What’s actually the difference between an IPS panel and this VA one? When I picked it up, the guy told me this AOC monitor was pretty solid for gaming and everything else I need to do, especially with my setup being this

I get that having 144Hz makes those crappy online shooters feel smoother, but I guess I just don't really get the distinction between IPS and VA, maybe 🤷

I guess I feel the same way about it not being worth it. It seems like everywhere you go, people just tell you to buy a new TV because you get that manufacturer warranty. Plus, I was looking at a similar model from two years ago, and it looks like it cost almost the same as it does today. Is it actually possible that prices haven't really dropped at all? Hey everyone, how's it going?

So, I'm looking for some advice on what my next move should be here. 😁

Basically, my kids managed to mess up my current AOC C24G1 monitor. They didn't totally smash it, but they definitely started causing damage, and now I'm stuck wondering what my options actually look like and how much everything might cost.

I'm wondering if it's even worth trying to fix it. I was thinking about taking it to a local repair shop, maybe one over in Chicago, but honestly, after hearing so many horror stories lately about service quality, I’m kind of hesitant to even bring it in there...

If a repair isn't worth the money, should I just grab a new one that's identical to this? It seems like it would be $33 cheaper than what I paid for it just two years ago. Or maybe there's something better out there right now within a similar $533 price range? I noticed Best Buy offers some discounts if you pay cash. 🤷

If I need to put together a new build, I think there's a thread somewhere from when you guys helped me spec out my PC two years ago. I'll try to dig that up and list my current tower specs. Luckily, the PC itself is still running great and hasn't been touched by the kids! 😁

I'm not even totally sure anymore, but I guess my laptop is less than five years old. I'm guessing based on when I moved over to Windows 10 since it runs great, kind of how I figured out when I switched from Windows XP 😁

I mean, I don't think those drivers are really the main issue, since my phone won't even show up when I try to connect via Bluetooth. But what am I supposed to do when you go to the Dell website and see like 14 different Bluetooth drivers? I'm no genius, so I have no idea which ones to wipe out before reinstalling everything. 🤷

Jack Cook7, regarding those NX drivers—it’s basically just some little utility meant to find devices, whether it's a Genius keyboard or a mouse, but nothing. It's just a total wasteland in there; nothing is actually working. 😵

here is what pops up when I click that Intel link. I was honestly thinking about just wiping the whole drive and doing a fresh install of Windows 10, especially since I've got this SSD I want to swap into the laptop's DVD slot to hopefully get things running. It’s just super frustrating when you can't get something this simple to install.

I don't really have anyone I can borrow one from, so I guess my only real option is to just go out and buy one myself. For $20, I saw there was one available, so maybe I'll just give that a shot 🤷

Hey there! So, I just got this Genius NX-9000BT Bluetooth mouse as a gift, but I’m having a bit of a hard time getting it to pair with my laptop. It's a Dell XPS 13 running Windows 7...

Basically, whenever I try to "add device," this is what happens, and nothing moves at all. The window just sits there like this for hours ...

When I check the Device Manager, it looks like this. If I try to remove those items with the exclamation marks—you know, uninstalling them—it seems to change to this, but then it pretty much reverts right back to this and I end up right back where I started 🙄

Anyway, I've been messing around with this for about two hours now and haven't made any progress, so yeah. If anyone happens to know what might be going on, or if you have any suggestions or maybe a specific program I should use to install the drivers, I'd really appreciate the help 😁

Powerline doesn't actually transmit a wireless signal, unless you happen to get a specific model that has a built-in Access Point.

Basically, Powerline sends an Ethernet signal through your walls, so it's meant to let you connect your desktop PC to the router via an Ethernet cable through the house.
Maybe you could plug an Access Point into the Powerline unit on the other side of the house (using an Ethernet cable), and then you'd have wireless coverage there.

So, I guess you can think of Powerline as an Ethernet extender through the walls. It doesn't really have anything to do with wireless, which is actually its main advantage—it doesn't matter how thick your walls are or what kind of Wi-Fi your PC supports. As long as your electrical wiring is decent, the connection should work, and it’s almost like being plugged directly into the router.

