For instance, when I had to go in, I checked in and they basically told me to just head home and wait for a call within two or three days. But, I might have pulled a few strings, so they actually ended up calling me back the very same day..🙂 So, I suppose you won't really know what you're dealing with until you show up in the morning and see what they tell you..😉
Oh, wow!! 🙂 Thanks so much!🙂
Sarah Cox66 said:I ended up showing up on the morning of my surgery... though I guess it really depends on whether they give you pre-meds (you know, those chill pills before the anesthesia kicks in). Usually, they just tell you exactly when to head in... because once the anesthesiologist clears you, you have to check in at the unit.. so yeah🙂
Now I’m honestly not sure. They told me I need to be there in the morning... but I see here it mentions taking a sedative tonight and then something else 🤷 right before the procedure😉. I guess I'll just wait for them to clarify.
Hey guys, quick question (again)... maybe someone here knows... when you head in for nose surgery, you usually have to check into the hospital the morning before, right? But I was wondering—if anyone happens to know—do you actually have to stay overnight, or do they let you head home for the day? (Assuming all the pre-op tests and stuff are already finished)
copperwalker18 said:The main thing is just making sure your surgeon isn't, like, brand new.
About four months ago, I was right where you are, digging around for info about nose surgery and honestly, it was such a headache trying to find anything useful. 🙂
Looking back now, I’d definitely suggest it to anyone struggling to breathe. That feeling when they finally take the packing out? Man, it's hard to describe how much air you can actually get!
I had a pretty bad deviation, so they straightened out my nasal bridge along with some cosmetic work 😁
Sam Kim12 said:It really all comes down to your anesthesiologist and the hospital itself. I did all my pre-op tests at the hospital where I actually had the surgery the day before. I had to do blood work, a urine test, and an EKG😉.
Anyway,
I'm getting discharged today! I had the surgery on Friday, and they already took the packing and foils out of my nose, though I still have to wear a splint for another week because of the reconstruction part. The swelling has gone down quite a bit—just some yellowish bruising under my eyes from where there was a little hematoma, but I can breathe great already 😁. I'm super happy with how everything went, and honestly, the whole department over at Oakland was great. I probably shouldn't get into all the specific diagnoses and procedures since it's a lot of technical stuff 🤣
Thanks for getting back to me so fast😍 you're the best!🙂
I'm so glad you're doing well🙂 That's wonderful news 😍
PS. Based on what you guys said, I think I might have missed one... I don't think they need a urine test. 🙂
Quick question! This is kind of urgent... I think I missed one of my referral orders🙂... Basically, what kind of tests am I supposed to get done before nose surgery?
Like, blood work, chest X-ray, EKG, and seeing an anesthesiologist? What did you guys end up having to do? My doctor isn't picking up her phone, and I was hoping to ask her if this covers everything or if I totally missed a 🤷
I’ve asked them to do my ultrasound every single time, but honestly, it's been such a headache. One time they just told me, "It's too busy right now, maybe next time." Another time, they were like, "Yeah, it's crowded, but I don't think you'll have any issues—if you really want it done, come in and we'll squeeze you in regardless." And then there was the time I booked my appointment with the doctor but forgot to mention I needed the ultrasound, so they wouldn't do it because apparently, I should have thought ahead when booking. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation, though. I think I'll just head to a private clinic to get it handled instead.
So, I end up at the gynecologist pretty regularly. I have to go in for a Pap smear every four months or so. Ever since my very first appointment, I’ve made sure to mention how painful my periods are—like, I seriously can't function, I'm basically out of commission... But the response I get, time and time again, is just, "Oh, that's normal." I haven't even had a deep dive or a thorough exam. It’s always the same routine: they do the Pap, maybe some swabs, and that’s it.🤷
I mean, I see this one OBGYN who has, like, a trillion patients. She's super sweet and all, but she doesn't really seem to actually deal with any real problems, if that makes sense? I don't know how to put it.
rowdyfalcon35, I’ve been reading through everything you’ve been going through. And honestly, looking at your last post, I think you’re absolutely spot on about the whole situation... I’m so sorry you even have to deal with this, I can only imagine how tough it's been for you. Just hang in there and stay strong—I really hope justice finds its way to you soon.
