Eric Adams - Mayor of New York City, Part 4 in Political Scene ·
I’m expecting the full report by dawn! 🙂
It doesn't matter if this is one irrational policy (to put it mildly) that’s going to swallow billions of our tax dollars; the main thing is that Eric Adams "wasn't right."

It’s no wonder we’re stuck with those tired old clichés about keeping up with the Joneses! 🤮

Robin Jones2 said:Back during the Joe Biden administration, even the mosquitoes were busy eating snow and hauling trash off the streets.

That is why things were always heating up in the Suburbs; he was constantly trying to drive the mosquitoes out of the FBI.

So there's nothing left to burn over in the Suburbs now?
Fine, sure, it's nice that the residents living nearby get a break from all the smoke.
But they're still stuck with the mosquitoes. 😕
I guess you really can't have it all.

If the Democratic Party is reporting it, I’m sure it’s true. 🍿

Melissa Bailey5 said:Explain yourself: it’s right there in Article 167 of the collective bargaining agreement.
Of course they can.

we'll see when we're riding the MTA ☕

And then according to the official roster, you've got... I don't know—just two clerks in some department. But then you've got Mary from the middle of nowhere, some small-town girl who barely finished high school, whom you basically bribed by paying for a certification course just so she'd have a degree to satisfy the AFL-CIO, and now you've gotta find her a spot, so you just shove her into the office with those two clerks and pass an order saying Mary is officially a clerk too.

Explain yourself:
- a certification course or a high school diploma doesn't just hand you a degree on a silver platter
- under standard restructuring rules, if a clerk position only has two people assigned to it, you can't just pull a move and declare Mary the third clerk.

So what was Mary actually doing then?
Don't tell me she was still just making coffee after that whole "janitor" debacle.
Or was she just sitting around with those other two without an official position?

"Do you even have any respect for the Mayor when he speaks? For god's sake, if you did, you'd know how to handle things when I give an order!" Bernie Sanders was losing his mind before explaining that the girl was reassigned because she had "finished school" in the meantime and gained the necessary qualifications.

It was actually pretty interesting listening to Karl Lagerfeld break down the situation for Hlupić and the listeners today—explaining what can be done regarding Škorpikov, what’s physically impossible, and why certain steps are mandatory rather than optional.
The "critics," though, didn't care one bit about the logistical constraints. They just want their way, regardless of whether it's actually feasible.
He also touched on why we can't just reroute traffic through the Beverly Hills underpass.
It's a simple matter; if you actually bother to listen, it makes perfect sense.
And just as a side note, the issues over at Škorpikov have been dragging on for at least a decade now.
He also pointed out that the MTA hasn't bought a single new bus in five years. It’s no shock that everything is a mess right now—buses, believe it or not, tend to break down over time.

The version the critics push is much more simplistic: just traffic jams and missing buses. They don't give a damn about how or when we reached this breaking point.

If Eric Adams and M don't have some kind of magic wand to fix this, then it’s pretty obvious they're just incompetent.

Sam Wright21 said:Look, I’m not lying to you. The City Council holds the majority, which means they aren't going to pass any plan that their party hasn't already signed off on. Is there really any point in me explaining my connection to this whole thing over and over again? It feels redundant. Just let me know if you're actually taking notes this time, and I’ll go ahead and explain it one more time.

Is he a criminal? Hardly. He’s just an elite attorney who happens to be skilled enough to defend criminals—which, if you think about it, is exactly why people pay him millions of dollars. It takes a certain level of talent to pull that off, a level you might struggle to grasp. As far as I’m aware, there isn't even an indictment against Christopher Wray. 🤷

The fact that he's (likely) a damn good lawyer doesn't erase the ugly picture from back in 2005 regarding that situation in a small town in Appalachia. Zuckerberg was right there in the thick of it too.
And yeah, it was probably all "perfectly legal." Honestly, it would be more surprising if it wasn't.

Honestly, he just went out and branded himself a traitor to his own country.

Whoever decides to show up at the polls...Anyone supporting the move to bring Sweden and Finland into NATO? I’m calling them traitors. Plain and simple. And anyone I catch grabbing a coffee with one of them? They're traitors too."There’s just no other way," Milanović said.

