Where should I donate used clothes? in Miscellaneous ·
I actually know about that "eight plus" group.
Just hit up Google to find their contact info.
Forrest Gump (2003) in Movies ·
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it, and honestly, I could go for a million more... hands down the best movie ever made!!! 😍

The thing is, every time I bring it up around guys, I get "that look"... you know the one. Is there seriously no guy out there who isn't some total softie who actually enjoys this stuff?? 😢

p.s. No offense to the ladies (or anyone for that matter, since I know how that phrase sounds, but at least you get what I mean here) — I totally get why those types of guys love it. In fact, I’m actually kind of relieved that at least a small slice of the male population still has a romantic side... 🙂

Tell me, is this strictly a female thing or does it happen to men too? I'm guessing if you're gay, you'd deal with the exact same issues.🤷

The book doesn't actually specify gender, so I'm pretty sure it applies to everyone. I lent my copy to a buddy so I can't double-check right now, but hey, I managed to scan a few lines from another source for the skeptics out there... 🙂

I clearly have way too much time on my hands today🙄

Dealing with edema (fluid retention) in Health ·
Honestly, we really need some actual moderators on health forums to step in and stop the spread of total misinformation... Like that nonsense about drinking too much water. 🙄 Look, just remember—you can't really drink too much water. In plain English: your kidneys will just flush out any excess immediately. There’s basically no such thing as a water overdose (unless you're running something like the Boston Marathon and chugging more than 3 liters mid-race).

As for "water retention," you've always got to check your liver and kidney function first. If those look good, then you can move on to other stuff.

Here are the tests I’d suggest:

For the liver: total blood proteins (albumins, globulins, etc.), plus AST, ALT, ALP, and GGT.
If someone is paying out of pocket and trying to save a buck, just checking albumins, AST, and ALT is usually enough to get a baseline.

For the kidneys: microalbuminuria (from a 24-hour urine sample) and creatinine clearance. Those are pretty much the gold standard for accuracy.

If any of those markers are off, that's when you dig deeper. I recommend these specifically because they give a doctor (who actually knows what they're doing) a ton of useful data, and all in all, they're cheaper for the patient. For instance, a standard lab test for protein in urine—which is what most general practitioners run—won't catch microalbumin, which is often one of the earliest warning signs for diabetes or kidney failure. An incompetent doctor won't even think to order a microalbuminuria test until things have already gone south.

Now, if the liver and kidneys are totally fine, and you're staying active (or at least walking a lot) and eating right (plenty of fruit, veggies, and water), then the issue is likely vascular—basically, weak vein walls. That's usually treated with high doses of bioflavonoids (like Daflon—you might have to hunt that down since it isn't always sitting on the shelf at your local CVS). It's all-natural, and honestly, it's the top recommendation for basically any kind of chronic venous insufficiency, whether it's hemorrhoids, swollen legs, or whatever else.

p.s. I'm a med student.

Basically, women who have a desire for anal sex—whether they realize it or not—but don't have an outlet for it, end up suffering from psychogenic anal pruritus. It happens when they can't bring themselves to ask a partner, if they aren't close enough yet, or if there's just too much fighting and a lack of trust in the relationship... it all builds up.

It can manifest as anything from a few "mini flare-ups" over a couple of days to this absolutely maddening itching that doctors can't find a physical cause for. You see it more often in women holding high-pressure jobs, people dealing with chronic stress, those going through long periods of sexual abstinence, or anyone stuck in a relationship where their sexual needs just aren't being met.

If she's actually in a relationship, then psychotherapy really needs to involve both partners to work...

Maybe look into parasites (specifically pinworms) just to be safe, and check if you might be dealing with hemorrhoids. Honestly, those usually just need some Aspirin—that’s basically the gold standard when you want something more natural... also, try not to sit around for hours on end, stay on top of hygiene so sweat doesn't irritate things, and watch what you eat. Stick to high fiber and stay away from anything too spicy or heavy, and that’s pretty much the gist of it.

The only other thing is that whole "psychogenic pruritus ani" situation. If that's the case, try having some anal sex with your partner—I'm dead serious here—I actually passed my psychiatry exam with a 5😁...
