Western Union in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Carl Nguyen5 said:What specific details do I need to have ready to send money to someone—and where and how exactly can they pick it up? Thanks!

Just the first and last name plus the city—you can head to a Post Office or a bank... you'll get a tracking number to send to the recipient, and then they just take that number to a bank or wherever they have a Western Union agreement to grab the cash. You can send up to $3.25
max.

What do you mean by "put" in the bank, though...

Are we talking about a CD, a high-yield savings account, or something else?
And do you have a specific bank in mind—like Chase or Wells Fargo—or does it not really matter?

I am actually in the process of setting up my own business and looking to source some inventory from China, so I was hoping to pick your brains on a few things:
1. Is it actually feasible to consolidate goods from several different suppliers into a single container, and if so, what does that process look like?
2. If my order doesn't quite fill an entire container, am I still stuck paying for the whole thing regardless?
3. Are all containers standardized in size, or is there a variety—and just how massive are we talking here?
3. On a different note, if I have a single package roughly 30x50x80cm, what would be the most cost-effective way to ship that over to the States?
Please forgive my somewhat elementary questions; I suppose I am quite a novice when it comes to this side of things, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. 😁

1. You definitely can—you just need a reliable agent over there to coordinate everything and inspect the goods. Otherwise, you're basically gambling that you won't end up with damaged products...
2. Ask your suppliers for shipping quotes, then check around locally to compare prices—look specifically for companies that handle LCL (less than container load) shipments.
3. There are the standard 20-footers and the massive 40-footers... here's a link so you can check out the actual dimensions.

A friend of mine closed his small business, an MP, and he ended up getting hounded for ages because he hadn't filed the right paperwork or notified the right people... It's not the exact same situation, obviously, but you can never be too careful when dealing with those guys.

Thanks, Jessica... honestly, I think I'll just draft up a formal letter to the Department of Commerce since they were the ones who issued the MTU for that space anyway...

I won't drag this out too long... but when closing down a retail spot, who actually needs to be notified? The space is owned by the corporation, and we’re just keeping it as a warehouse site...

I have two questions:
1.question
I am looking into importing some products from China—one of them I found listed on eBay and Amazon. To test the waters, I ordered a single item from a local seller who claimed it was shipping directly from China; I ended up waiting a full month and paid $10 for shipping, since he insisted it was coming straight from overseas. It was just a tiny 10cm x 10cm x 10cm box with a total value of $17. Now I am curious—how is it even possible for shipping from China to cost $10? Who actually manages those logistics? It seems like every marketplace in the US is flooded with these listings for random trinkets supposedly arriving direct from China. I want to order a few different items in small quantities just to see if the price-to-quality ratio holds up—so, what is the most cost-effective way to handle such a small shipment sent to a private individual?
2.question
Is there any massive wholesale warehouse within the US that stocks Chinese consumer goods—somewhere where it might actually be more profitable to visit in person due to lower minimum order quantities?

You paid for shipping because that seller basically ordered it to his own house from China and then just passed it along to you...
You can find all those knick-knacks on eBay—just grab one or two pieces, pay via PayPal, and you're set (just make sure the seller is top-rated and offers free shipping so you aren't paying anything extra beyond the listed price).
