Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
restlessbadger2 said:crimsonhawk35, if you don't mind me asking, who actually diagnosed the hernia? I'm just curious, really. I wasn't sure if you've had a chance to look through these specific threads yet, but if you haven't, I would definitely suggest giving them a read:

Vulvodynia
Groin Area

Thank you so much, I will certainly make sure to read through those. Actually, an experienced surgeon named Ivo Soldo at the Holy Spirit hospital originally diagnosed it, and then he was later confirmed by a surgeon named Dina Pavicic over at the Butterfly clinic...

I’m so sorry if someone has already jumped in with an answer, but I was wondering if anyone might have a recommendation for a really talented surgeon over in Washington, D.C.? I'm looking into getting surgery for a Hernia (yeah, it's a bit of a situation, haha), so any leads would be wonderful. Thanks so much to everyone for the help! 🙂

So, basically, I’ve been dealing with pain in my lower abdomen, specifically on the right side, for 4 years now. And yes, you read that correctly—4 YEARS.
The pain flares up whenever I push myself physically.
To give you an idea of what I mean by "physical effort"...
I spent 8 years working in the service industry—heavy trays, constant movement, that kind of thing.
Honestly, I wasn't just crying; I was screaming from the pain while on shift. Thank God I had a decent boss who actually understood my suffering, so I could head home when I hit my limit, or if I didn't want to leave yet, at least duck into a storage room to curl up and cry in peace.
Maybe I'm being a bit mild with the description, but "screaming" is honestly the most polite way I can put it.

I can't run, I can't walk for long periods, I can't even do a big grocery run at a supermarket like Walmart, or roll, or just walk more than maybe 50 yards at a time without the pain hitting me immediately.
In my head, I know I *can* do those things, but I just know exactly what's coming next...
It's safe to say I've become severely limited in what I can do.
I usually drive to work, but my car broke down seven days ago, so I had to walk to my job for five days straight.
It might sound dramatic, but believe me, it feels like you're in a coma when you know the pain is coming while you're stuck at work and there's nothing you can do about it.

Kidneys, Pap smears, blood work, urine tests, gallbladder, liver, spleen, appendix, endoscopies, dynamic scintigraphy, ultrasounds...
And so many other tests, none of which ever managed to find anything.

Should I mention that I've tried taking seven different types of pills meant for spinal pain or kidney issues? I've lost count of how many standard painkillers I've gone through. The most ironic part is that nothing helps. NOTHING. When the pain starts, I can only retreat into my own little world and pray to God it stops soon (imagine how that feels while I'm working), and the pain never lasts "just" half an hour...

Every once in a while—but frequent enough—it starts while I'm sleeping. The pain wakes me up, and I'm just moaning in bed for hours, then I get up in the morning chronically sleep-deprived, still in pain, getting ready for work and praying it will let up.

Nobody knows what's wrong with me. I'm only 24, yet I feel like my life is slowly winding down because this has completely buried me, both mentally and physically.

I've lost hope—hope that I'll ever be okay again.

I would give anything just to be able to work, to be able to run, and to have the only pain I feel be muscle fiber soreness from a workout.
For someone who has always been an athlete, I shouldn't even be allowed to move anymore.
To me, that feels like pure murder.
If you really want to destroy a person, take away the thing they love most.

That's what happens to me almost every single day, and I'm starting to yearn for an end to it all.

The tests are expensive—every single one.
And I can't even pick up extra shifts to cover it (I have a decent salary, but it barely covers my basic living expenses, let alone medical bills and specialists).

I just wanted to say that you aren't alone in this.
I drifted a little off topic...

Even though this post was originally made 4 years ago, I just couldn't help but write something. 😁I haven't scrolled through the pages to see if you ever posted an update about this, but I'm curious—how did it turn out in the end? Because I'm dealing with similar issues, and I've been diagnosed with a pelvic hernia...
I’ve actually gone and seen five different doctors now, and honestly, it’s been such a whirlwind, but only one of them—a general surgeon—actually suggested it might be my appendix... though all the others seem pretty convinced it isn't, or if it is, they say it’s just tiny and basically nothing to worry about. I suppose they're mostly just puzzled because of how much pain I'm in, since the discomfort keeps radiating down toward my left knee and then up toward the right side of my chest. They've run so many ultrasounds and even an X-ray, but everything comes back looking perfectly normal, which is just so frustrating. Now, they're sending me off to see a neurologist and a physiatrist to see if it might be some kind of nerve issue instead. The trouble is, I won't get an appointment until September, and I feel like I'm just dying waiting for that, because the pain hits me in these crazy, intense waves... and now, instead of just one lump on my lower right abdomen, I seem to have three little ones there. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else might have any ideas about what this could be, or maybe if you've had a similar experience? 😢

So, I went ahead and read through that, and while I suppose it could potentially be what's happening, looking at most of the symptoms, it doesn't quite seem to fit perfectly... I wonder if anyone else might have some other ideas or perhaps some personal experience to share?

So, I haven't been able to find anything that quite matches what I'm going through, so I figured I might as well just start a new thread here. For the last couple of months or so, I've been dealing with this pain in my right groin area and the lower part of my right abdomen. It’s more of a dull ache, really, and it tends to radiate down my right leg toward my knee. I actually ended up at the ER, and they managed to rule out everything gynecological—it isn't even appendicitis, thankfully... I do have a few swollen lymph nodes in my groin, but they said that wasn't anything too serious... however, during the ultrasound, the doctor spotted something that looked like a section of bowel that shouldn't quite be positioned where it was. They initially suspected a hernia, but after the ultrasound, they ruled that out too... now they're sending me to see an orthopedist because they think there might be some sort of issue with my hips... My big question is; has anyone else here dealt with anything similar, and would it be okay for me to stay active, you know, like walking, doing yoga, or light exercise? I completely forgot to ask the doctor about it, but I'd love to know... though I suppose I'll just have to wait until my appointment. I'm also a bit unsure if I can even manage it since I've got a bit of a "stomach bug" situation going on right now.
Thanks everyone for all your replies, your experiences, and your comments 🙂
