Quick question—has anyone here actually ordered bras from BonPrix before?
I’m looking at those cotton ones, the three-pack deal for $50, but I’m honestly a bit lost when it comes to sizing—not quite sure which one would actually fit me right.🤷
It looks that way in the photo because she’s tall—but on me, they hit right at the navel.😁 They cover the hips, too.😍 They don't hug my curves quite like they do hers.
The only real issue is the color bleeding. At first—even just from running my hands over them—my palms were stained blue.😲 After a few washes, though, things have settled down significantly.
If anyone else is thinking of picking these up, just be prepared for that initial shock—it definitely caught me off guard.
Otherwise, they're actually fantastic. They haven't stretched out at all from wearing or washing; after several months, they still look as good as the day I bought them.😁
Look, let me tell you something... I picked up these jeans from the Curve line—and honestly, they fit like they were custom-tailored just for me. 😁 I followed their size chart to the letter. 😉
nimbleheron47 said:They're waterproof—though the lady at the shop mentioned it’d be a good idea to take them to a cobbler to get them treated with something. She didn't specify exactly what, but any pro will know the drill; it's mostly because since they're brushed leather, you don't want them scuffing up too fast.
nimbleheron47 said:I know there are some seasoned pros here who could weigh in on this.
At Rose's, they’ve still got these similar ones left—basically just the plainest versions without any extra bells and whistles, if you know what I mean; just the most classic styles possible. They're labeled #41, though honestly, they're more like #42, maybe around $117. Personally, I'm looking for the larger sizes. 😢 There are pink ones in the 40 and 41 range (which is really more like 41 and 42), but pink just isn't my vibe. I think there might be some white ones left, too. So yeah, everything in the larger numbers.
What kind of coin are we talking about here? And are they waterproof?
copperfox172 said:Ladies, I need a hand... looking for a winter jacket that doesn't look like something my grandma would wear. Just a casual parka. Someone mentioned Marks &Spencers... but their styles aren't really my thing. Anyone seen anything like that in Chicago? Looking for a size 14/16 or XL.
You might want to check out Target, H&M, Old Navy, or even Walmart—it really just comes down to how much cash you’re looking to drop. I know for a fact those spots carry standard sizing since I was on the same hunt last year. In the end, I just grabbed a basic black one from Target—lightweight, functional, and I think it cost me about $67.
I am perfectly aware of my own body—which parts are critical and exactly what size pants, shirts, and everything else I need to buy.
A sales clerk’s job is to assist me without adding their unsolicited commentary. If I decide to walk out with two sizes smaller than what I actually wear—that is entirely my business. Her responsibility is simply to ring up the sale, bag the items, and wish me a pleasant day.
That comment about the watch was particularly moronic. What on earth were they trying to achieve by saying that? It isn't like they're selling a flock of expensive sheep.
Kimble, that’s awful. They treated me with that exact same attitude back when I was thin—just as dismissive. Around here, the retail staff are generally rude and completely checked out. Honestly, they should be paid strictly on commission—then we'd see just how much malice they could squeeze into a single sentence.
That is precisely why I never ask for help in stores. I navigate the aisles myself, put everything back where it belongs, and only flag someone down if I actually intend to try something on. That’s the extent of our interaction.
I usually go for those longer pencil skirts—back when I was 18, I stuck to the longer lengths too. I don't pay much attention to the "Curve" line, so I'm not even sure if they carry anything long in that specific range. But even then, most of what they call "midi" can actually be made a bit longer upon request—though honestly, even their "standard" lengths feel pretty long on me, at least the ones I own. As for the short skirts? I haven't seen a single one where they offer any extra length. And then they have the nerve to use models who are about 5'6"—on them, those skirts look tiny. If I tried wearing those, I’m pretty sure my underwear would be visible to everyone. 🤣 Honestly, their selection is just lacking—nothing even comes close to being knee-high. Well, my knee, anyway. 😁).
That’s really my only gripe with those British shops—they seem to cut everything for shorter women. For instance, Pepperberry There are some dresses that would look great on me—they’re even listed in their "Super Curvy" section specifically for us girls with bigger busts—but honestly, what's the point when their sizing is clearly designed for someone who's 5'5"? 😢I'm built like a mid-length skirt—everything is just too short for me. Even when I shop at places like Loft, the sleeves are always hitting too high and the pant legs are way too short. It’s basically a struggle everywhere I go. 😢Look, I don't mind their summer stuff too much—it’s alright—but I think I’ll struggle to find anything for my winter wardrobe there. ASOS actually hits the mark for me when it comes to midi skirts, trousers, or tees... they’re honestly pretty solid in that department. But those micro-minis? And the lack of actual skirt options? Not really my vibe. 👎
I'm about 5'5", and even for me, it all looks way too short. 😂 I didn't notice any variation in length within the Curve line either 🤷 , but when you see those dresses fluttering around on skinny models—and almost none of them reach the knee—it makes me realize how much better they'd look on me, considering I actually have curves compared to them 😕. 😂 And I won't even dwell on what happens when I actually sit down 😂—I'm certain everything would just ride up and expose far too much 😂.
I forgot to mention this yesterday... anyway, you mentioned your struggle with these vintage dresses where you have to size for your bust and worry they'll billow out too much around the hips. This specific dress I'm looking at doesn't even list hip measurements, so I suspect the hips aren't a major factor—it's meant to drape similarly on everyone. Usually, only the tight-fitting ones are a real concern regarding hip measurements 😉.