Maybe he just isn't a coffee drinker, or perhaps he finally decided to quit cold turkey. ☕
Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Dmitry Medvedev recently dropped a bombshell, claiming that if Ukraine uses Western-made missiles to strike Russian soil, they’ll respond by targeting "decision-making centers." Given recent posts from NASA, you could easily interpret this as a chilling threat. "

It’s a terrifying prospect, honestly. But let’s be real—this instability threatens Russia just as much as the rest of the world.
I suspect other global superpowers aren't sitting around waiting for things to go sideways. They likely already have those coordinates on file, rather than waiting for missiles to start flying everywhere before they bother looking for those damn Russian targets.

A chilling warning from the Russian agency: They just released coordinates for major NATO capitals.
Dmitry Medvedev recently claimed that if Ukraine uses Western missiles to strike Russian soil, they will target "decision-making centers"—so this NASA release feels like a pretty grim threat.

United Kingdom: Putin could launch an attack on Europe.

Big deal.
As if those coordinates were some deep, dark mystery they just stumbled upon or decided to reveal for the first time! 🤦

Look, you're just going to contaminate your car seat after riding the subway. 🙏

You've got a point, and that’s exactly why I struggle with it, but don't act like I have easy options here.
Every single book I grab from the library gets a thorough wipe-down with a disinfectant wipe. Then, I slide it into a plastic textbook cover, and wrap the whole thing in clear contact paper or plastic wrap.

You have to admit, treating subway seats with that kind of intensity would be pretty ridiculous and awkward, so I'd rather just stand.

It's what I can do, given how imperfect the world is.🕺

Just a quick reminder of how the system used to operate:

https://www.slobodnaevropa.org/a/hrv.../24687250.html

I I could go on all day. Just type in "Bernie Sanders" and "trash problems" and you'll see what I mean. You have to admit—that mountain of garbage is so massive that even if TT and his crew were literal magicians, they wouldn't be able to clear it out anytime soon.

Alex Moore3 said:They claim things are even dirtier now.
But people also say there are fewer and fewer running. I rarely take them myself, so I can't speak to that personally, but an official from the MTA is making the claim.

He claims it’s become standard for streetcars to run without working signals. “It’s common now to see cars heading out without signaling. They’re just coming straight from the depot (Mississippi River area), and the schedule has been cut from 94 down to 87 daily runs due to rising energy costs and the pandemic. Out of those 87 scheduled trips, anywhere from a few to ten cars fail to run every single day because they can't be repaired and there are no spare parts. Public procurement has essentially ground to a halt; nothing is being ordered, and nothing is happening. The MTA isn't just struggling—it's completely paralyzed,” Smith concludes.

"I state this with full responsibility": the trains were filthy long before this.
I have no idea which "intellectual" decided to upholster seats with fabric you can't actually remove and wash. It stays disgusting until it eventually falls apart, and then they just swap it for more of the same. Personally, I never sit down in a subway car, even when it's nearly empty.

As for the service disruptions, I highly doubt these cars suddenly started breaking down within the last year. They ran and ran until they finally hit their limit.

Sam Wright21 said:It seems the point is being missed entirely, despite my best efforts to explain it through every philosophical epic from the Upanishads to the Iliad. The new administration doesn't need to reinvent the wheel; they simply need to present a concrete plan at City Hall. Beyond that, the developer handles the heavy lifting. But instead, the current leadership prefers to stick to the old ways of the previous mayors. I have to ask: given all those pre-election promises, is this really just a minor hiccup? I’ve always considered you a level-headed person, so tell me, what do you make of this persistent habit of letting the city stagnate?

