Germany pulls in about 66 billion dollars a year from gas sales alone, and another 106 billion from oil.
The word is Germany plans to stop importing oil this year and cut off the gas by 2024—at least, that's the official plan.
Best regards,
Fair enough, but they're only selling gas to the EU. Which specific year does that 66 billion figure cover? What was the total back in 2021 versus what we're looking at for 2022? If it ends up being more than 172 billion, then those sanctions didn't actually do squat.
If it were up to me—even though I rely on gas for heat—I'd say shut it all down immediately. Prices are going up regardless.

So why the hell is gas getting more expensive then?
These sanctions are a joke. The EU is basically banning everything except gas, which just means we'll end up paying a premium for it while Russia keeps enough cash flow to sell their resources elsewhere without breaking a sweat.
But hey, if they want to play dress-up, let them.
Natural gas isn't even the main issue here. Between expanding LNG terminals in places like Cleveland and ramping up storage capacity—not to mention diversifying our energy mix with both renewables and traditional sources—we’ll be hitting 80% of Europe's gas needs without Russia by next winter. The only real headache right now is the price tag. If this conflict (or just the constant tension) drags on, we could hit 100% coverage within two or three years, all while seeing those "new normal" prices cut in half. Don't hold your breath for those old, record-low prices ever coming back, especially with inflation where it is.
The bigger headache is going to be the major export companies. Especially those high-end luxury brands pulling in massive margins.
The Ministry of Truth and propaganda is coming for us at every turn.
Then some tourist wanders in, tosses a tennis ball your way, and suddenly you're right back at square one.
The Brits have started screaming that their lockdown isn't doing squat. Imagine the chaos if they just threw in the towel and said, "screw it, let's go."
We need to find a model that doesn't completely wreck society. Right now, it looks like the Swedish and Canadian approaches are leading the pack. Because honestly, at the end of the day, everyone's going to end up with some excess mortality somewhere. The only real question is how long they can stretch that out.
Isn't the whole point of a company to make money for its owners?
Private firms chase profit; public companies are supposed to serve the common good.
Anything else is just nonsense.
This guy is just trolling.
But honestly, you see plenty of people with this exact mindset hanging around local youth rallies for various political parties.
Working 200 hours a month for $1500 versus 172 hours for $2,600.
A decent two-bedroom apartment with utilities will run you about $1000 in Washington, D.C., or maybe Chicago, Miami, or San Francisco. Meanwhile, a nice two-bedroom in Frankfurt or its surrounding cities is around $950.
Man, that was a brutal call to make..
