is it really that bad?

Well, if you ask me, absolutely! I've loved so many of his films in the past, but this one was just such a massive letdown. 😢 I kept waiting for it to finally show up—thinking, "Okay, here comes a decent movie to break up all this Hollywood junk they're churning out lately"—but in the end... 😢

Honestly, I just don't get it. How can people on this forum—or anyone, really—not realize that posts like these are completely pointless? Is it seriously that much of an effort to just write one single, expanded sentence about the movie? Even if you absolutely hated it, just say so! Give us some actual substance! 🤷

I’m not even going to bother commenting on why the first part works so well. As for the second half? It’s just dragged out, occasionally pathetic, and honestly pretty boring—it feels more like an action flick made for elementary school kids. Personally, I didn't care for it one bit, and hey, nobody has to agree with me! But the real tragedy here is when studios try to chase old glory through sequels. These kinds of experiments usually end up being a total fiasco, and in my opinion, that’s exactly what happened here.

The first one is absolutely fantastic, but that second one? It’s an absolute disaster.
So, let me tell you about *The English Patient*... it’s such a dear film to me. Honestly, I blame Ralph Fiennes for everything. He’s just too handsome, and I simply cannot bear to watch him die. Forgive me, I'm a woman! 🙂 Personally, I think *RocknRolla* is an absolute masterpiece, even compared to some of those "must-have" movies people here always suggest for their home video collections. Let's be real, right?

And yeah, I’m actually pretty embarrassed because I didn't include Babel on my list. That was a total rookie mistake on my part. You can't really talk about great cinema without it. Forget it, man...

They aren't even in order, and five is way too few:

Apocalypse Now (it's an absolute essential)
The Big Blue (go see it, my love)
Mulholland Drive (Lynch is just brilliantly twisted)
A Clockwork Orange (you can't skip this one)
Gran Torino (what else is there to say?)

The Godfather (the only one I truly respect)
Dr. Strangelove (phenomenal)
Three Colors (Blue, White, Red)
Amarcord (only Italians could pull off something like that)
Apocalypto (if you can forget Mel Gibson directed it)

Dracula (Polanski created the best atmosphere for that genre, hands down)
Sunset Blvd (real, pure noir)
The English Patient (for when you just need a good cry)
Cabaret (speechless)
Annie Hall (classic Woody Allen)
Casablanca (a total masterpiece)

Star Wars (the original trilogy)
Lotr
Suspiria
(now THAT is atmosphere)

And also: Snatch and RocknRolla (Guy Ritchie is simply outstanding)
