Fuck Dana White: negotiations, contracts, coke, and hookers in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·

Just a little something regarding the topic we've been chewing on here.

Thomas Morales8 said:Francis Ngannou's manager Marquel Martin says the heavyweight champion will likely undergo knee surgery "in March," followed by "9 to 10 months" of recovery.

So, he's out for at least a year. Honestly, it could be longer because you have to factor in how much he can even train during that window. You've got the recovery time of 9 or 10 months, plus the wait for the actual surgery, and then once he's finally 100% and ready to hit high-intensity training again... man, we aren't seeing him for well over a year. I think he's around 35 now? It’s such a shame he didn't just take the win when it was right there. I don't think we'll ever see Ngannou Stipe again—maybe just Stipe JJ, if he even decides to fight at all. Same goes for the other guy.

The real question is what kind of shape Ngannou will actually be in after surgery and how much his body will let him push himself in camp. Even when he's ready and trained up, he's already gasping for air after just two rounds. It's a bummer he lost in my eyes. And if he decides to jump into boxing after he recovers... and there are still titles waiting for him... man, Ngannou, you really messed this one up.

Thomas Morales8 said:Honestly, about 98% of these guys couldn't care less about their "legacy." Just hand them a fat check and they're good to go. I saw Franjo picking up a white G-Wagon recently,
just like how someone would go on Zillow to buy a house in Las Vegas or whatever.

Legacy isn't going to pay your rent next month...

Look, I didn't mean he’s fighting for free—hardly. What I meant is that instead of focusing on his legacy, he's clearly all about that high-roller lifestyle. The real question is whether he can actually sustain that level of spending if he's getting underpaid, or if he's actually making enough to pull it off.🕺

Then again, he knows he probably only has another two or three years left in the game. If he makes a killing now, I can't really blame him. I just hope he doesn't end up like some Bob Sapp type, throwing hands with random amateurs and grizzly bears just to chase a quick buck.

Roger Mendoza422 said:No, hold on, Noah Roberts46 was actually suggesting that fighters only see about 16% of the company's total revenue. Honestly, if that's the case, I'm pretty sure it's an accurate figure. I don't really see what the big deal is.

Look at Francis Ngannou now. He’s sitting on a million bucks, yet he'd probably only step into the cage once a year. Honestly, before all this, the guy was basically out there breaking rocks in a quarry just to get by.

And just like that... I'm back in my bed.

I’ve been scrolling through Francis Ngannou’s Instagram lately, and man, the guy is living absolute luxury. Honestly, looking at his lifestyle, you start wondering where all that cash is actually going. It’s wild because he came from such nothingness—real struggle street level—so I get why he's enjoying himself now that he’s finally seeing those big checks. But honestly? It feels like his appetite for the high life is way outstripping what he actually brings in. It’s almost like he’s just chasing the bag rather than worrying about building some kind of lasting legacy. If he can land a massive payday over in the boxing world, he’d probably grab a belt, take his winnings, and never look back at the UFC again. At this point, it seems like it's strictly about the money for him.

You know, they say what goes up must come down. We’ll just have to wait and see what kind of mess they manage to cook up for themselves once the dust settles—though honestly, it really all comes down to how much of a disaster their management team is. If you ask me, most of these guys are playing a losing game: fighting as little as possible while chasing the bag as hard as they can. And look, let’s be real here—I don't know about you, but if I were a halfway decent human being, I wouldn't be out there looking to get my head handed to me for a paycheck.

Noah Roberts46 said:Look, 16% is tiny. You can try to spin it however you want, but that’s three times lower than what you see in any other major sport.

So, let me get this straight: the UFC pays you a flat $1,000,000 total just to make the math easier, and you walk away with only $160k from that fight? That is absolute nonsense. It makes zero sense, I honestly can't believe it. If that's how things work, how much would you have to make—or how many fights would you have to grind through—just to actually build some kind of future? You threw out this weird stat, and while I'm sure you pulled it from somewhere, it still doesn't hold water for me.

What kind of schedules are you guys running for GO? I’ve realized over the last two or three years that it actually works out way better for me if I spread everything out over a twelve-month cycle—basically, hitting it during the winter. Things felt way too high-pressure this past summer; I mean, having the beach right there makes it hard to stay focused when I just want to head out for an hour or two in the afternoon. Plus, winter has its own kind of vibe where it’s just easier to stay curled up inside rather than forcing myself to get up and grind through work when the weather is miserable elsewhere.

My AC just died on me, so I’m basically playing the lottery right now hoping someone can come fix it soon. For now, it’s just me, a desk fan, and a glass of ice water.

Does that actually work with water?

Man, you wouldn't believe the absolute disaster happening at my office right now. The AC unit just completely crapped out on us. It’s been weeks since anyone's actually bothered to come out and fix it, so basically, everyone inside is just slowly roasting alive. It's getting ridiculous.

I usually head out to work early in the morning, and by then, it’s already hitting about 78 or 80 degrees out there. I can't stand running the AC; I'd much rather just crack a window open, at least during those early morning hours or maybe later in the afternoon when things settle down.

It's starting...

Edit: Honestly, screw this. Another false alarm? First it was Eric Molina, and now these guys. If Whyte blows this and can't even land a shot against a top contender soon, his career is basically toast.

I’ve been looking into this potential Wilder-Ruiz matchup too, and honestly, both guys have everything to lose here. If either one of them takes an L, their careers are basically going to hit a massive wall. For Wilder, we're talking about his chin—and when he starts getting reckless with his head, that's when things get dangerous. Personally? I think it might be smarter if the big guy just calls it quits now before things get ugly.
