

Ugh, I am so frustrated right now... 🙂

I need to find a light, airy summer dress—nothing too long, just anything that isn't black, since I can't exactly show up to a courthouse wedding looking like I'm heading to a funeral... and obviously, I need it by $167 🙄.
I already wasted my time checking out H&M, C&A, and Takko Fashion... but I couldn't find a single thing in my size. Everything is just way too small. I guess maybe there's something at Nordstrom, New Look, or somewhere else entirely?
HELP!!!

It’s not the same Monica... though I’ve been hearing whispers that she from Ann Arbor has changed a bit lately. Some girls were saying she can be pretty arrogant and difficult to deal with, honestly. I don't know, maybe you should scroll back through the thread,
I was actually looking for some pastries, but they’re way too pricey at about $8.25/each. As for cupcakes, I’m not so sure; it seems like every single bakery has them featured on their websites,
Just find some contact info and send me a photo so we can see what people think, or better yet, just grab a picture and go visit a few places in person to get a feel for them...

Alright, so we've been testing out different pastries over the last few days...

Monika Sesv's Bakery in Annapolis — the pieces were cut a bit too large, I guess. They smell like actual pastries, though, and they're really tasty.
Andrić's Sweets — the cuts were okay, smells good, but the flavor is just... one-note. It’s like everything tastes exactly the same.
Šimić's Sweets — the shapes are perfectly cut, smaller pieces, but there isn't much of an aroma. The taste is fine, I suppose, but nothing really stands out from the rest.
Tom's Cake Shop — these were cut perfectly, smaller bites, look great, and they have that classic pastry scent. You can actually tell there's variety here; the flavors are excellent, and every single one is distinct, which is exactly how it should be.

In the end, we went with Tom's Cake Shop. When it came to the cake, they were the only ones who actually took the time to explain the process to me. We worked out all the details smoothly...

I’ve spotted all sorts of lovely dresses and skirts over at the C&A in the new CC1 East, though I suppose you can find things in other stores too.
Their standard clothing line goes up to a size 18 or 20, but they have plus sizes reaching up to a 28, so there's definitely something there... 😁
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
Every single C&A in the mall districts has a dedicated plus-size section, just like Takko Fashion does...
Even in the new CC1 East location, you'll find plus-size departments at both H&M and C&A...
I actually stopped by Oltre, which I think someone mentioned, but honestly, there isn't nearly as much variety as people make out, and Ulla Popken is just way too expensive!!!

Just come over to our PDF Wedding thread, there’s a whole section covering everything about getting married in the Midwest. I guess the girls there definitely know where you can hunt for dresses that aren't full-on bridal gowns... 😉

Good grief, Arthur Thompson11!!! 😲
Is it actually okay if I just take this? Please? 🙂
My husband is going to absolutely lose his mind if he catches me with this... I don't know, I've changed my mind about it so many times already... 🤦

Edward Mendoza3... I mean, I'm curious too, but we’re actually heading over there soon anyway. So, if nobody else pipes up before then, I guess I'll just report back on what I find out myself... 😉

So, I headed out to Westgate today, and while I was browsing at Victoria's Secret, I stumbled upon this gorgeous 90D balconette bra.
It’s, well, maybe a tiny bit snug right now, but I’ll probably just grab one of those expansion inserts later. I also picked up some silicone wide straps while I was there...
Plus, I ended up grabbing some panties in the matching fabric, so now I actually have a full wedding set ready to go...
Happy, happy, happy...

Just a heads-up for Belli and all my fellow plus-size girls: I saw some absolutely stunning bras over at Target going up to a 110F...
Honestly, seeing them in so many different colors and patterns almost made me lose my mind—I wanted to buy one in every single design, though I managed to restrain myself...
They aren't even that expensive, if I recall correctly, maybe around $80$30... and they had panties, corsets, halter tops... wow...

Angela Martin2, how on earth did you miss this?
I was practically shouting about it from the rooftops at weddings when I first ordered it 😕 so where were you? 😂
Anyway, here’s the one I went with: http://www.morilee.com/bridals/julietta/3112
They’re just going to stitch in some straps made from the same lace as the waist appliqué 😍
The straps are mostly just for show, really—just to hide the bra that actually has to do all the heavy lifting 🙂
Fashion for curvy girls in Fashion ·
Thanks, ladies, but my main concern is whether I can use those clear silicone straps. My wedding dress has these lace straps, so I really need to make sure nothing shows through...

Lorraine, Kris, thanks ladies!!!
As soon as this snow lets up even a little bit, I’m heading out for some hunting.😂
