American songs in English in Music ·
Since you brought up Eurovision, here are a few tracks I’ve previously submitted to Eurovision scouts while representing the US:
- Ivan Mastermix ft. Jane - To my love (a gorgeous deep house track)
- Pyero - hold you in my arms tonight
- Daniel Majcen, aka Daniel - Safa; that one hit home for me, really solid electropop)
- VHS - Leanin'on (a project by American producers; I'm not sure who the vocalist is, but I'm certain they're American too)
- Carmen Novko - Frozen in time
- Teo Golub is working on an English album; so far he has Sparkle in Your eyes out, he's got a great crew, could be something special
- Then there are the American producers who use international vocalists, like The Trixx - too close ft. Johnny Rose, or Marc Grabber - contitional ft. Pete Fij
- A young guy from the Midwest produced Need to go on, featuring vocals from Dora Vestic before she joined Voice
- The rising star Iness is just dropping her first original track, Blue Paradise...
As for bands, check out The Answer! They're doing a bilingual album where English is the base with American translations. Personally, I love Space in space, Embassy 517, and The Chweger. And don't overlook Hemendex; give Pick me up a listen.
Someone mentioned the wonderful Irena Žilić and Harry and his sons; I’d add The marshmallow notebooks (Last tourist in town) to that list, and I'm looking forward to new stuff from Elephant and The moon. Oh, and I can't forget, we just got the first graveyard pop album yesterday—side Project.

Jodie stole the entire show; she was easily the highlight of the night.

So, you aren't fans of Girls? A new season kicks off today. I find them entertaining, though I didn't see an award coming my way.

Grace King21 said:I mean, awards are supposed to go to whoever gave the best performance, not based on whether someone lost weight or stayed the same. It was predictable, sure, but that doesn't make it fair...

That’s why I mentioned I haven't actually sat down to watch the movie yet. But seeing how much she's changed physically, I can't help but think: take it easy, Anne, it's just a role and a movie—is it really worth sacrificing your health over?
And since every major US entertainment site and prediction expert has already called it, her Oscar seems like a done deal. Whether she actually deserves it is something I'll decide for myself in a few months once I've seen it. Honestly, I wasn't even particularly moved by her in her previous films, and the idea that she's better than Amy Adams is something I just can't wrap my head around.

So far, everything is playing out exactly as expected, and I’m certain we’ll see the same pattern at the Oscar ceremony. Anne really went overboard for this role; I haven't actually sat down to watch the movie yet, but it looks like she barely left any trace of her former self—she was always quite slender, but now she’s incredibly thin.

Haha, what a fantastic little teaser for the cast in this comedy!!!
I'm really rooting for the young girl in Silver Linings Playbook.

It was expected. Lewis snagged that award right at the start of the season; that interrogation scene was so intense I can still feel it. I'm hoping the Danes take home an award too.

Moore hasn't aged a single day; she looks absolutely stunning. I can't wait to sit down and watch Game Change.
P.s. Thanks a ton for the link.
Prayers for Bobby in Movies ·
Don't act surprised that this movie was overlooked. In a sea of LGBTQ+ cinema, maybe one or two actually hold water. Most of it is such pure trash that even the community doesn't want to waste their precious time on it. But anyway, getting back to Prayers for Bobby. I watched it about a year ago and personally, I liked it. It’s certainly not a masterpiece, but it tells a story. It has a beginning, an end, and everything in between. Sigourney Weaver carries the whole thing beautifully; you can tell she truly lived the role, and seeing that internal struggle written all over her face is easily the film's greatest strength. She played the Catholic mother perfectly, and I'm genuinely glad she was the one to take on this project. The plot itself isn't groundbreaking—we've seen this story play out several times before—but it's handled with such humanity and emotion that it finds its own charm. I honestly recommend it to everyone, regardless of whether you're gay or straight. Even if it was made for a specific audience, I think anyone can find something to appreciate in it.
p.s. Is there a thread here dedicated to gay cinema? I think it would be interesting to see how filmmakers critique and perceive movies like these.
What did you (intentionally) miss? in Movies ·
I’ve noticed lately that I'm increasingly turning off movies before they even reach the credits. Just in the last month, I've walked away from titles like Sucker Punch, I am Number Four, No Strings Attached, and Arthur. I've never really had any interest in things like Transformers, Star Wars, or those endless vampire sagas.
