I think the Skylake configuration is a solid way to go. Honestly, he might not even need an extra cooler since it's just a 65W processor. If there's enough room left in the budget, I'd suggest picking up a better motherboard and some faster 2400MHz RAM, because that really matters for an APU setup like this.

I honestly don't think the gtx 760 is worth the money here, and it’s probably overkill for that CPU anyway. If I were you, I'd maybe just aim for an R7 265 at most.
I honestly think they should include the purchase timing within the rules.
You give him a mountain of suggestions and lay out all the arguments, only for him to just steamroll through everything by making his purchase right around Christmas.😁

I suppose people only pick up the Caviar Black because of that 5-year warranty. Other than that, it doesn't seem to differ much from any other 1TB model out there, yet it carries a pretty hefty price tag compared to the rest.

I guess you're looking at the Intel Core i5 3350p box, which runs on the 1155 socket at 3.10GHz with a 7MB cache and a Quad-Core architecture. I suppose there's some discussion regarding the ASUS H77-M series motherboard. So, looking at this PCI-E EVGA AMD Radeon R9 270 OC with the 2GB DDR5, I guess there isn't much to say beyond the basic specs. It's a standard setup, though whether it actually holds up for what you're trying to do is probably more dependent on your specific build than the card itself. I suppose there's a 1,000 GB Western Digital Blue hard drive available. I guess I'm looking at some 4GB of G.SKILL Value Series DDR3 1600MHz PC-12800 memory. I’m looking at a 460W power supply, specifically the LC POWER Silent Giant GREEN POWER LC6460GP3 V2.3. LC POWER Pro-928B Mechadroid mid-tower case, black, MIDI, no PSU included. I suppose there's some interest regarding the DVD±RW SAMSUNG SH-S224DB, specifically looking at the Samsung SH-S224DB 5,013.00 USD links. It's one of those components that you don't think much about until you actually need it, I guess.
It might handle some lighter stuff, but it’s going to struggle with certain titles. Specifically, anything more recent—titles like Watch Dogs, Crysis 3, or Battlefield 4 are prime examples where the AMD Phenom just isn't going to cut it.
What kind of power supply are you running? Honestly, I'd say you should just sell off the CPU, motherboard, and GPU, then toss that cash back into your budget to pick up some much more powerful components. You just need to check which PSU you have first.

You've got a dedicated thread for graphics cards, but yeah, this GPU is top-tier when it comes to temps and noise levels. I guess the real question is whether you have a decent enough processor and power supply to back it up, and if it'll actually fit inside your case.
Pretty disappointing, honestly. I was expecting a lot more from this. There aren't any standout, hilarious moments, and some parts actually just grate on my nerves because the characters keep rambling on with these pointless, endless dialogues. As far as I can tell, 22 Jump Street is probably the best comedy released so far this year.
