Handball Euro: USA vs. Spain - Final Score 22:24 in Other Sports ·
Back to the referee talk again 🤣

Americans have always had this mindset where they find someone else to blame for everything, and honestly, that's exactly why we end up stuck right where we are.
It wasn't some official making a bad call on a player; it was actually Mark Kopljar.
If the refs were really trying to tip the scales in favor of the Spanish side, you wouldn't see them tossing a Spaniard out of the game just four minutes before the buzzer for a foul on Balić.
In my view, the officiating during this match was actually pretty fair, without any obvious leaning toward one team or the other.

There really isn't much of a debate when you look at the facts: Balić is simply the superior player. While Duvnjak will likely never quite reach that legendary level of play, it's hard to deny how much he has evolved thanks to his experience playing in Germany.
One specific area where that growth shows is during those moments when top-tier clubs, following a solid defensive stop, look to exploit a quick transition for an easy score. We saw plenty of that kind of play today in our matchup against Spain.
When Duvnjak is on the floor, his ability to launch those long, precise passes—or just that initial outlet pass—frequently sets up at least a partial fast break, whereas when Balić is playing, we can pretty much forget about that transition element entirely.

Like I mentioned before, if the US wants to make it to the semifinals, they’re going to have to take down both Spain and France.
The score doesn't actually look as grim as it seems on paper, mostly because the Spanish defense is playing incredibly tough right now. They're definitely feeling the sting of not having Šterbik on their side, though, since they're stuck relying on two decent goalkeepers instead.

It feels like the US has been struggling with offensive consistency for a few years now, especially when they run into defensive walls like these. Honestly, isn't it a bit much to see so many players struggling to find their rhythm if we really want to win games at this level?

On the bright side for the US, they have a matchup against the weakest team in the bracket coming up next, so hopefully, they can capitalize on that and lock in a spot in the semifinals.
Let's go, Iceland! 👋
It looks like it’s pretty much over, as the Frenchmen likely won't be able to hold onto their title 😢

The Frenchies aren't even going to make it out of the group stage, 🤣
Thomas Harris97 said:There really isn't much we can ask for in this matchup. Honestly, if a team like France gets just thirty minutes of play from our Goalkeeper, they’re going to capitalize on it instantly. It’s just one of those unfortunate realities where there isn't much we can do from our side of things. Just try to picture their massive wall of defenders and then imagine our Goalkeeper trying to fight his way through them to find a gap. At this point, I suppose the only thing left to hope for is an injury, since that would be the only way he wouldn't have to take the court.

Buntić's sixty minutes against France ends up having the exact same impact as the Goalkeeper's sixty minutes, which is something we already saw during the last time these two sides met.
The only real downside to seeing the Spaniards take down the Frenchmen, especially right after our guys beat the Icelanders, is that it sets up a tough road ahead for the US, since we’ll likely have to face either Spain or France just to make it to the semifinals.
The French team was predictably underwhelming, but this was just 🤣

It might have been better if Karabatić hadn't even shown up, considering he's easily the best player on the Spanish roster.

Ratko, lead us straight to the gold ☕
Mus is definitely the stronger defensive presence here. While Marić might have an edge offensively when we're facing weaker teams, it isn't really enough to give him a distinct advantage, especially since Vori is likely to be playing all sixty minutes against top-tier opponents anyway. It just seems like the most logical choice, doesn't it?
The Americans look pretty desperate right now, and when your main heavy hitters are Mamelund and Lund, you really can't expect much more than this. They managed to stay competitive for a while, even pulling ahead by four, especially during that stretch when Barachet was holding things down on defense; but once Onesta swapped in his best defensive unit during the second half, it became a total one-way street.
France vs. Norway on the eve of the European Championship. I can't help but wonder just how much offensive firepower the Norwegians actually have in their arsenal, especially since their performance during the last championship was such an absolute disaster.
France could potentially show up without B. Gill and still walk away with the gold. They might manage to win it all even if they were missing their "Air France" star players. Honestly, France could probably pull off a championship run without Karabatić, but I just don't see them taking the top spot without Michael Guigou on the roster.

As for the US team, I think leaving Valcic out of the squad is completely justifiable, and I’ve never really enjoyed watching Zrnic play, not even when he's just handing a towel over to Mirza Džomba.

Spain has some real potential here, but without Sterbik in the lineup, a medal seems like a distant dream.

The big question hanging over this championship will be whether the legendary Momir can carry Mexico to the stars, because if Mexico manages to grab the gold, it would feel just as monumental as if a Mexican were walking on the moon in two weeks.

Even if Iceland had an Olafur who was five years older than he is now, they’d still be favorites for a medal; the way things look currently, though, a podium finish feels like a real uphill battle.
When you look at the big picture of the World Aquatics Championships, it all really boils down to one man: Sun Yang. I mean, huge props to Ryan Lochte for his gold medals, but what that Chinese swimmer accomplished carries a weight that goes way beyond just a few pieces of hardware. That record he held for a decade—one that survived the whole "super suit" era and was pushed to its limit by Grant at the absolute peak of his game—it felt destined to become one of those untouchable legends, much like those old records from overseas that seem like they’ll stand forever. But isn't it strange how things turn out for Grant? Back when he was in his prime, the only person who could truly challenge him was some talented kid from Australia, yet here we are today, watching a Chinese teenager eclipse his greatest career achievement.
Huge congrats on grabbing that bronze medal! Honestly, that game against the Italians just felt like one of those off days where nothing clicked during the tournament. I really hope Ratko can come up with a dominant center by the time we head to London, because if we don't find that presence in the paint, gold might stay out of reach.
George Robinson43 said:There’s no need to worry about anything being split up; we’ll eventually host another championship right here at home.

Ratko Rudić takes home the Olympic gold in London
I suppose if you want to summarize why we lost to the Italians, it all comes down to whether or not Ratko Rudić's timing was actually spot on. 🤣
I was wondering, is Ian Thorpe actually competing in this championship, or has he not qualified to swim yet?
George Robinson43 said:Well, there it is. Reality isn't hiding from us anymore.
The Swedes and Danes are playing on a completely different level than we are, and honestly, scraping a single point against the Mexicans feels like a massive struggle.
If it weren't for Goluža's luck, those final five to ten seconds could have easily turned into an absolute disaster against Iceland because of how chaotic and undisciplined we were during those last three minutes, but somehow he pulled us through.
In the end, he walks away looking like the winner. ☕

How does the saying go? Anything can happen on any given day. We aren't exactly a powerhouse nation since we don't really have anyone leading the charge in places like Ciudad Real or Kiel. At the end of the day, we're just a solid middle-of-the-road team, so I guess this result is actually pretty decent.
