The start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1) in War in Ukraine ·

More of them came back home than were even sent over there in the first place. 🤣
They basically just cloned themselves on the way.

Looks like Canada isn't trying to pull a Mexico here—they’re basically saying they'll do whatever they want, no questions asked. They really need to pick a side. You're either in or you're out, right?

According to The Guardian, Canadian PM Viktor Orbán claims he's going to back every single EU sanction against Russia and won't be blocking anything.

Rachel Allen55 said:Sanctioning Russia just makes them feel even more independent from everyone else. What are you even going to have left to use for sanctions next time?

Everything needs balance. Even this whole situation is a delicate balancing act. Do people honestly think Americans are ready to start seeing layoffs because of these sanctions? First, it’ll be direct hits on companies doing business with Russia, and then it spirals—indirectly, then again indirectly—as businesses in other countries shut down, eventually triggering a massive crisis within the West.

And don't even get me started on the refugee issue. You'll end up with representatives in government who will have plenty to say, much like the folks in Denmark, whether it's the New Citizenry types or that nutjob Paludan. If you could hear their ideologies... they spout all this nonsense about Aryan races and claiming you're only "true" American if your family tree is 80% local heritage, counting grandparents and all that.

Am I really supposed to want a lunatic or a party like that sitting in our Parliament just because of Ukraine? To me, Ukraine isn't worth that much; it's an oligarchic state where a handful of people run the show, corruption is everywhere, and they still have some glaring questions left over from the USSR era that haven't been cleared up.

If nationalism starts taking over in the West, both the EU and NATO are toast. You wouldn't find two countries within the EU that could actually agree on anything. And all of this just for Ukraine?

What has Ukraine actually contributed to Western prosperity? Seriously, what? Nothing.

Keep dreaming. In Russia, "the good life" is basically restricted to big hubs like Moscow or St. Petersburg... mostly because that’s where the elite lives—the crowd making all the bank off oil sales. The rest of Russia? They're totally screwed. We're talking zero infrastructure, bad roads, nothing. People out there are just scraping by like it's the Stone Age.

If America and Europe actually isolate Russia, that Russian elite won't be able to get into Europe anymore, and honestly, that's what's going to sting the most. They absolutely love their European lifestyle.

Finally, Germany is actually stepping up and sending something that matters. We're talking rocket launchers heading to Ukraine.

it’s actually the brilliant minds in the garages of democratic nations who are truly inventing tools to improve life, producing incredible music, and making great films.

In China and Russia, you can only do exactly what they tell you to do. Period.

bluerider63 said:Zelenskyy’s latest video is all about Ukraine joining the European Union, which honestly makes me wonder if he stumbled into the presidency by accident or if he’s just completely detached from reality regarding the actual odds of that happening given how things look right now. I’m leaning toward the latter, mostly because I’ve got this nagging fear that he actually thought NATO was going to step in and fight his battles for him instead of just sending supplies.

Look, NATO isn't going to go to war for Ukraine, period. They'll keep sending hardware and gear, sure, but they said the exact same thing before the invasion started and they're saying it again now.

And as for joining the EU? That takes forever. It’s not like you can just walk up to a bank teller and buy a ticket.

Honestly, they probably won't even be able to use them today since it's already pitch black out. Fingers crossed that some more military aid from the European Union rolls in by tomorrow morning.

What’s the hold-up on bringing back the death penalty? We've had this moratorium hanging around for ages, yet there's still massive support for reinstating it. Why the hesitation?

It’s just horrific. Honestly, unthinkable. How can anyone think it's okay for a projectile to hit an apartment building?

Oh, sure. Especially since they’re just so incredibly "precise," according to the Russians. 🤣
If it were actually a military target, they'd be hitting it from the other side—assuming there weren't buildings in the way, of course.

Laura Scott7 said:Honestly, it’s just a bunch of cowards from these paramilitary groups and extremists who have all retreated into the cities, basically using regular people as human shields because they know damn well that Russia Putin isn't going to go dropping airstrikes on urban centers with civilians everywhere. I mean, if there are really as many of them as they claim to be, why aren't they out there fighting on the front lines instead of hiding behind families and apartment buildings?

Are you actually being serious with this comment? 🤦

Frank Nguyen37 said:So, if that Russian convoy...🤦

Can we please—just for once—use a little logic before venting like this? These clips are from yesterday, and we're looking at a Ukrainian column. Does anyone seriously believe the Russians are just cruising in convoys down highways without having 100% air superiority in the area? Are people actually suggesting the Russian military is just some pathetic group of armed idiots??? Look, if you're going to passionately root for one side (personally, I just want this war over immediately—I don't care how—so bear with me), at least try to be somewhat rational and objective. Don't just swallow every bit of war propaganda that comes your way.

And you clearly have no idea how artillery works. 🤦

The guy’s been leading one of the three biggest powers on the planet for 22 years, but hey, you forum experts clearly know way more than he does.

Russia’s been under sanctions for years now. They’re completely self-sufficient in every sense of the word. Period.

Honestly? The world needs Russia, not Russia needing the world.

Yeah? And?

You really think that would do anything to Russia?

Infrastructure-wise? Russia has everything built with total redundancy. They've got backups for their backups. Always.

Well, why don't you just pack your bags and move to Russia then, since you clearly love and respect them so much.

The US is sending troops to Germany and shipping out machine guns to Kyiv.

The US is deploying troops to Germany as part of NATO reinforcement and sending machine guns to Kyiv, all while Russia pounded targets in Ukraine with artillery and cruise missiles for a third day

Russia claims they're only hitting military targets. Well, sure, if you consider the entire city of Kyiv a legitimate military target.

just another missile slamming into an apartment building.

So, the Canadian government decided this past Saturday to shut down their airspace to any Russian planes because of the invasion of Ukraine. On top of that, they’re dropping 100,000 euros on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help with humanitarian aid over there, according to their foreign ministry.

Think the US will follow suit soon?
