PayPal mobile wallet in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Nathan Alvarez92 said:So, I tried to drop about $160 in cash ($377) at a local convenience store tonight, and the lady behind the counter just flat-out told me she couldn't take it—only Euros. Is that actually how it works now? Or is she just being difficult?

You can't top up your PayPal with cash directly anymore... You basically just have to hand over the cash, let them convert it to dollars, and then they load the dollars onto the card.
Chime: My experience so far in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
In Germany, you can actually deposit cash directly onto your card at an ATM. Since I lost my phone—which was linked to my banking app—I needed to update my registered number. They told me the only way to trigger the change was to make a cash deposit at an ATM, regardless of how much I put in, and then wait about 24 hours for the update to process. It sounds a bit nonsensical, but there you go...

Right, I was actually thinking about going with the blue card just to be safe. But what if I headed over to Canada? Would I be able to use any random ATM there for my Mastercard?

Does anyone with a bit of sense know which ATM actually lets you make a deposit into a Chime account? And more importantly, is it even possible to deposit cash at an ATM here in the States?
Federal Reserve - overdraft limits in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I was wondering if you have to submit a formal request to the Federal Reserve to get an overdraft approved, or if it just happens automatically? This is specifically for someone on a fixed retirement income...

Quick little update: about 24 hours later, I finally got an email saying my account had been wiped and that I could just reinstall the app with my preferred settings. I went ahead and reinstalled everything, which included a quick video chat with a support agent. The whole process took maybe ten minutes total. Everything is up and running now, and my account is officially active again.

Yeah, I am, but now it won't accept my zip code😵I tried using an American one and even a German one, but nothing works. I already sent an email over to customer support🙄

A while back, I opened an account with Chime, but I never actually ended up using it. Now, I can't for the life of me remember any of my login details or passwords... It's all a bit of a blur. If I wanted to reactivate the account and finally start using it, what would be the best way to go about that?
Is a hunger strike legal? in Law ·
As a mother, your primary focus should be on what’s best for your child—identifying potential risks and handling them as smoothly as possible. Obsessing over legal battles, overreacting, or using threats of self-harm isn't how you act when you're truly prioritizing a kid's well-being. I know plenty of single moms, and I’ve been in those shoes myself, but I was never under investigation by the American Statistical Association. Honestly, I'm wondering what led you to end up under their supervision and in this kind of conflict with the agency in the first place...
Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
crimsonranger3 said:If my quarantine lasts until the 18th, does that mean I can head out on the 18th, or am I stuck inside that day too?

The system doesn't clear you until the 19th. Also, if you happen to get pulled over, the police will see in their database that you're officially under quarantine orders...
In an effort to limit infection risks, you’ve got fifty people crowded into a tiny parking lot meant for maybe five cars... all without masks or gloves. If stores were operating normally, you’d never see this many people trying to shop at once. But apparently, the priority is strictly adjusting store hours, while everyone is essentially forced into one single Walmart because of those permit restrictions
Religion classes in school - Megathread in Students & Teens ·
From what I’ve gathered through my own experience, taking religious education classes in school isn't actually a requirement for receiving the sacraments... All those stories about priests or teachers making it a condition? That's mostly just noise for people following the herd. It seems like they just don't want to take a moment to look into the facts themselves...

Lawrence Torres56 said:Great, so if we all know that, why on earth are these political nebulas trying to mess with the lives of kids who have absolutely nothing to do with this?
And who exactly is "shifting" their duty of religious upbringing onto schools? As far as I can tell, taking religion classes in school has zero connection to practicing faith in a church... the whole point of religious studies in school is just to learn about the faith, right? It doesn't mean someone automatically becomes a believer just because their kid sits through a class... it's just like how math class is about learning mathematics, not an indication that everyone is a mathematician...
Also, it's not like everyone needs to be working at Walmart to lack the time for Sunday service... nowadays, a massive chunk of people are grinding from Monday to Friday... and the only thing they have left is that weekend which only lasts 48 hours... are they going to go to church, or hit the movies, or visit a museum, take a walk through town, or just stay in bed and veg out? That's their choice, isn't it? And since when do we have the right to stick our noses in, to judge? Why is there even this desperate need to meddle in other people's business and try to dictate what they should be doing🤷?

