Why go looking for trouble where there isn't any? 🙂 😁

Now that I'm looking at the scores, is it just me, or is Zachary Booth36 actually terrified of my massive talent and worried I might actually catch up to him? 😁

Argentina shuts out Saudi Arabia with a 2-0 win.
Denmark crushed it against Tunisia with a 3-1 win.
Mexico vs. Poland ends in a 1-1 draw.
France absolutely dismantled Australia with a 3-0 win, and honestly, you have to wonder if there was any chance for the Aussies at all once that first goal went in?

What's the point of required reading? in Students & Teens ·
I was specifically talking about enrollment and those extra activities you do with the kids, and honestly, the sheer amount of effort you put in—which is really commendable...
It seems like anything I say gets twisted into some kind of personal attack or criticism. My first post was just my take on the required reading list, and I figured I had every right to share my opinion just like anyone else here. Sure, these assignments are meant to spark creativity, but is a kid actually going to fall in love with literature because they have to complete a worksheet? Not really. The whole point of reading is the act of reading itself, not the busywork that follows. I’ve always been a huge reader, even though I absolutely detested writing book reports or doing those "creative" projects back in school. Did that stop me from reading? Of course not. It's just like how someone isn't going to become a book lover just because they were forced to draw a picture for a storybook.
I wasn't attacking anyone, nor was I trying to be difficult. After that, things just devolved into this endless bickering and petty jabs—I'll never quite understand why people communicate this way.
And look, I'm not claiming to be a better or worse parent than anyone else based on what I do or don't do, and my kid isn't superior or inferior to anyone else's just because of how they're performing in school...

hiddendriver34 said:It just hit me that my students also have to put together a book report poster once a year. 😁 They actually get graded on them, which counts toward their final mark. But honestly? I’m not grading them on how much artistic talent they have; I’m looking at the concept behind the work. You would be genuinely shocked by the kind of wild, out-of-the-box ideas these kids come up with.
My class loves to go all out with acting, too. One time, I even managed to trick the school administration into ordering a massive pile of props, wigs, and costumes for us.

I think it all really boils down to the teacher. For those first two years in after-school care, they had this incredible teacher that they absolutely adored. They were constantly putting on plays, building little hotels, filming movies—you name it. Then she went on maternity leave and they got a substitute, and the difference was night and day.
I’m seeing something similar with my little one in preschool—we moved him to a different group this year and the change is just as obvious. I was actually terrified we were making a mistake, but in this case, I'm relieved we took the leap. My main worry now is how he'll handle elementary school since he's struggled before, especially with his fine motor skills, and hearing people say that if a kid can't use scissors by a certain age there's nothing more to be done... well, that isn't exactly comforting.

I was thinking about grabbing a bite to eat, but I have a feeling there might not be anything in the kitchen right now. 🤣

I wonder if he’s finally found his footing now that he’s turned his required reading list into a "pizza menu." Did that actually help him wrap his head around the material, or was it just a fun way to pass the time?

Here is a shot of his "pizza literature" 🙂

Mind you, it was just a short story, so I'm not overly concerned about that part 😁

We went to borrow the six-fold umbrella today, and the second he saw how many pages were in the book, the complaining started immediately 😁 I honestly don't know if this is just a standard issue for kids his age, but his ability to focus while reading is absolutely catastrophic—he’s constantly getting up for water, running to the bathroom, asking me random questions—it's just exhausting 🤦 😁 Honestly, watching him try to read is about as riveting as watching me sit through an Olympic curling match 🤣

It’s simply because he wanted everything divided into equal parts, since that just looks cleaner that way. 😁 Back then, we were learning how to work alongside a carpenter, and he just thought it would be a fun little project for us. 🤷

In my earlier posts, I mentioned that I don't hover over him like a hawk, mainly because I don't see the point in coddling him or getting him used to me doing all his high school assignments for him. It’s exactly for the reasons you pointed out—what on earth is he going to do when he hits those upperclassman years?

So I guess we just wandered straight into a classroom full of parents who think they’re basically geniuses 🤷

That whole bit about the "study sessions" cracked me up—there was this one dad telling us how he spent all night drilling his kid just so she'd get an A, only for her to end up with a B-. Honestly, we all just absolutely roasted him for that one 🤣

I’m mostly just hovering over my kid’s shoulder, checking everything he actually read and what he’s planning to write down, because after he finished that first hundred-page book last year, the poor kid was just completely lost in space 😁 I know for a fact that when we were tackling that math assignment involving pizza slices last year, it actually helped him figure out how to divide things into equal parts 😁

From what I can gather, between our teacher's input and the exam being scheduled for the same day they have to turn in their reading assignments—plus that introductory period Sarah Hall53 mentioned—it sounds pretty busy.
