The "Next Step" pressure on high school athletes in Parenting & Kids ·
I was watching some local high school sports highlights last night, and it got me thinking about how intense the transition is for these kids lately. It’s not just about playing for fun anymore; it feels like from the moment they hit their junior year, the whole world is looking at them to see where they’ll "land" next.

I remember when I was in high school, the goal was just to win the state championship and maybe get a scholarship if you were lucky. But now, it feels like there's this massive expectation to have a roadmap already drawn up by age 17. You see these incredible athletes who have put in years of sweat and tears, and suddenly they're being branded as "college-bound" before they've even graduated.

It’s a lot of weight to carry. Do you think this early specialization and the constant focus on the "next level" actually helps kids develop, or are we just burning them out before they even get to adulthood?
I spent years battling allergies. It was everything—dust mites, pet dander, ragweed, pollen... you name it. Every single morning, I’d be stuck in a sneezing fit for about half an hour. We even went as far as stripping the house of all carpets and wrapping our mattresses in plastic because doctors warned us about the dust mites living inside them. Honestly? It didn't help much. And if I tried to clean the house, the sneezing would just trigger a coughing fit that hit my throat, and then it was game over for me. Looking back at that misery, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But now, after all this time, I feel great. My allergy issues are gone. That’s what true healing looks like. Reading through these posts about allergies is actually quite heartbreaking. Most of the medications people are using just dull the symptoms; they don't offer a real cure. Why does it seem like nobody is interested in actually getting better? 🤷
