I have this little pocket altar—sort of a piece of old-school German folk art—and I’m trying to figure out what I actually have here. Does anyone happen to have a link for a specialized auction house or an appraisal service over in Germany? Or, if any of you collectors here might know, could you give me a ballpark idea of its value?
In terms of dimensions, the piece is about 9.5cm tall and 5cm wide, though it opens up to about 10.5cm. It dates back to the 19th century—traditional German folk art.
It’s happened a few times now where I’ll type something specific into a search engine, only for it to serve up some totally bizarre topics instead. For instance, the last thing I searched for was "swimming pools," but instead of gear or construction, I started getting hit with these weird threads about romance or pregnancy. It’s definitely not what I was looking for.
Could someone please walk me through how to add a link to a post? I’ve been scrolling through some older threads, but I just can't seem to find the instructions anywhere.

you actually have to hit refresh if you want to see any updates..
Well, now I’m certain I wasn't crazy after all. It’s actually pretty smart of William Harris14 to suggest I just add this thread to my Goodreads... thanks for the tip!🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
gentlecanyon92 said:well, once you hit send on your reply, you'll see your own post right there in the thread...
then just scroll back up to the top, click the subforum name in the upper left corner—it's kind of like clicking a breadcrumb trail—and from then on, you'll be able to see all the different categories available...
I'll give that a shot, but I'm wondering—if I leave the subforum page open, will I see updates happening in real-time? Or do I need to navigate away and come back to refresh everything to see what's new?
I’m a little confused by the workflow here—whenever I hit submit on a reply, the page that loads doesn't show my message in an envelope or anything like that. It just forces me to navigate back to the previous page manually. And if I try to use the green back arrow, it just takes me to the exact state the page was in before I clicked "submit," which means I have to redo that whole slow, tedious process all over again.
The first folder icon is open—that's how you know there are new posts (plus the title turns bold), and you've also got that little arrow—the one circled in red—that jumps you straight to the first unread message... The second folder icon is closed, which just means there's nothing new to see there.
Whenever I hit quote to type out a question or an answer, I feel like I’m flying blind—I have no idea if anyone has actually replied to me unless I head all the way back to the main forum index, click through to the thread, and check manually. It feels like such a chore. Is there a quicker way to see if there's a response without having to navigate all the way back to the start?
Since I'm still pretty new here—and I’m sure there are plenty of other newcomers out there too—I was wondering if someone who actually knows the ropes could put together a permanent guide or a "sticky" thread? It would be great to have a breakdown of the basic mechanics: how to upload an image, how to bold a header, the difference between an MS and a PM, or what all those clickable icons actually do. Also, it would be super helpful to decode the local slang—things like "clogging" or whatever abbreviations the old-timers use—and just general stuff like how to drop a link. I can't quite recall all the answers I got when I asked earlier; half of it went over my head, especially once everyone started using shorthand. I really think having a resource like that would help us grow the community and bring in more people. A little "crash course" would go a long way for us "newbies." THANKS!
