@Robin Murphy5Maybe I didn't put it quite right, but that Stargate scene was absolutely phenomenal. Honestly, I had this weird moment of total dissociation where I realized just how deep I was into the movie.
That feeling when a film can actually shake you physically—it’s something you never forget. Forget drugs or any other kind of high.😁
Here’s another one whose life was flipped upside down by Stanley Kubrick.
If I remember correctly, there was this cycle of festival premieres on TV.
On the schedule: 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I was in 5th grade, maybe 6th at most.
Sure, watching monkeys was actually kind of cool, but everything after that? Man, it was just boring as hell.
Fast forward three or four years to my freshman year of high school, and suddenly there's Odyssey back on PBS.
I remembered it—that incomprehensible slog of a movie—but for some reason, I couldn't help myself; I had to watch it again.
And that was it—a total revelation. It completely consumed me, to the point where watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CglvOos2bA literally made me feel nauseous and lightheaded.
And you can just imagine the looks your friends give you when, as a freshman, you announce that your favorite movie ever is Odyssey.😵

I agree with you word for word.
And yeah, instead of calling it major drama, it would’ve been more accurate if I’d said "dramatizing" in quotes (if you know what I mean).
One more thing for potential viewers: if you're single and feeling miserable about it, this movie is definitely not going to lift your spirits! For everyone else—go watch it!

'A little masterpiece'?
Don't be so modest :-)
It’s a fantastic movie. Being able to portray everyday life like this—without relying on massive drama or some huge emotional outburst—and still keeping you hooked for the full 129 minutes...
it’s right on the edge of what the great Eric Rohmer used to do. That’s why it’s a perfect ten for Mike Leigh!