Cutting two hours of religion a week from the schedule and replacing it with three hours of computer science doesn't mean kids will have less to study... in religion class, you aren't really expected to memorize things for tests, whereas in computer science, rote memorization is practically mandatory... so, are we actually lightening their load here, or just piling more on them?

*If we cut those two hours of religious studies, maybe Tuesday and Friday schedules could drop from six-hour days to five-hour days. That would prevent some kids from sitting in the hallway for an hour, and they'd get home earlier to finish homework, play, or read...

Look, we all know religious studies ended up in the school curriculum as a political compromise with the government. It’s common knowledge. I personally took my religion classes at church, and honestly, I didn't miss having them at school one bit... I already had plenty of other subjects and homework to deal with. And frankly, there's a whole different conversation to be had about how some parents get incredibly lazy, basically outsourcing their responsibility for religious upbringing to the school system. You only have to look at the percentage of parents who actually attend service with their kids on a regular Sunday—not just on Christmas or Easter—to see what I mean. And let’s be real, not everyone is working shifts at Walmart that force them to work on a "holy" Sunday. The core question in this PDF remains the same: why does religious studies get such preferential treatment compared to other elective courses, where kids actually have to trek across town to a different campus just to attend? ;-)

Jacob Lewis5 said:I honestly don't get it. I don't see any "dominance," any special privileges, or anyone getting a leg up at someone else's expense. What's this talk about different rights or better treatment? If the rules are actually the same for everyone and nobody is being forced into anything, then there’s no issue here. Period.

Look, believers aren't losing a thing by keeping religious education in schools. I’m a regular at my local church myself, and honestly, what's the harm?
So, here’s my take on this one: Who would actually lose out if religious education stays in public schools? Honestly, I think the biggest loser would be the students themselves. It’s not even about whether you believe in God or not—it’s about the conversation. If we strip that out, we’re basically cutting out a massive chunk of history, art, and culture that shaped how people think and act. You can't really understand Western civilization without understanding the stuff that drove it. I remember back in high school, even though my family wasn't exactly "church-going," those classes gave us a window into why certain traditions exist and how they influence everything from politics to literature. Without it, school starts feeling a bit more like a sterile factory and less like a place where you actually learn how the world works. It’s a loss for critical thinking, too. Being able to engage with different belief systems—even just academically—helps kids develop some perspective. Take it away, and you're just narrowing the scope of what they're allowed to ponder. To me, that feels like a step backward for a well-rounded education.

Well, I figured I’d weigh in too. You lose about two hours a week per classroom when you factor in subjects like math or English... not to mention that time could be used for something like computer science, which is also an elective, right? I’m just glad my kid doesn't spend those hours wandering the halls since their class has religion as the very first or last period, but I know some families aren't as lucky. This year, we had a first-grade class with 21 students, and 14 of them chose NOT to take the religion course. And no, they didn't move the class to accommodate the majority; it stayed right in the middle of the schedule. So much for equality, I guess... It would have been easier if those seven kids could just switch to the other school shift, but of course, that's not how it works...

Sarah Morris57 said:Look, I seriously had to ask this lady over at Chase three different times just to get a straight answer out of her.
Most people would’ve just taken what she said the first time around—and honestly, I almost did—but then you realize she was totally dodging the point! She wasn't exactly lying, per se... she was just doing that thing where you dance around the truth to avoid being direct, you know?

It’s almost exactly like when my kid tells me, "I didn't lie, I just didn't tell you everything."🤣

I stopped by my local Chase branch yesterday after being away for quite a while, and my personal banker immediately slid some questionnaire over to me that we "had" to fill out together🙂 I wasn't really in the mood for paperwork, though, so when he started lecturing me about how this was all part of standard anti-money laundering protocols or whatever🤔 anyway, when he got to the question about my marital status, I just looked at him and asked: so, are you asking me out on a date??? The poor guy looked so confused he just gave up on the whole thing... guess it's my fault...
