I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much we rely on the idea of a single "stabilizing force" to keep everything from descending into chaos. Growing up, the narrative was always that as long as this one specific superpower stayed on top, the rest of the world would follow a predictable set of rules. It felt like a safety net, even if that net was sometimes pretty frayed and imperfect.
But lately, it feels like that foundation is cracking, and instead of people trying to fix it, everyone is just bracing for the inevitable collapse. It’s weird to think about, but maybe we’re so obsessed with clinging to the way things *used* to work that we aren't actually prepared for what happens when power starts shifting into different hands. If the old way of doing things is fundamentally broken, are we actually capable of building something new, or are we just going to end up with a much messier, fragmented version of reality?
Do you think a world with multiple major power centers would actually be more stable, or is a single dominant leader the only thing preventing total messiness?