Sending nothing but good vibes your way.
Sam Kim12 said:People say "one tampon is just like any other," but I don't know if that's true since some people use them for different things and others basically cram a whole mountain of them in at once😉. I had my own specific requirements I wanted to meet, but I can't really speak for Vineyard because I wasn't actually there🤷. At Mayo Clinic, for instance, they do things however they want depending on the doctor's preference. Like, the specialist I saw up there uses this new technology, and everyone raves about how top-tier he is and how his patients have almost zero swelling or bleeding—which I actually believed because I saw patients in the waiting room the next day looking totally fine during their follow-ups. But man, when I tried to ask him questions, he just brushed me off, basically telling me why should I care since I'm not an expert🙄 and that it’s none of my business. He even tried to tell me something about my sinuses even though my MRI came back perfectly clear😢
Tony - oh, that's coming up soon, hang in there🙂
The hardest part is when a doctor pushes their own agenda, and we aren't exactly medical experts... It's tough when they insist you need something that you feel isn't actually necessary, and then you're stuck trying to explain yourself to them.
I'll let you guys know how things go at the Sister of Mercy clinic, especially regarding their "tampons." If anyone reading this happens to know anything about them, please let me know🙂
Hey everyone.. I’ve been dealing with periods for about 15 years now. And honestly? They’re always painful. The intensity just fluctuates between the kind where I'm literally screaming and doubled over, and the kind where if I take a pill fast enough, I can at least walk around—though I still feel totally wiped out and nauseous.
And the cramps always start creeping in 2-3 days early. Just light ones, you know? It's like this warning sign that they're coming, and it happens every single time. Once they hit, the pain is just unreal—it feels like something inside me is actually going to explode. My legs get weak, my lower back is killing me... even my arms ache. I can barely eat or sleep during those first two days.
I go through Advil, Motrin, Aleve... basically whatever is within reach. Voltaren doesn't really do anything for me. I feel like I need way more than the standard dose. I recently tried some Lady Max Block (or something like that), but it was useless. The pain was just driving me crazy. 😢 I ended up tossing the box. I’m guessing it’s probably meant for much milder aches than what I deal with.🤷
I just wish I could live without this pain.. I have to go through this every single month and I'm just so over it.😢
I think I might be heading out there soon myself.
Hey, you got a sec for a DM? 🙂
Sarah Cox66 said:So, from what I’ve gathered, it looks like they're going to use tampons... I did a little digging, and honestly, the idea of breathing through your mouth during the process sounds pretty uncomfortable. And then there's the part where they take them out... but hey, nothing too crazy, right? It'll probably just be a quick moment. Anyway, we'll figure that part out. I've been dealing with these issues for about eight years now, and the constant headaches are just exhausting.🙂
My head isn't really hurting or anything, but I feel like I'm constantly coming down with something lately. It's just one thing after another. Anyway, when are you planning on heading out?
Sam Kim12 said:Thanks, girls!😉
Look, there’s really no need to stress out too much about it. I honestly think if you just try to bring a little more positive energy into the mix, things will start looking up. You know you have to stay upbeat if you want to actually see an improvement in your breathing, and once you do that, everything should turn out just fine.😍
You really have to do your homework first because, at the end of the day, you’re the one who knows best what you actually want. I personally looked into a few private clinics and even checked out the Mayo Clinic, but I eventually decided on Dubrava Basketball Club. For me, the specific surgical technique, the recovery process, and having top-tier doctors on hand were absolute dealbreakers. Honestly, I was staying far away from any surgeons who still shove those massive nasal tampons—you know, like two or three feet of gauze—down your nose, or those old-school types who claim all that packing is necessary to hold your bones in place. I just wasn't interested in those outdated methods.
