Now that I'm putting my equations inside tables (thinking 1x1), I can't insert a cross-reference on that same line—it just forces me into the next one.
Anyone got a workaround for this?

You could try making a 1x2 table. If the number starts drifting outside the cell, just shove it into the right-hand column.

Best bet is putting your Equation inside a table.
Go to insert New label and make a new group—call it something like "My Equations."
In Word 2007 => References => Insert Caption => check the box for Exclude label from Caption so the text part gets ignored.
Now you've just got the number without the "My Equations" label. Do that for all your equations.
When you want to drop an Equation number into your text, just hit Insert => Cross-reference => and under Reference type pick "My Equations" to see all the numbers in that group. For "Insert reference," grab Entire Caption.
Just make sure you click the specific number you're linking to.

Kate Foster12 said:Thanks, but that’s still not what I'm looking for. Those tutorials don't cover what I need, and you totally missed the point—the arrow should be above the number, not off to the side.

So I read this bit
under that shared arrow
Just do it with an up arrow and a down arrow

From that, I figured everything just stacks vertically.

The tutorial covers the basics; it was up to you to dig out the specific setting to get the result. Here's a screenshot

Just click the input field and type the number. Then move over and pick the arrow from the Basic Math menu.

Here's the file

hope that clears things up for you 😉

Just check out some tutorials

Why don't you put in some actual work yourself? Look before you go calling me "cheap"

Get creative. Don't just stare at the screen waiting for magic—use your head. Google is your friend. 😉

There you go. Grab the file HERE
brightcyclist2 said:He wants it. Anytime. Show both the formula and the result in the F-15.

You could just run a VBA Macro that automatically dumps formulas into comments right after you type them. Then, you can just hit a 'show / Hide All Comments' button to toggle everything at once. Super quick.

- Wanna automatically pop the formula into a cell comment for every single cell? Just a heads up—doing this manually is a total grind. You're gonna want a VBA Macro to handle the heavy lifting if you don't want to lose your mind.

It really just boils down to toggling the formulas via the Excel settings or using a quick shortcut. Ctrl+Q either/or Ctrl+' Mine aren't working, unfortunately.

Larry Booth said:I need the formula to show up in the F15 cell, but I want it to actually display the result from a division calculation

You could just handle this by putting a working formula directly in the cell itself.

- Or just drop a comment over the cell so it pops up when you hover
- Or use a Validation message so the prompt shows up whenever the cell is selected.

Dennis Jackson27 said:Sry Kyle Johnson2, .......Didn't realize you were dealing with this too :S

I don't personally have an issue,
but someone else might. If we're talking about it, we might as well find a fix.

Try fixing the issue using this tutorial

Dennis Jackson27 said:Thanks everyone for the help, but I don't need it anymore—found myself one killer converter...

Shame on you.
People actually take the time to help you out here, then you just solve your problem with some "killer converter" and don't even mention which one? You're leaving everyone else who might run into the same issue hanging. Seriously, have some decency 😉
William Gonzalez44 said:But now it’s splitting my first column into two rows. Now I'm stuck manually resizing all the columns...

Just widen those columns in Excel before you try copying. Make them way wider than you actually need them to be.
Rebecca Phillips57 said:Look, if you've got names in Column A and then just a bunch of identical values generated by formulas in Column B... yeah, there's nothing to sort. If the content in those cells is exactly the same, sorting isn't gonna do anything. Period.

That’s why you gotta highlight the cells you're pulling data from before you hit sort—that "select table" thing isn't just for show... .............................................

EDIT: Here’s another way to handle this—it's basically just a workaround if you want to do it manually. Just do a copy + Paste Special and only paste the values. You’ll end up with regular numbers, but yeah, you lose all that automation. 😉

You speak well. 😉

When it comes to automation, we’re basically just walking through the steps manually. Selecting and sorting? It’s all the same. Copying, hitting a new Sheet, then using Paste Special > Values onto that new Sheet gets you the exact same result.

Thanks. 🙂

Give it a shot. GIMP For Win detail

If you were talking about image edits like the one shown below

You can knock that out in MS Paint, GIMP, PaintShop Pro, Photoshop, etc...

Robin Hernandez said:One more thing: Can I add buttons that just bump up whatever value is in a cell by +1? Like, if the number is 5, I hit the button and it jumps to 6?

Alright, let's say your number is sitting in A1. Right-click the Sheet tab at the bottom and hit
View Code. Just paste this Macro right here:
Code:
Sub plus()
Application.EnableCancelKey = xlDisabled
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Range("A1") = Range("A1").Value + 1
End Sub

Head back to the Sheet. Drop a button next to your cell. Then Assign Macro
to it using the code you just pasted.
If you need to hit multiple cells on one sheet, do this:
Code:
Sub plus()
Application.EnableCancelKey = xlDisabled
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Sheet2.Range("A1") = Sheet2.Range("A1").Value + 1
Sheet2.Range("A2") = Sheet2.Range("A2").Value + 1
Sheet2.Range("A3") = Sheet2.Range("A3").Value + 1
Sheet2.Range("A4") = Sheet2.Range("A4").Value + 1
Sheet2.Range("A5") = Sheet2.Range("A5").Value + 1
Sheet2.Range("A6") = Sheet2.Range("A6").Value + 1
End Sub
