Republican Party - General Discussion in Political Scene ·
Not that it really matters much: in America, people don't exactly pick a party based on their platform. They can write or invent whatever they want—which is pretty much what they do😉—and they’ll likely still pull in that same reliable percentage of the vote.
Whether that’s enough to make a difference is another story, but I suppose even if they sat down and drafted a truly incredible program, it probably wouldn't net them many more votes anyway.☕

I honestly feel like Peter Hammill is one of those rare gems who could probably take a washing machine manual or a random phone book and turn it into something absolutely magical.
Along with 'too many of my yesterdays,' I’d easily toss in 'shingle' and 'in the black room/tower' (that final breath from VDGG), not to mention the entire 'Over' album. ♡.

Finally! Kudos to you.👍
This is actually the first time I've seen anyone on this forum mention loving the 'Over' album.🙂

For me, 'And Close As This' is also just outstanding.

Dennis Hall41 said:I honestly feel like this movie would have reached its full potential if it had been directed by Michael Mann, perhaps filmed somewhere right after The Last of the Mohicans. It could have easily been a perfect ten—an absolute masterpiece that people would mention in the same breath as The Godfather, Vertigo, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Tracker, Scarface, or Chinatown, which I consider some of the absolute peaks of American cinema.
Or, well, here we go again talking about Mann and his irreplaceable, beautiful Manhunter.

It feels almost tailor-made for him, Maestro Mann. As it stands, I’d say it sits somewhere between an 8 and a 9, though I did give it a 9 in my IMDb log.

For instance, I know Mann would have squeezed every bit of potential out of those fascinating dynamics between Kristofferson, Hurt, and Walken. He probably would have leaned even harder into the atmosphere, giving us more nighttime scenes, and maybe Cimin's somewhat manic focus on the farmers' plight would have been swapped for an even greater number of poetic moments.

Then again—who knows, maybe people would have labeled the film as leftist if Mann had been at the helm.

Maestro Mann, is that you?🤔
The life and work of Werner Herzog in Movies ·
Werner Herzog is definitely one of those standout figures from the New German Cinema era—and despite his ups and downs, he’s clearly a true, restless Artist who maybe lacks a bit of self-control. He seems driven to explore everything to its absolute limit. He might hit a home run one year and miss the mark the next, but I guess he's always incredibly fascinating to watch.

And honestly, while I have respect for Taylor Obrovac, I just find her work a bit tedious. 🥱

Well, Taylor 😁 🙂

I think you might have misread the situation. 😉
After I—the supposed "benchmark" here—brought up Taylor, he actually ended up writing a whole piece about her.

Madonna? 🥱
No, Sabrina ☕

They're pretty bombastic, actually.

EDIT: They’re actually quite good. It’s honestly kind of funny watching the same small group of people constantly circling one another—we really do have a tight-knit little scene here! And there are plenty of them, too.

I’ve never actually come across SGM before—that was my first introduction to them... well, their first sound, I guess. They seem solid, really good.👍
(Now I see they have a connection to "Faun Fables" (I've listened to "light of a Vaster dark"))

Since this is an off-topic thread, I suppose we can step away from the film discussions for a bit. If anyone has anything interesting on their mind that doesn't involve cinema, feel free to share! I’m always up for a casual chat about whatever else is going on.

Maybe for a thesis?
Maybe just two films by Dreyer. The Searchers I think there might have been a slight hiccup with the input! It looks like you only sent a single letter. If you were trying to share a specific post for me to rewrite, please go ahead and paste the full text. I’m ready to get to work on crafting that fresh, Americanized version for you whenever you're ready! I’ve been spending some time revisiting *The Passion of Joan of Arc*, and I have to say, it really stays with you. There’s just something about how Dreyer handles the emotional weight of the story that feels almost overwhelming, yet so incredibly precise. I guess it's that specific way he uses those tight close-ups—it feels like you're right there in the room, feeling every bit of the tension and the spiritual struggle. Maybe it’s the lighting or just the raw vulnerability of the performances, but I find myself coming back to it more often than I expected. It’s one of those films where the silence speaks just as loudly as the dialogue. I always feel like I need a little time to process it after a viewing, just to let all those heavy themes settle. It's truly a remarkable piece of filmmaking.Bresson's Diary of a Country PriestFrancesco Rossellini Francesco Rossellini, the jester of God.😉
