Aragorn said:I remember using Visio back in high school for drawing electrical diagrams and stuff like that, but once I hit college, I started using AutoCAD and just stuck with it since it’s way more common in my field.
In my opinion, while Visio might feel a bit simpler for electrical projects, AutoCAD is a much more complete package; if you take the time to build out a solid library of blocks for things like single-line diagrams, distribution layouts, or feeder lines, it absolutely blows Visio out of the water.
That said, choosing which software your company uses is really a matter of corporate policy rather than my personal preference.
Best,
Yeah, it really does come down to company policy... my firm already has Visio licensed, though they’d probably pull the trigger on AutoCAD if there was a genuine need for it—you know, when we "actually" require it. If Visio covers our needs for quick, efficient drafting, then that's what we'll stick with. I guess I just wanted to be sure, mostly for my own peace of mind, whether Visio is truly up to par for electrical engineering work. I used AutoCAD all through college and in every single job I've had since, and honestly, I love it because being able to customize your own block libraries and layers makes everything so smooth. But hey, at the end of the day, you just have to adapt to whatever tools you're given if you want to survive, right? Anyway, thanks so much to everyone who shared such smart advice and perspectives!
Ugh... man, you’re really going at this, aren't you? You clearly have no clue why I'm even dragging this massive debate out across this huge forum in the first place... the whole deal is that my company doesn't actually OWN AutoCAD yet!!!! So, there's a chance my boss MIGHT finally pull the trigger and buy it, but then you've got this guy over here rooting for some basic Vision setup just because it's what he's used to—he's basically been riding the same old donkey since he started and plans to ride it all the way to retirement. Anyway, that's exactly why I'm reaching out to all my well-meaning colleagues, both the helpful ones and those who just "get it," to see what you all think about this thread... which program is TRULY better for designing electrical installations? Give it to me straight, if you can...
Hey there, fellow pros, I’d love to get your honest take on how you use these two programs mentioned in my title—AutoCAD & Vision—specifically when it comes to electrical schematics, equipment layouts (like floor plans), or even drawing up exterior views for electrical enclosures and stuff like that. Honestly, I’ve been a die-hard AutoCAD user for as long as I can remember, but right now I’m stuck in this massive, ongoing debate with my current colleague. He’s dead set on the idea that Vision is absolutely the greatest thing ever for our specific electrical niche, and he keeps insisting that AutoCAD is really just meant for mechanical engineers and architects, claiming that for us electrical folks, Vision is more than enough! 😕 ...so maybe I'm wrong, 🙄 ...but I just find working in it to be so incredibly clunky 😠 and it feels like everything takes me ten times longer to finish compared to when I'm using my beloved AutoCAD...
What do you all think? Am I just being slow and awkward with the software, or is Vision actually a total success?
Does anyone happen to know of any local organic food producers out in Cleveland?
Thanks so much for all the help, everyone!
Any questions?👋
How long would I actually need to cook that chili recipe in an Instant Pot? I’m mostly just worried about overdoing it—you know, keeping it quick enough so all those "healthy" ingredients don't just turn into mush while they're sitting in there.😕
Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a dentist you guys actually trust—someone who won't rip me off or do unnecessary work, please!
Thanks!🙂
Oops! Simonić🙂 ....just a little typo there
Could anyone point me toward Dr. Simonić's office? I'm trying to track down his exact address because, honestly, I am on a desperate hunt for a truly great dentist right now.
Thnx in advance!🙂
