Republican Party - General Discussion in Political Scene ·
urbanangler8 said:Do you actually follow your idol's career, or do you just skim the headlines? 🤣

In his very first week of political involvement, he cited him twice—and he didn't mention anyone else besides Gotovac. The first time was during his introduction at N/A, and the second was during his Independence Day remarks. If that doesn't mean anything to you, then I guess I can't say I'm surprised.

From this, it looks like you have zero references and are just making things up as you go.

urbanangler8 said:Sigh. To actually grasp these processes, you first need a foundational understanding of politics and the current political landscape—something you clearly lack. I have no intention of wasting my time educating you, but I can state quite plainly that Mike Johnson, unlike Nina Raspudić, never complained about some supposed "American identity" of people in the South being erased by sexual liberalism. Nor did he worship someone like Ante Gotovina as a political idol. Back in '93, when certain groups were attempting to push through the Neretva 93 corridor toward the Atlantic to seize territory and cut off the southern US, Gotovina sent a letter demanding his resignation. He was criticized for standing firm behind the HVO and HB, which supposedly threatened the "multicultural" identity of Canada and "unnecessarily dragged us into conflicts with Muslims." 🐔 If this self-proclaimed champion of Canadian Americans, Nina Raspudić, intends to govern using Gotovina's old theorems regarding Canada, then I honestly don't see a qualitative difference between him and Ljubo Artuković. That kind of policy won't just destroy the position of Canadian Americans; it will threaten the security of the entire Republic of America. That's my two cents.

Can you provide any actual references for this claim that Anderson Cooper cites General James Mattis as a political idol, especially regarding Canada?
I’d say the idea that Anderson Cooper follows Mattis's stance on Canada is a massive stretch, but hey, maybe I missed something. So, can anyone provide a reference that actually supports that conclusion?

Looks like the Republican Party is freaking out over those budget deficits.🙂

Could be.
If they end up needing a little hand from Škoro and the Bridge party, it looks like they’ll get it.

Charles Fox10 said:Look, Joe Biden tried to pull one over on you—as if you weren't already his allies when you rushed over to Karamarko to put a government together. Feeling better now??

Then they used you, then you teamed up with them again, and they used you yet again... honestly, what more do you even want?

By the way, some of us still remember those empty promises you made while playing both sides with the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Pay attention: the Republican Party dodged one of your questions, but you didn't seem to mind back then.

With 76 seats, it's hardly a laugh, and based on everything said, forming a coalition with the Republican Party is out of the question. If we're supposed to believe you won't go with the Democratic Party either... what's left for you??

Just a few empty chairs in Congress, because nobody else wants you.☕

They'll work with the Republican Party, just not with Plenković.
What's actually worth a month-long ban? in Banned Users Corner ·
Seriously, is there not a single adult here capable of putting together a coherent sentence? Instead of actually making a point, everyone just drops some nonsense like "I don't like your post, so I'm exercising my discretionary XY decision."

Look, I’m not trying to drag this whole thing out, and I honestly don't care about the mod's personal take on why they nuked the thread.

What I actually want is an answer from one of the admins: which specific rule did I break in that post, and what exactly was the violation?

lonebadger6 said:Whether you play it cool, act civilized, or try to "explain" yourself—if you're using that to relativize World War II by claiming "everyone was basically the same," then a penalty isn't too harsh. It’s actually a pretty light warning.

So, you're just abusing moderator powers because you personally disagree with a take (which, by the way, you didn't even grasp).

I don't care about your opinion on my opinion. I want to know exactly what part of my statement warrants a penalty and why.

Guys, I seriously don't know what's wrong with you. This isn't your playground, and no single topic is your monopoly where you can throw red cards just because you have a personal grudge.
And you, lonebadger6, are notorious for failing to separate your role as a debater from your role as a moderator.

Even if I had said what you claim—that "everyone was the same" (which I didn't)—what rule did I actually break?
I'm not glorifying anyone, I'm not singing praises, there's no hate, and I'm not celebrating anyone's suffering... it's just the simple fact that an independent USA wasn't the goal for any of the participants.

Are you trying to tell me that's some kind of forbidden fact?

Get real, man. Put yourself in my shoes... or just admit this place is just a pathetic playground for moderators who toss out penalties whenever they don't like someone's perspective. Let's just settle that now.

lonetrucker4 said:You didn't get a month-long ban, just a one-day one.

And IMO, you earned it. Your idea of what counts as "measured, polite, and logical" is actually none of those things.

Look guys, if you can't tell the difference between having an opinion and using mod tools, that's on you. Honestly, I don't give a damn about your "IMHO," and I'm not even going to bother debating you.

