Disclaimer upfront—I know how this marketplace works. 😁 If I decide to take the risk, is this monitor actually any good?
I do some gaming here and there, plus a bit of photo/video editing. But neither is really my main focus. Most of my time is spent staring at documents and writing—usually having Word open alongside one or two windows showing my sources (I'm a historian). Because of that, I’m looking for either a 34" ultrawide or a dual 27" setup. And all of this needs to be under $450. 🙂
Right now, I'm making do with an ancient 22" and a 19" pivot setup. It works, I guess, but it's definitely time for an upgrade. 🙂
And do you even need color printing? Check my advice above—I’m pretty stoked with my printer/copier setup, I've already run hundreds of pages through it just this past week. 😁 Laser printers don't deal with those kinds of issues when they aren't used constantly...
Since we're talking laser mini-copiers—HP vs. Samsung vs. Brother? How does the competition actually stack up regarding print quality, service availability, and how easy it is to find replacement toner? Right now, the HP m125nw is leading the pack for me; I’d rather grab that one because of the Wi-Fi instead of the 125a. I tend to print from several different devices, so that’s a huge plus (and honestly, models without Wi-Fi are basically becoming relics anyway). But I noticed Samsung and Brother have units with similar specs at almost the exact same price point, so I don't want to just jump at the first thing I see!
Thanks a ton, guys—really digging this recommendation 👍 Believe it or not, I’ve actually had my eye on this one for a while, though I don't have any hands-on experience with it. I guess I have a bit of a bias against HP since their ink cartridges basically bled me dry on my current setup 👎 As for the price, it’s just right—enough to make me wait until my next paycheck rather than grabbing it now. I'm pretty sure it'll be worth the investment! Thanks again 🙂
I need a budget-friendly printer that can handle copying—ideally without needing my computer turned on. I’m a teacher, so I’m constantly printing handouts for students, though print quality isn't my top priority. It'll be used regularly—except during the summer break 😬—so I'm not worried about longevity; I just want the hardware and the ink to be as cheap as possible. My current HP f2420 is acting up mechanically, and the ink costs are killing me, so I’m done messing around with it.
This one looks perfect price-wise, but I assume there's a catch for it being so low?
Is it actually worth splurging a bit more on something like this:
Open to a third option if you guys have any suggestions. 🙂
Just a little trolling here, but I actually like learning things—so let me ask you guys—is there any real difference between different brands making the exact same GPU models, or are the differences negligible? I see that mellowtiger83 claims the 750 ti is faster, but according to hwcompare, it isn't, so that's why I'm asking. Also, how much weight should I give to sites like that? I know they're just looking at theoretical specs and real-world results can vary, but is the "theory" itself even accurate or verified?
Let me throw one more question your way 😁 Why wouldn't I just go with the GTX 750 Ti? From what I can see, the power draw difference is negligible. Right now I'm at 50W, the GTX 750 is 55W, and the GTX 750 Ti sits at 60W. I guess my current cooling setup could probably handle that card for a while. Looking at hwcompare, there isn't much of a gap, but if I decide to jump to a completely new build in a few years—which isn't out of the question, given my budget-conscious mindset—I think I could flip this combo much faster and easier. Most people—a bunch of amateurs like myself who don't look past the GB count 😬—would probably buy it anyway.
Are you guys suggesting the cheaper version because it’s just not worth paying the extra $67 for the pricier one?
Look, I’ll apologize in advance if the mods decide to troll me for this—but honestly, for that kind of money, you should probably just buy your buddy a whole new power supply and a GPU instead. 😬
I need to tally up all my expenses from lately to see if this actually fits into my budget at all 🙂 I guess I was a bit daydreaming about how games would run with a setup like that—it'd definitely buy me some peace of mind for a while 😁
Thanks a lot for taking the time; you guys are great on this sub 🙂
THG, you've got a point, but given the circumstances, this build was basically the only one that could be "partially sponsored"—plus it cost me less than $350, so I'm not complaining 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions—I'll probably just grab the GTX 750 🙂 $350 is a bit much for me right now anyway; I'm not sure I could stretch past $250 for both the PSU and the GPU 😢 But I'll think about it—that budget isn't totally off the table 👍
