Just give the USGS a call and ask them...😉 If you're filing everything through the mobile app, you don't even really need to manually enter the Social Security number, as the application processes just fine without it...😉
As for the Medicare app, it constantly throws up those security warnings, but honestly, you should just ignore the alert and log in anyway...

You can actually get a confirmation right away stating that the cancellation request has been submitted and is just sitting there waiting to be processed. Things are a bit hectic at the moment, so it might take an additional two or three days before they officially wrap everything up...
From my experience, you can honestly just select "other"—it doesn't really matter to them. I usually list that my contract ended, but I've selected "other" a few times before without any issues. I mean, nobody ever questioned me about it, and frankly, I didn't want to specify that I was let go due to workplace policy violations... especially since I know that if someone is fired for reasons they caused themselves—or if they were laid off because of something the company did 🤔—they wouldn't be eligible for unemployment benefits through the state agency ...

The thing eating at me is my boss plans to file my paperwork this Monday, but I don't have my diploma on me—it's sitting at home. If he lists me under a Bachelor's degree on the VSS, but there’s no record of it yet in the system (like with the FDA or the IRS or Medicare), is that going to be an issue?
Basically, if he writes down that I have a Bachelor's, but they haven't updated my status from having just a High School Diploma (from the SSA) yet, is that allowed? Or am I supposed to hand over the actual diploma first (which I can't do until next week when I get back home) before he's legally allowed to list me as a college grad?
Or is this all just typical bureaucracy where nobody actually knows anything, they just copy-paste whatever is in front of them and don't give a damn? I called the FDA and they seemed like they couldn't be bothered to talk to anyone. Some lady told me it doesn't matter what he puts down and to just bring the papers whenever I can, but I'm still tripping because I don't want to put anyone in a tight spot :/
If he's filing everything electronically, there is a chance the registration could be rejected since they won't have your degree on record yet. He should just give it a shot and see how it goes...

Arthur Bishop6, I’m actually dealing with a very similar situation with a few of my clients. My plan is to transition everything over to the digital portal once that becomes available... Up until this point, I’ve just been bringing in hand-filled paperwork to Medicare, where they would simply stamp and sign everything for me. They also made it quite clear that I absolutely have to bring in physical copies for anyone who isn't set up on the digital system yet, just so the employees have official proof that their coverage has been terminated 🤷
I honestly have no idea how he managed to get himself registered; you’d think they would have flagged that he was already in the system somewhere... I actually know of someone who ran into this exact issue where they couldn't sign up because their registration was already active. In my own experience, I had to de-register a few people a month ago just to re-enroll them due to some changes in our headquarters, and not a single soul reached out to me or even asked for clarification on why that happened. It seems like they can barely keep up with processing basic applications at that speed, so I highly doubt anyone is going to come after you for an oversight like that...
If you have a more recent certificate issued under your Social Security number, you should be able to handle the registration online through the NOAA portal quite easily. If not, you’ll just need to print out the necessary forms from their website and bring them down to the Social Security Administration office...
The same goes for your health insurance coverage; just fill out the required paperwork and drop it off at the local agency. I’ve heard the wait times can be pretty brutal, at least based on my experience around here...
As far as Medicare goes, I just handled the deregistration and nothing else... regarding HZZO, I honestly wouldn't know, since I don't actually use those services myself.
I remember asking at the Social Security Administration once, and they basically told me that specific data point wasn't really their concern since they track everything through individual Social Security numbers rather than... Now, mind you, that was probably three or four years ago, so it might be worth checking in with them again just to be sure...
