Everything you need for a California wedding in Weddings ·

I believe you can find everything mentioned over at Offertissim in San Francisco.

As for the plastic containers, I guess you might be able to pick up some reasonably priced ones through The New York Times in Los Angeles, too.

Maybe try a place like Target or perhaps a local craft shop?

You can find them in pretty much any fabric store. I actually spotted some at IKEA just the other day, and they were incredibly cheap! (I know we were talking about California, but just as a random thought, it never would have crossed my mind).
Ribbons and stuff like that are usually in bookstores. Definitely check out The Washington Post.
I keep hearing nothing but glowing reviews about Hotel Meden over in Savannah. They actually have a dedicated wedding hall on-site, too.
I suppose I'm just not sure if that's a bit too far of a drive for you guys...
Which part of California are you from, Andrew Taylor12?

That "😢" thing definitely caught me off guard because we ended up exceeding our guest count by way more than we ever imagined possible. So, I’ve been feeling a little bit... anxious 😁
.
I'm actually aware of that whole setup too. In fact, I was just chatting with some pastry chefs at a trade show yesterday about those Styrofoam cake dummies they use for decoration.
But honestly, those aren't necessary for us at all—they're actually kind of useless, really, since we aren't big on having a massive cake delivered only to deal with the hassle of slicing it and cleaning up the mess afterward. We'd much rather just have a wider variety of sweets; as for serving them, individual portions or little dessert cups would work perfectly fine for us. We don't feel like we need a traditional cake at all.

We did find some vendors offering prices around 8-$$4.75 per piece without any extra decor, but we were most impressed by what we saw at the Grand Marnier bakery. We're currently waiting on an email from them and one other vendor regarding a custom combo of a few small cakes paired with individual desserts, so we should be able to make a final call soon.

Well, I suppose so. Or maybe we don't even need to host three hundred guests. Unless, of course, that's actually a requirement 😢
I have a feeling we might end up with just three people showing up instead. It would be much nicer if folks had the freedom to choose, I guess. It feels more meaningful that way.

That sounds wonderful. I suppose if we try to host around 300 guests like that, we might just be flirting with a light version of bankruptcy 🙄

analogtrucker17, I was wondering if you might be willing to share which bakery you were talking about, if it isn't too much of a secret?

I’ve been thinking that we might want to go with several smaller cakes instead, just to give everyone a bit more variety, or maybe we could even skip the traditional dessert tray altogether and just coordinate with the caterer for a fruit station and a chocolate fountain.

Does anyone have recommendations for bakeries in Washington, D.C.? I’m looking for anything from high-end spots to those cute little local shops, though I'd prefer places that aren't overly hyped up—I think we all know how much some of those famous places tend to overcharge.

Has anyone here actually tried the Grand Marnier bakery?

I happened to spot it while I was out walking down Tratinski the other day. Honestly, all I can say is that they have a lovely storefront and a really charming terrace—though it was quite late on a Sunday, so they had already closed up shop for the night—and the pastries looked absolutely delicious.
Still, I tend to be a bit skeptical when I see such poor ratings online, especially those Facebook reviews.

I can't say I was particularly impressed by what I saw. 🕺

So, I suppose we're looking for more cookie options from Washington, D.C., though maybe not just the most famous big-name spots? I think it would be lovely to find some smaller local bakeries—you know, the kind that make things authentically at home, rather than using all that margarine and... well, making things that just don't look quite right.

Does anyone have some recommendations for Washington, D.C.? I’d really love to find some hidden gems that aren't totally overhyped, since I think I already know all the usual spots like Mac on the corner and things like that 😁
