Rhinoplasty: Experiences and recovery tips?

Look, it's true that bruising is minimal when you go to him, but saying you'll have surgery on Friday and be back in class on Monday? I won't even go there. Better if I don't say it.

Hey 🙂 so I'm looking into nose surgery... basically, my nose is pretty flat, so I just want to shorten and narrow it a bit. It doesn't seem like it'll be anything too crazy. Mostly, I'm wondering about the costs and which surgeon you guys would recommend. Is Dr. Toncic any good? What about Dzepina or the Bagatin Clinic? I heard Zambelli is decent, but since I'm in Chicago, it’d be easier to find someone local... since it's not a major procedure and won't be a total transformation... I'd love to hear from anyone who's had this kind of minor correction, because I don't have breathing issues or anything majorly aesthetic. Thanks.

I only went in for functional stuff, if that's even what it's called. The whole reason I did it was because I couldn't breathe without nasal spray—aesthetic stuff didn't matter to me, and I didn't even care about straightening it out 😬. My surgeon did everything through the nostrils, so there aren't any visible marks, swelling, or bruising. They took the Tampons out the very next day. It’s been a week since the surgery and I can breathe now, though it's usually just one nostril at a time that clears up. Scabs are starting to form and my nose feels super dry inside, but I rinse it with Aquamaris often and that helps. Recovery is going exactly like the doctor said, so maybe I'll be breathing fine in a week or two. As for the follow-up, he said after 20 days or sooner if needed, but I'll probably head in after two weeks just to make sure everything is cool...

Don't be ridiculous—forget about going back to school so soon. You'll need at least seven days of recovery, staying in bed and keeping your head elevated according to their protocols...

I honestly don't get people who have zero breathing issues and no major aesthetic concerns but still go under the knife. Seriously, guys, surgery isn't some minor thing you just breeze through! If you don't absolutely have to do it, don't!

What's the move here? If you have a massive nose, it’ll probably look much better after a month... but if your nose isn't even that big to begin with, you're gonna look super weird because the swelling will make it look way bigger than it was before the surgery. 😁 Honestly, you'll probably still have some stitches hanging out of your nose. It took me a few months for mine to finally fall out. 😁

Just popping in again... my nose is healing great. I look completely normal now. The bruising on the sides has mostly cleared up, and the mark at the bridge is gone. It's settling down and looks totally natural. All in all, I'm happy with how it turned out.🙂

Hey everyone. So, I had my nose job about two and a half months ago, and honestly? My nose looks terrible right now.😢 It’s like a literal slide. Looking at it now, I realize my old nose wasn't even that bad. I have to admit, I really messed up by not doing enough homework before deciding to go under the knife.😢 I was searching for a nose with a certain bump, thinking a different one would give me that look.😢 If any of you guys are currently rocking a nose with a bump, could you please send me a photo? If it's not too much trouble. I'm begging you.

I had both the cosmetic and functional stuff done, but honestly, it's all the same timeline. Believe me. My Tampons were also out after two days. And yeah, your nose being dry is normal; it's supposed to be dry. Wounds, scabs, and stitches all heal better when things stay dry rather than moist. It makes sense that it heals faster that way. It's like when you cut your hand; it heals quicker if you don't keep soaking the wound in water. 😁 Don't worry about it. If you can breathe through one nostril now and the other one in a few days, it just means both passages are open, things just haven't settled into place yet. No big deal.

I won't quote everyone here—just to be clear, I have a deviated septum, which means I need a functional surgery... as for the aesthetics, I just want my nose centered so it isn't crooked. Right now, I have no idea what to do. Money isn't the issue—I can stay home if I have to—I just want to look decent for a wedding! But if I wait until after that, I'll be right in the middle of a school trip 😢 Ugh, the price was around $1,600, if I recall correctly—though I'm not entirely sure anymore since he mentioned how much covers the functional part versus adding something for a bump

Hey everyone, for those of you who’ve had nose surgery, could you please tell me if it’s actually possible to still have swelling after 12 months?
And I'm also wondering if bone regrowth happens where the bones were broken? My doctor mentioned that because I have thick skin and really sturdy bones, that might be why it's still swollen, so he told me to just wait another 6 months... Right after the surgery, my nose looked amazing, but now... well, it doesn't look quite as great as it did. 😢

I have undergone nose surgery multiple times in the past for functional reasons,
due to a congenital nasal deformity,
and during my last consultation back in 2005, they told me the only way to actually fix my issue would be to essentially undergo a complete reconstruction—a "boxer's nose," if you will. Apparently, they’d have to remove everything, including the cartilage and the nasal pyramid, and start from scratch... though they did mention there was a possibility, which sounded frankly terrifying because it would completely alter my facial structure.
From what I could gather from the doctors at the time, it sounds like they’d practically have to detach my entire nose from my face just to rebuild it! Such an operation would be incredibly long and grueling, so I find myself with two specific questions: 1. Who is the absolute best ENT rhinologist in Chicago for these kinds of complex reconstructions? I mean, someone who can offer the highest possible success rate... 2. And how exactly do they remove the nasal pyramid? How is that procedure even performed? Someone once mentioned they use forceps, and I’ve even heard whispers about them using hammers... I’m just asking so I know what to expect, even though I haven't quite decided if I'll go through with it yet.

Honestly, this sounds like a bad joke to me😂. There is absolutely no way you’ll be clear of any bleeding after just two days. If you want, I can send you a photo of myself right after I had my bandages removed—day 11 post-op—so you can judge for yourself if that’s even remotely possible.

I won't even ask which genius came up with that idea or where they got it from. Advice: don't let them put any fat or similar tissues, fillers, Aquamide, or any of that nonsense in there. Cartilage grafts solve the problem perfectly. And permanently. The issue? Most "plastic surgeons" don't know how to do it, don't want to, or just can't be bothered. My suggestion: go ask around, get consultations from other doctors, and see what they tell you. Get it done right. I had this exact same issue, and the "distinguished doctor" actually had the nerve to offer to fill my hole with Aquamide! Unbelievable. Real experts right there. 🙄

(So the hospital ends up fixing a private practice mess...)

I really won't get into whether they are "good" or not...
The reality is, sure, they perform these procedures all the time, but the real issue is how much they actually care about the outcome being perfect. To be blunt, they just don't give a damn—not about the cost, and certainly not about you or your nose...

Personally, I would much rather pay a premium to someone who will actually do the job right the first time...
rather than having to go back under the knife for a revision surgery...
It's the same story I hear from almost all my colleagues...
So, yeah... it's entirely up to you what you decide to do.

I am truly glad to hear you are recovering so well... I know you had a hundred questions at the start. 😉
But that is perfectly normal... everything felt strange to me initially too. Now, two and a half months post-op, I can barely even remember how I felt back then... 😉
One really has to be patient. When I compare how my nose looked during those first two or three weeks after surgery... it is a completely different story now. And I am just... incredibly satisfied...

So, has the bone actually finished knitting back together at the fracture site yet? My doctor keeps telling me that I just have thick skin and super dense bones, so he thinks that’s why it’s still so swollen... basically saying I need to wait at least another six months... Oh, and I almost forgot... when you're completely under, you just feel so peaceful. You look so sweet and dear, like a little sister just resting, and you don't feel a single thing. Then you wake up feeling genuinely happy... honestly, nothing, absolutely nothing hurts. I was actually hoping my husband would come pick me up right away, and the nurses were so sweet—they even made me a coffee and put together a little sandwich for me. It was just wonderful...🙂)))