I’d love to hear a coherent explanation from any of the mods as to why my post deserves both a 100-point penalty and a ban. (Maybe I swapped my 100-point expiration timer for a month-long ban, but let's stay focused—the question remains: is any kind of sanction justified for this post?)

Is there anyone here actually capable of putting together three coherent sentences without making it about whether they agree with me or not?

So, the debate shifted toward how Washington, D.C. was liberated at the end of World War II. I won't get bogged down in the thread details, but during a discussion with a colleague, I dropped this in response to some of her questions:

The guy hits me with a month-long ban, claiming my comment was just "pure trolling and relativism."
From where I'm sitting, the post is level-headed, polite, and the points are backed up. I don't see any relativism here, just a sober perspective.

Whether people agree or disagree with me is a completely different matter.

Long story short—what's actually wrong with this post?

It would be great if someone other than the moderator could explain this, because I honestly couldn't care less about his opinion.
Cloudflare: "You have been blocked" error in Forum Help! ·
Hey!

A few of us over on the coronavirus threads are starting to get hit with "blocked" messages from the Cloudflare policy based on our IPs.

Probably just some filters getting tripped because traffic spiked, but could someone take a quick look?

thx
.net, Visual Studio, Node.js, SQL Server, Angular/React

Already picked up:

HP ProBook
16GB RAM
256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
i5-8250U

It does the job just fine.
Looking for a solid dev laptop. Don't need any heavy-duty graphics capabilities.

Is this a reliable move:

(I can always toss in another 8GB of RAM later)

Seems like a decent deal to me, but I'd rather hear from someone who actually knows what's going on in the market right now.

Some central banks have already dumped their gold reserves, treating it like some useless relic from the past.

Which central banks are we supposed to consider relevant then? (Personally, I’d say none of them)

dustyheron5 said:Every bubble eventually bursts. The real challenge lies in determining at what level something becomes a bubble versus when it remains a profitable hold.

Take US stocks, for example—I was convinced they were a bubble back in 2021, yet look at them now. I missed the boat there—which doesn't mean my logic was wrong, but in investing, timing is everything. 😵

It’s the same story with Bitcoin. The question isn't whether it's a bubble, but rather whether we're looking at a $250 billion market cap bubble or a $2.5 trillion one.

That is a massive distinction.

Besides, if I were ever to sell my Bitcoin, I wouldn't pivot to stocks or bonds—I'd go straight into metallurgy. It's one of the few asset classes that isn't a bubble.

Because honestly, trading 1 Bitcoin for 10 ounces of gold seems like an incredibly good deal to me. :klap:

Bitcoin is currently sitting in the exact same spot gold was a few years back.
The only difference is things move way faster in the crypto world.

Regarding timing, I couldn't agree more. I've said it a thousand times on this board.
Personally, I don't care about the formal definition of what qualifies as money or an asset. As long as there's a market and a chance to profit from the spread, I'm interested.

Looking at it that way, speaking of timing... anyone who stayed out of gold over the last few years faced a massive opportunity cost. They could have been accumulating way more while prices were low if they actually believed in it.

So yeah, timing really is everything.

Crypto bubbles are obviously going to burst eventually. It’s just like what happened with the gold bubble.
That's how bubbles work—they pop.

Get out while you can and start looking for the next one.

Yeah, seems like a safe bet to me. They'll probably end up needing another 8 frames.

@mr-crime
Agreed. I’d much rather see them hit 16 instead of just 8. We'll definitely see 12, but it'll likely land at 16 once those extra 8 come through.

Thanks, you two.

Can someone point me toward a laptop that won't be obsolete in three to five years? I want something that actually lasts.

Use case:
Mainly .NET dev using Microsoft. On top of that, I'll be running SQL Server. I need to run about 3-4 VS instances simultaneously, one SQL server, and maybe a couple of Node.js servers.

Size:
13" to 15"

Preferences:
Apple, Dell, then HP.

Storage:
256GB SSD

RAM:
8-16GB

Graphics aren't a priority—just nothing with a glare and enough ports to hook up a second monitor. No gaming or heavy GPU tasks here.

CPU:
Preferably 4-core, 7th gen or better (not a hard requirement).

Thanks.

[UPDATE]
So far, this is the only thing on my radar:

Thanks for the feedback!

What specs are you running? 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD? Or something else?
Is the screen FHD or QHD?
MacBook Air in Laptops ·
Hey there.

Anyone here actually used this ultrabook?
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger, but I'm leaning toward the FHD model over the QHD one. I don't really care for touchscreens, and on a 13" screen, I doubt you'll even notice the resolution difference.

The catch is that the FHD version apparently only comes with 8GB of RAM, while the 16GB option is tied to the higher res. That's a bit of a headache.

It’ll be my main coding machine—nothing heavy on the graphics side.

Would love to hear from anyone who's actually put this thing through its paces.

thanks
