Spring blues in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hello everyone.

I haven't been active on this forum lately, but I would like you to leave this thread up if it complies with the other posting rules. If this topic doesn't fit this subforum, feel free to move it elsewhere.

As the title suggests, I struggle with spring depression. At 27 years old, I am finally ready to admit this and start addressing it.

Unlike most people with seasonal issues who suffer during autumn, winter, or the holidays, I don't experience that. For me, this depression starts creeping in around February—as soon as the days get longer—then intensifies through mid-to-late April before tapering off by June.

Ever since the 5th grade, I’ve felt the changing weather and longer days starting to "suffocate" me. It creates this constant restlessness and kills my concentration while studying. The afternoons are the worst—from about 2:00 or 3:00 PM until dusk. Just endless restlessness. Depression mixed with anxiety. A sense of aimlessness. Emptiness. Sometimes even a sense of dread.

During this time of year, I often feel like spring is physically tearing me apart. Days were only tolerable if it was raining. Rarely did a spring day pass without me feeling like absolute shit. During my school years, I tried to drown out these horrible feelings by burying myself in work and obligations, though they remained present.

Over the last three years, this period has been more manageable than before (when I lived at home), and during this past year (2022), working helped me realize I handle spring better now than I did during my education. However, that mindset—that difficulty with this specific season—is still there. It remains hard, even if it has weakened slightly over the last three years.
I have always remained functional during this time, just 2-3 times less productive than I am during the winter.

My questions for you all are:
Do you experience similar issues? (I would prefer we focus specifically on spring moods rather than generalizing or discussing other seasons).
How do you cope?
What are the potential causes?
Is there any professional literature on this?
Have you managed to overcome, or attempted to overcome, this period?

Just today, seeing people relaxing and hanging out in Central Park served as a blunt reminder that this spring depression is here, and it is present.

Thank you in advance for your kind and constructive responses.

Hey everyone.
Checking in here looking for some new connections (guys and girls both welcome).
Male, 24, based in Washington, D.C.
Student, working part-time. Old friendships faded out; time to move on.
I believe in God. I’m Christian, but I respect all faiths, which is why my closest friends actually happen to be agnostic.
Identity doesn't matter to me. Character does. Kindness, intelligence, and honesty are what count. Shared interests and a sense of humor are huge bonuses.
I'm social. I can talk about anything. Not much of a sports guy or a gamer, though I don't mind listening to you talk about them. I enjoy running, swimming, hiking, hitting the gym, going out at night, and long coffee dates. I value people who can actually defend their arguments.
Reach out.

Greetings everyone.
I am here looking for friendship (men and women both welcome).
Male, 24, living in NYC.
Student, working occasionally. Old friendships have faded; time to move on.

Folks, am I actually accepted by society?

Hey,

Looking for people to hang out with, grab coffee, or just meet up in person. I’m not really into endless texting back and forth, so if you're too shy to actually meet up, don't bother. No mental health diagnosis here, but I have zero issues with those who do. I'm 23, living in Chicago, a student, and working part-time. Hit me up 🙂

Don't bother coming back home if it doesn't actually make you happy.

Not from that neck of the woods. I'm a New Yorker. That whole circus is still running just fine.
US-EU Rift in World ·
It was designed specifically to make mass manipulation easier, turning society into a commodity to be exploited at will. Brainwashing becomes effortless, bad laws get pushed through, people get drafted into wars, families are torn apart, and the public gets poisoned... how is this still not obvious to anyone?

The EU is nothing more than a tool for the devil. It would be better if it just collapsed.

Parents need to realize how much teachers struggle. They know firsthand just how broken the school system is, while parents often remain blissfully unaware.

Hey everyone. I’m laying out what I’m looking for here, though you don't need to be a perfect match. I want people who are witty—give me cynicism, sarcasm, dark humor, whatever works—so we can talk about everything under the sun (no taboos, fine by me). I want someone to dive into intellectual topics with, while still being able to shoot the breeze, banter, or even bicker. I also value having someone to confide in, and being there for them too. I haven't been diagnosed with anything, but I’ve been through hell, so I get it. I’m into coffee shops, clubs, house parties, hiking, you name it. For hobbies, I run, swim, and hit the gym occasionally. I’m 22 and a student. Age, status, identity—none of that matters to me. Just respect different opinions. Honestly, I’ve burned bridges and ruined good friendships before; I'm no saint, but you have to keep moving forward. Hit me up if you're interested. I'm not a fan of endless texting. Based in Chicago. Gender doesn't matter.