I was actually hunting for a dress for a wedding recently—narrowing my search down to just three options from ASOS—but none of them were quite 😍 . 😍 Instead, I found this one that is absolutely 😍 . Now, the real dilemma: how on earth do I explain to my husband that I genuinely need a new dress 🤔 ? Oh, and do you think they would still look decent without a petticoat?
Also, I completely agree with you—ASOS seems obsessed with short dresses. Even when they offer a "longer length" option, the selection is laughably slim. Honestly, I think 14 inches is the longest anything goes for 🙄 .
nimbleheron47 said:I’ve been wearing these dresses for a little while now—honestly, I think they were practically made for an hourglass figure. I first stumbled upon them on eBay, but it looks like they're available right here too: http://www.lindybop.co.uk/index.asp. So, for anyone out there who's into that vintage look. 😉
They go up to a US size 18.
Oh gosh, you really shouldn't have posted this 🙂 —honestly, you already picked out a few pieces, including that one specific dress you've been hunting for a long, long time. 😍
nimbleheron47 said:I actually saw them mentioned on an Australian forum 🤣 (I was Googling plus-size shops). It seems like a lot of women order from there.
Personally, though, I try to avoid anything outside the States—I really don't have the energy to deal with customs. Plus, shipping on that site starts at $15 even for tiny orders. Which means you're looking at $25 plus $53 whatever customs fees pop up. 😢 Basically, even if you stay under the duty limit (I forget the exact number, honestly), you still end up paying sales tax and processing fees, shipping, and those weird postal handling charges. Anyway, those fixed costs usually hit around $30 ($25 maybe, $3.25 for the customs paperwork, $1.75 then delivery—at least that's how I remember the breakdown from someone else's post on here recently).
It’s probably only worth it if you place a big order to bring the cost per item down. For just one or two things... it ends up being way too expensive.
Exactly—I stick to domestic or North American retailers myself; ordering from overseas is out of the question. I'm not interested in gambling with Customs. As for this specific shop, I'll pass—between the steep shipping and the potential duties, I'd likely end up paying more than the actual clothes were worth. 😁
Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there as an option in case someone else wants to take the leap. 🤷
It’s an American brand—sizes run from 14 to 36, and they actually have a decent variety. From what I can gather, they ship globally—which is a relief, given how much of a hassle finding specific fits can be.😁
Has anyone here actually ordered from them before? Any experiences to share?
nimbleheron47 said:Go for the ones with spandex first—that way you won't have to deal with returns if they're a tight fit. Honestly though, with your waistline, everything should probably be fine. 😉
Btw, I just ordered some belts from ASOS. It says the UK 22-24 size fits up to a 34-inch waist. 😲 That seems a little off to me—I can't really picture women wearing a UK 24 having only a 34-inch waist. Usually, a UK 24 has about 53-inch hips. Who actually has a 20-inch difference between their waist and hips?! 😲
Oh well, we'll see when they arrive. Given how hit-or-miss their sizing can be, maybe I'll end up using the belt twice just to get it to stay on. 🤣
I was looking over the strap dimensions myself—and honestly, those measurements just don't sit right with me. They feel incredibly off. 🤷
nimbleheron47 said:Sorry if I'm laughing, but 🤣. That was actually my very first order from them back in... hm, more than 10 (?) years ago. Only thing was, everything felt way too big for me at the time.
Eventually, I got the hang of their site and figured out how to order—I used to buy from them quite a bit for a while there. My sister and I would just sit down with some coffee and flip through every single page of those massive catalogs. 😍 Man, we were such kids back then. *pure nostalgia*
Anyway, I still have some of their stuff from ages ago and it’s all in great shape—honestly, I'm still super impressed with the quality. But I haven't ordered in forever, maybe since 2005 or 2006... I can't even remember. And now I've totally forgotten how their sizing works 🤷, especially since all the labels have faded away long ago.
I think these coats are their size 48, which would be our 46. I remember they fit perfectly when I first got them, but now they're getting a little tight around the chest—still wearable, though. Still, I can't be 100% sure; it's been way too long. 😢
Btw, back in 2003, I got a bra from them (well, my boyfriend at the time bought it because I wouldn't stop drooling over the website, and the bra was insanely expensive) and it's still going strong! 😲 It's probably the one I wear most out of anything I own. Most other bras end up in the trash, but this one? It just survives. 😬 🤣
It really is funny 😂 when I finally got the package and opened it, my expression was basically 😕 🤣
I checked just now, and the pants are a 46 🙄 Looking at my current wardrobe, I calculate I actually need a 50 now ☕
But honestly, what bothered me most was the shipping delay—I think it took about three weeks, maybe even a full month 🙂
I wanted to ask you... how does ASOS sizing work? Does it actually align with the size chart, or do things run a bit larger?
Last year, I decided to try my luck with an order from Laredoute. 😁
I picked out a pair of jeans, a skirt, and a trench coat—all ordered in the exact same size.
The jeans? A complete disaster. Even with the added stretch, I couldn't even get them past my hips. They’ve been sitting in my closet ever since—not worn a single time. ☕
Then there was the skirt. It’s far too long—literally dragging on the ground behind me—and despite having an elastic waistband, it isn't "adjustable" in any meaningful sense; it just squeezes you relentlessly. I wore it once, and honestly, I had to style it as a dress because I wasn't about to spend my afternoon sweeping the sidewalk while walking. 🤷 🤣
As for the trench coat, it is so absurdly oversized that I could comfortably fit two of myself inside it and still have room to spare. 😂
To reiterate—just for clarity—every single item was ordered in the same size. ☕
I haven't bought anything from them since, though I find myself browsing their site constantly—mostly because I have no idea which size would actually work. 🤷