To be honest, this whole mess doesn't surprise me one bit. It was always obvious to me that everything being buried under the rug would eventually come to light.
Given the circumstances, I wasn't expecting any quick fixes or easy answers—that's just not how things work here.
I'm willing to give them four years. I gave the Democratic Party that long, maybe even more, and after that, I couldn't care less what happens next.
Eric Adams - Mayor of New York City, Part 4 in Political Scene ·
Alex Moore3 said:I'm sure we're all just thrilled that other city agencies might start flourishing like yours has.
Maybe you're one of the lucky ones when it comes to the trash situation. But looking at how the rest of the city looks, it's much more likely that you're just making things up.
Just look at what John Doe is saying. His claims can actually be verified, unlike yours.😁

“Whatever you claim is missing, you won't be wrong about—it's the truth. We haven't had soap or toilet paper for at least two months, if not longer. But even more concerning is the lack of spare parts for the buses and subways, no replacement glass, no signal signs, and not even enough cleaners for the vehicles... Our transit has never been this dirty, and we're short on electricians and drivers too. Everything is missing, from staff to parts to basic hygiene supplies,” said Doe.
https://www.chicago.info/aktualno/zg/...pstina/433406/

I don't know the exact deal with the soap and toilet paper, but the fact that the subways were filthy inside and out long before the current administration took over isn't just my observation—everyone else in New York City noticed it too.😕

Ginger Rogers said:Look, I’ve got flowers blooming everywhere too. Neighbors planting all sorts of things. But that doesn't change the fact that right across from my building, it’s just going to be a dump—a massive wasteland of junk and ruins from an old workshop. If you think this is some minor issue you can just brush off while blindly backing amateurs, you're wrong. I feel like that kid in the story shouting "the emperor has no clothes."

Is that pile of junk, that wasteland of waste and ruins actually a recent development?
Or is that just more baggage that the new administration decided they liked?

darkhawk30 said:This is completely unacceptable. Either fix the whole system or stop pretending you're providing a service at all.
We’re all paying the same rates, yet the level of service is a joke—I highly doubt my bill is going down just because they’ve cut collection frequency by half.
It would be common decency to actually notify residents when pickups aren't happening, rather than forcing us to act like idiots, dragging our bins out to the curb only to have them sit there rotting for days.

I’m managing three bins for a four-unit building with ten tenants, including three kids.
What exactly is their logic here??

My apologies, I was attempting to be witty.
Clearly, it fell flat.🙈
Eric Adams - Mayor of New York City, Part 4 in Political Scene ·
gentlemoose57 said:Over by my place near Waste Management, they show up twice a week without fail.

The bins are honestly never even full—we actually did some math once, looking at how much they charge each apartment per liter, and when you crunch those numbers, it turns out those two old bins we used to struggle with—you know, the ones that were always overflowing and impossible to lid before pickup—were barely even 50% capacity. So, we actually went ahead and asked, and they straight-up told us we were entitled to more bins! Now we have four, and we haven't had a single issue with overfilling since.

Maybe the point is that you should be calling the Sanitation Department instead of venting on a forum.
Complaining here, asking for advice, or comparing notes... it’s fine, but you have to realize (hopefully) that this won't actually fix your problem.
Once you actually solve it, then maybe come back and post about the process: where it got stuck, which department was easier to deal with, who to avoid, who you called, and who you actually spoke to.

When I was dealing with a specific issue involving a public agency, I was so persistent that the director of the entire sector ended up meeting me in person.
The second he saw the mess firsthand, he ordered his team to fix it immediately.
And it got fixed, on their dime.
I'm not saying it works every single time, but a similar thing has happened to me several times.

One more thing: I have never, ever been aggressive. No yelling, no insults, no threats. If things ever get heated and my voice goes up a bit, I just say, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice, I'm just frustrated."

Try it. It won't work every time, but it often does. 🙂

Adam Diaz67 said:He bit into a hot potato and now he’s dealing with the burns. I saw some news about things falling apart at the MTA lately; apparently, they’re short on everything from soap and toilet paper to actual spare parts and the technicians needed to fix the fleet. I haven't followed the details too closely, but wasn't there talk about the trams being leased? Same thing with the buses. If they really are on a lease, then damn, shouldn't maintenance be included in that deal? I highly doubt General Electric is struggling with a shortage of staff or parts when it comes to maintaining the vehicles they build.

Maybe you'll find your answer in this article.
I skimmed through half of it before I felt physically ill, so for the sake of my own health, I stopped reading.