Just a little advice: don't let anyone sway you or push you around. You’ve gotta stay firm and be decisive about what you actually want, because at the end of the day, this is all about you.😉 And I really hope you guys end up being happy with whatever you decide to go with, too.😍
Man, what a mess. I ended up going in for a checkup because my primary care doctor basically insisted on it—I've been dealing with constant congestion and these endless throat, ear, and sinus infections that just won't quit. So, I went over to the Sisters of Mercy hospital, saw the specialist, and... well, he just gave me a date for surgery and called it a day. It all felt incredibly sudden. But then it hit me—they're actually going to put nasal tampons in. Oh boy. 😢
Sam Kim12 said:Yeah, because I dealt with two fractures, and like I mentioned, they had to do a full reconstruction. But honestly, it’s not even a big deal when you're in good hands.😉
I was supposed to be back by Monday, but I think I'll be out until Tuesday since my doctor isn't available until then.
Breathing isn't really an issue😉—you just get used to it. Personally, I don't feel that suffocating sensation like some of the people in the other rooms do. The only thing that gets on my nerves is the bleeding, but as long as it's just draining forward through my nostrils, I don't really care😬. My nose started itching a little while ago because everything is pulling away from the Dexic, but it's not uncomfortable.
I can honestly say I'm beyond happy with my surgeon, the treatment, the therapy, everything. Anyone going in to have polyps removed (they're those roller-type ones that come out easily and soak up moisture great) gets plenty of lidocaine in their nose, so the removal itself doesn't hurt at all.😁
Since I tend to get hit with panic attacks like this—and I'm only three weeks out from surgery—I'm looking into functional stuff. My biggest fear is definitely those damn nasal tampons and the idea of choking. Usually, I don't even breathe through my mouth. When my nose is stuffed up from being sick, I can't even go to sleep; I have to get up because I just can't drift off unless I can breathe through my nose. It's some crazy fixation😁.
But if you've had such positive experiences after all that, then I really hope things will feel normal for me too..
Sam Kim12 said:To help with swelling, they usually give Dexamethasone injections, and you can apply Kamagel or Heparin to the swollen area😉, but you shouldn't massage it unless your doctor gives you the green light.
Anyway
Yesterday I went through a really intense surgery—like a full reconstruction. They had to reshape the mucosal folds and work on the aesthetics too. I'm currently getting those Dexic injections and using Kamagel, and honestly, there’s hardly any swelling at all (just a tiny bit)
I have to wear this splint on my nose to keep everything in place, plus some foil inside my nostrils to reinforce and hold the septum (they actually removed and reconstructed my entire septum). Because the work on the mucosa was so extensive, I'm bleeding quite a bit, so they haven't pulled the packing out yet. It stays in for another two days because if they took it out now, I'd probably bleed too much. I'm even changing the gauze under my nose about every two hours right now.
I am super happy with how the surgery went. The doctor is amazing; he explains absolutely everything. And thanks to those meds I mentioned, I look almost normal (though the gauze under my nose kind of ruins the vibe😂)
Oh, and I had the procedure done at Dubrava Basketball Club🙂
I just wanted to say that all the effort I put into picking the right surgeon and having all those consultations totally paid off. If anyone is looking for an appointment at Mayo Clinic in October and wants to take my spot, let me know, because I've already finished everything up.😬
Oof... So, how long are you going to be stuck in the hospital?
How's breathing with the packing in? Does it feel like you can't catch your breath?😢
Thanks so much for the heads-up. I'll probably give them a call to get everything squared away.
Honestly, I’m not even doing this because I want to😢 there are some really serious issues going on, and I'm honestly pretty terrified. I made it crystal clear to them that I am not looking for any cosmetic tweaks—not even a tiny bit. And the thought of having to breathe through tampons... ugh. 😢😢😢😢
Thanks again, seriously.🙂
Hey everyone... I've got nose surgery coming up soon. I'll be heading to the hospital for it. Since I need to get all my preliminary tests done first (I've already got the referrals), I was wondering if anyone knows how the anesthesia part works? Like, do you go see the anesthesiologist for a consultation before you actually head to the hospital, or do you just bring the referral with you to the hospital and they check you out there?🤷
Thanks so much!😉