Oh, right, I guess I meant the signal itself rather than wireless. I might be phrasing this poorly, but I'd be connecting it with a wire, so it would be more stable. That's really all that matters to me. 😁

I think they have those Powerline kits without the extra plug part, and they seem a little cheaper $27 if I saw correctly at Target yesterday. I'll probably pick some up in the next few days and write back with my thoughts. I'm just hoping it works okay. My main goal isn't necessarily having great Wi-Fi like you guys have; I just want a stable connection for my computer, that's about it. Anyway, thanks again everyone! 👍 🙏

Regarding that link I posted above—it actually has an outlet built in. Does that mean I have to plug the router into that specific outlet, or does it not really matter? Also, could I just plug a power strip into it to run my desktop PC, monitor, and all my peripherals?

And I was wondering, would that outlet carry both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals? I'm thinking if I can connect via a hardwired connection, it might be way more stable than what I'm dealing with right now.🤷

To be honest, I haven't even really looked at it yet. I mean, what kind of Ethernet port does my motherboard actually have? If it has one, then yeah, maybe that works, though I'm not totally sure how Powerline is supposed to function. I guess you just plug it into the wall, then connect the router to it, and then on the other side, you plug it back into the wall and run a cable straight to the desktop PC 🤷

In my house, the 5G signal is definitely stronger than the 3G, and it's faster too. The kids have those newer phones, so they can pick up the Wi-Fi in that room without any issues, whereas that old laptop struggles with 3G and doesn't even recognize the 5G 🤷

Just wanted to check in and say the PC is running great now. It handles everything without any issues and the kids are really happy with it. The monitor is perfect too—just the right size, not too big and not too small. I haven't messed around with it too much yet; I just installed Windows 10, the all-in-one ASUS Prime B350M-A drivers, and the GPU drivers. I guess I'm not sure if that covers everything or if there’s more I should tweak, so if there's anything else, I'm listening to 😁

So, we didn't install a DVD ROM, but my boy actually got GTA V as a gift on 5 CDs 🤣. I was thinking about getting an external optical drive, but there are like a million different ones out there priced around $67. I guess I'm wondering if there's anything specific I should look for or if they're all basically the same thing 🤷 😁

And the second thing—we talked before about how to get this PC on the Wi-Fi, and it was suggested that this might work. I picked it up and paired it with this, but man, the connection keeps dropping. It's pretty unstable. It doesn't happen constantly, but let's just say from Christmas until now, I've had to reset it two or three times because the signal just died. And it's not like I'm always home, and honestly, why would I be if I don't need to be using the radio all the time? 🙄

Anyway, I actually got a new router from AT&T because of that weak signal, and it has both 2.4G and 5G networks. My setup above can't seem to pick up the 5G one, though. So I was wondering, what should I buy for that? Would this solve my problem? Basically, I need something that can catch that 5G connection and stay stable. If this adapter/dongle fixes it, I'll buy it right away, but if not, what would work 🤷

Hey everyone, hey hey! I haven't actually picked up my computer yet—I was waiting on my paycheck, but now that it's finally here, I'm super excited to finally get this done...

So, since we were all putting things together earlier, you know, back when you guys were helping me, that MS Shadow case we talked about ended up being unavailable. So, I could really use some recommendations. I’m thinking about grabbing everything from Micro Center, but I also need a suggestion for a network card because the one I grabbed during that sale didn't actually show up in the shipment 😁

There are also a few little things I'm curious about, so if anyone is feeling generous enough to explain them to me...

For example, the power supply is only 550W, but I see there are ones that go up to 600W or even higher. Is 550W enough, and what are those stronger ones actually used for?

Also, I noticed the graphics card mentions DDR5, but we put together DDR4 memory here. Why wouldn't we use DDR5 instead? What's the actual difference? 🤷

And regarding the monitor, the recommendation was this 24-inch AOC, but what would you suggest if I wanted a 27-inch or maybe something even larger?
