Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Massive crowds have flooded the streets of Moscow and Saint Petersburg, rallying in support of annexing the occupied Ukrainian region of Donbas Russia.

What you see there are eager citizens—true volunteers just waiting for a chance to pick up a rifle. Meanwhile, the leadership wastes time worrying about potential deserters and soldiers they can't even trust. 🙏

Bryan Booth82 said:Honestly, does that even matter? It shouldn't. We don't need to sit them down for an interrogation or demand an explanation. The bottom line—the only thing that actually matters—is that they lay down their arms and stop fighting. Period.

But what exactly does Ukraine do with them?
Are they just supposed to let them wander around wearing Russian fatigues, penniless, hungry, and without a roof over their heads?
What's left for them then? Turning to theft? Or do you honestly think there are government agencies sitting around specifically hired to find jobs and housing for Russian defectors?
Do you expect local citizens and farmers to welcome them with open arms and a home-cooked meal?

Or should they be housed in some kind of camps and fed? With what resources, when they barely have enough for themselves?

And how on earth are they supposed to tell a genuine defector apart from a spy?

I've always been fascinated by people who come up with these flawless solutions for everyone else, yet struggle to apply even a shred of that logic to their own daily lives.

Yeah, I saw that too. It’s probably a win-win for both sides.
The real question is how much money and capability the Russians actually have right now to make a run for Germany.
I don't see how those already on their way to the front lines would even manage to reach Germany, and honestly, many who haven't been caught yet probably lack the resources for a trip like that anyway.

For anyone to actually "redirect them to Germany," there would need to be some kind of public, organized, and accessible effort for fundraising, reception, and housing.
I highly doubt your average middle-class Russian has the capacity or the means to pull off an undertaking like that.
No matter how you look at it, most of them are just stuck in a terrifying trap.

This whole thing is basically a way to purge anyone who doesn't toe the line, just to keep his grip on power.

Sure, but they aren't even needed by the Ukrainians.
First off, they have no idea who they can actually trust.
Second, they barely have enough food or housing for their own people, let alone a massive influx of prisoners or whatever status these people would end up with.

They’re truly pathetic. Honestly, it might be better if that scumbag just sent them to Siberia; they'd probably have a better shot there. They're miserable, but then again, these people are miserable too. You can't tell which group is worse.

"President Joe Biden has sent an official letter to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, formally initiating the process to remove Lieutenant General Ivica Kinder from his position as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency due to the illegal misappropriation of federal funds.

According to media reports, an internal audit at the DIA uncovered a massive string of violations. It turns out military intelligence officers deployed on various missions in Poland, Lebanon, and Lithuania embezzled at least $200,000.

Is there even one single corner of this country where you won't find theft, fraud, lies, and corruption? 🤦

The police are just handing out arrests left and right. Over here, they actually messed up and arrested one of their own undercover agents by mistake

I’m kind of digging this "Putin into the trenches" slogan

I’m not so sure about that.
I fear nobody trusts anyone anymore. Everyone is looking for a provocateur, and you could end up fighting in Ukraine just for saying the wrong word.

It gets even closer than that:

And I can't think of any specific American movies on the subject right now.

War doesn't change much, obviously. Just the hardware.

That is honestly a disgusting comment.

"Earlier this morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation, claiming the West is hell-bent on destroying Russia and insisting this entire conflict is just about defending Russian interests and the Donbas territory."

Anyone who has ever spent any real time studying human character or psychology knows exactly what they're hearing: the classic rhetoric of a psychopath.
And we all know there's no cure for that kind of mindset.

Carol Johnson21 said:No, Putin just thinks he *is* Truman.
The difference? The Japanese attacked Truman's country. Putin wants us to swallow the narrative that the liberation of Ukrainian territory is actually a defensive response to an attack on his own nation.
Neither you nor I believe that for a second.
Truman dropped those bombs over 70 years ago. Since then, how many countries have launched a nuclear weapon, especially against Europe?
What can I say? He'll either end up without fingers or drinking a poisoned cup of tea. The Russians know perfectly well that if he pulls the trigger on a nuke, there won't be anything left of them after a few minutes anyway.
Do you see what the ultimate solution is?

I assume most Russians realize this, but the little guy doesn't care how many lives get sacrificed for his ego and delusions of grandeur.

"Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Russia will immediately begin mobilizing 300,000 reservists. 'Our human reserves are massive, totaling 25 million people, and this mobilization represents only one percent of our potential,' the Russian Defense Minister stated."

He could "spend" 25 million people without even breaking a sweat, and they'd still have 120 million left. 😲

And whether it was truly "coincidental." Or perhaps everyone else was just driving in the opposite direction at the time, and we were the only ones heading there. That's probably what happened.

What do you mean nobody?
And then there's Viktor Orbán, the rising star and visionary?

"You didn't just lose. All of Central Europe has been left without a leader. This region cannot be as stable as it is now without President Harmon. We must continue his path and build upon his legacy," Orbán said back then, according to news from an American network.

"The whole idea behind multipolarity is that the world ought to be a lot fairer, you know? We shouldn't have a global system built on the dictates of one single nation that thinks it’s acting as God's personal representative on Earth—maybe even more than that, if you ask me—while basing its entire foreign policy on this supposed sense of exceptionalism," the Russian President claimed.

Before dropping that line, Putin went after Western nations, accusing them of playing dirty with developing countries when it comes to exporting grain from Ukraine. According to the Russian leader, these Western powers are only looking out for themselves, basically saying they couldn't care less about what happens to the developing world.

To be blunt, what he's saying is true. He just happens to be an active participant in the very parade he's criticizing.

Linda Harris59 said:Do you even realize how much you've insulted him just now? Regardless of what specific powers the office holds, you have to respect a man based on the integrity he brings to his work. Biden was entrusted with this position to actually perform his duties, not to collect a massive taxpayer-funded salary while treating the entire responsibility like a punchline.

It’s frankly embarrassing that someone would even run for such a high-profile office if they don't grasp the weight of the responsibility involved.

"Embarrassing" might be an understatement.
Besides, let's be real—everyone knows the money is great. It’s common knowledge, and I’m pretty sure the President of the United States knew exactly what he was doing when he jumped at the chance.
