Even before hiring private security, the San Francisco City Code Enforcement team started enforcing the decision on public order and peace. Yesterday, they issued the first 13 tickets for drinking in the historic downtown area, which are $300 each (or $150 if you pay within three days).

The authority given to city code enforcement was expanded quite a few years ago, ☕
but I suppose you really need to know the laws inside and out. 🍿

Even though the building was legalized via a valid decision on July 2, 2020, under the Building Code Enforcement Act at the request of Ivan Relata, that same Act doesn't actually transfer ownership of the building or the land it sits on.
In other words, anyone could have filed the request to legalize it, but that doesn't make them the owner.

I suppose some of you might remember how kids used to drink water from garden hoses after playing ball or running around outside. In the summer, when that hose would sit in the sun, the water would get warm and have that awful plastic taste, but I guess nobody really cared when they were thirsty. The only real alternative was asking for a glass of water at a cafe, because heading home was rarely an option. You never knew if someone would try to keep you there, so it didn't seem worth the risk.

I guess this is what happens when someone who isn't tied to a political party holds a position—they actually have to perform, since there's no safety net if they fail. Back when the Republican Party and himself were in power, you wouldn't even know the director's name, let alone ever see him.

And on top of that, we have this:

I think we really ought to consider forming more natural electoral districts. We could probably divide America into five or six distinct regions. The whole of Florida should be one district, the Midwest another, and Washington, D.C. would obviously be its own thing... Once we actually take power, we won't just be looking at changing electoral boundaries; we intend to finally push through a full reform of regional and local self-governance. We need to decentralize the nation, move away from the county system, and implement a regional model where 556 municipalities and cities are grouped into about 120 urban hubs, which would then oversee the smaller towns they naturally gravitate toward. The current setup just isn't functional or sustainable.

Progress and major projects move far too slowly because of endless administrative red tape. Personally, my biggest frustration is having to ask the federal government for permission regarding every tiny detail. We are easily one of the most centralized nations in the Western world. For instance, the City of San Francisco doesn't even control a third of its own territory because it’s tied up in county or state ownership. It’s frankly unacceptable. The government owns various properties within San Francisco, yet the laws are structured such that it takes an eternity to get anything done. Then there are the unresolved property rights, the incredibly sluggish courts, and the sheer number of bottlenecks stifling the city's growth. We need to overhaul both the federal bureaucracy and the legal framework to simplify procedures and formalities. It is absolutely vital that all federally owned real estate be transferred back to the municipalities and cities where it's located, so we don't have to go begging the administration for every little local project.

If we can just get the Republican Party away from public funds for two election cycles, I guess we might actually solve the biggest engine of corruption and crime in the country.

If that qualifies as a doctoral thesis, then I don't see why a paper analyzing the statistics of material mentions in the Bible is suddenly considered unacceptable...
