I don't really see it that way at all. Look, nobody ever promised us a life of nonstop pleasure, but then again, you also have those rare people who seem to attract one tragedy after another without any breathing room. Even those folks going through it have their good moments, provided they actually know how to recognize them when they happen.

In my opinion, the hardest people to watch are the ones who spend their entire lives looking sideways with envy. They’re always fixated on everyone else who seems to have more, lives more exciting lives, travels the world constantly, or lives in much more organized countries than ours...

That was honestly a beautiful way to put it. But here's the thing: "misery" is such a relative concept, isn't it? Sure, most people here would probably agree on what constitutes objective hardship, but if you ask me, it’s all about perception. I know plenty of people whose lives look perfect on paper—everything is running smooth as silk—yet they’re constantly miserable. Why? Because they’re either busy comparing themselves to others and feeling like they're missing out, or they'll find some dark omen in even the things most people would call pure luck.

To be more specific, you basically start out on the right path. It’s like when you’re cruising down the I-95, everything is smooth, and then suddenly you take a wrong turn, end up lost on some winding backroads in rural Georgia, and just spend the next hour trying to find a way back onto the interstate. The whole point is getting back on that highway.

Well, looking at my life right now... let's just say I'm definitely stuck on one of those side roads 🙂 but I'm pretty damn sure I'll find my way back to the main highway eventually. 🙂

If we want to get all deep and philosophical about it—and I know, I know, here I go again—you could argue that this detour is technically part of the journey too. And yeah, I guess that's true, but honestly? It would have been a lot better if I'd just stayed on the interstate the whole time instead of exiting early and wasting all this time driving in circles. Wouldn't it? :-)

Personally, I think the highway can be a total trap. You just end up swept up in this mindless rush, racing against the clock like everyone else.
I actually prefer the scenic routes and the detours; you actually see things and experience life out there. But the interstate? It’s nothing but gray asphalt and mindless rushing.
That "fastest route" we always chase might actually rob us of the whole point of traveling. We spend the whole time staring at some imaginary finish line, desperate to get there, only to arrive and realize it looks exactly like where we started.
It all comes down to what actually makes life worth living. If we stop feeling truly alive—if we just hand over the steering wheel to everyone else and let them make our choices—well, then we’re basically walking ghosts. When every single move you make is dictated by what some stranger might think or whether there’s a quick buck in it, you aren't really living anymore. You’re just existing, and at that point, you've lost the plot entirely.
As long as you're actually *living*, you can't really take a wrong turn, because the journey itself is the whole point. But if you choose to just "exist" instead? Then you aren't even moving. You're just standing still in the middle of nowhere.
