I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we judge players who seem to have all the "eye test" magic but just can't seem to put up the actual numbers. It's easy to get caught up in how much a player looks like a superstar when they're dribbling or moving through lanes, but at the end of the day, if the output isn't there, are they actually helping the team?
It gets even more complicated when those massive offers start rolling in from abroad. I feel like we often label players as "mercenaries" if they show interest in a big payday, but sometimes it feels like the club overvalued them to begin with. We see these situations every season where a fan base is torn between wanting to keep a "flair" player or just taking the cash and moving on to someone more consistent.
